2014-2015 The Commonwealth Medical College Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I've noticed that same pattern. Last year they gave out deferrals the second Wednesday of December, followed by acceptances the next Wednesday. I was actually sort of relieved to not have heard back yesterday for that reason.

I think this pattern occurs because TCMC takes the time to write out individual acceptance letters which include the specific reasons they want you, so it takes them a while to write them. (I read my friend's from last year)

Yes, my letter this year had reasons in them. It was a very nice touch.

Also, if it helps, a friend of mine interviewed a couple of weeks before me. She didn't hear back when a lot of people on her date heard. However, the next month, she got accepted the same day I did. So, I don't think it means anything if you didn't hear back right away.

Lol I interviewed end of October, haven't heard anything, I can wait longer hehehe

So I've noticed a pattern here. Deferrals come out the week before acceptances (on a Wednesday). I got deferred on Wed, Nov 12, acceptances came out on Wed, Nov 19. Again this time around, deferrals on Wed, Dec, 10, acceptances on Wed, Dec 17??

No stress or anything😉

Patience. Staying expectant.
I hope there is still a chance for the deferred group. Does they only meet once a month? Should deferred people find out in Jan. then?

that would just be awful. let me not think that until at least after next week lol

I was the dummy who turned down an offer for an October cancelation over the phone so I would be more "prepared."
Interviews ended up being more relaxed than I could have ever anticipated.
Serves me right. Hope I'm wrong though.

we're in the same boat lol. I had the option to pick earlier when I scheduled, and I turned down an earlier one when it was offered. double mistake

I'm guessing I got rejected because I interviewed on 10/29 and still haven't heard anything back. :'( 🙁

What's the deal if you applied in july but still haven't heard anything?

I called and they told me that once they look at your app, they either decide then to interview or not. There's no "maybe" pile. Were they lying to me?

Just be patient, plenty of people have been rejected pre-II who submitted after you. You are still in it at this school as long as you haven't been rejected!

Thank you for your response. I am just confused that's all. I am gathering that there is a "maybe" pile but I was told there wasn't. A more truthful answer from the school would have been appreciated - I am thankful I haven't been rejected however, but hope is very little.

There is no maybe pile. There really are just that many applications to read. There are a total of like 3 ppl that read all of those applications and read them carefully (in addition to their other full time responsibilities -- one of which includes being the Dean of Students). Give it time (I know easier said than done) but we don't do silent rejections.

Well if you get looked over for a possible interview at a later date, isn't that a maybe? OP submitted sometime in July.

Congrats to everyone who has been accepted! I interviewed in early November. I was seriously stalking my email yesterday lol. No word yet...

Snail mail rejection today (interviewed late October). Has anyone successfully received post-interview feedback from TCMC? I know most schools tell you to talk to your school's advising office, but I've already done that and we're stumped. Bad feels all around 🙁

Congrats to everyone who's gotten in though. It seemed like a really great school.

I'm really sorry to hear that 🙁 But can you please answer two questions for me? 1. Did your status change on their portal? 2. What date in October did you interview?

Once a file is read - they make a decision on it to interview or not. If you're granted an interview - there's an online calendar where available dates appear and it's really your choice. So it's not as if we wait to give you an interview invite based on the quality of applicants we read later.

There's really no reason for us to have a "maybe pile" when we defer candidates post-interview as well as wait-list at the end of the process. There's a lot of maybe's post-interviewing.

Regardless - the point of my original post is, this is a tough process and you look for the silver linings where you can. As a current medical student and one that works closely with admissions - I'm saying there's still hope for an interview. Take it for what it is which is an informed opinion.

so it seems like you get a laptop upon matriculation here? just curious, what kind of laptop is it?

Also, the tcmc website says interviews are usually Monday and fridays, and some saturdays, but mine's on a Weds? is there anything special about that?

A dell latitude e7440. It was in the interview packet on a technology form. Not too excited about it, but whatever.

On my interview day I a saw quite a few people with macs so I guess we won't have to use something that will gave us the bluescreen of death every month or so...
