2014-2015 The Commonwealth Medical College Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
+1 As others have said don't worry about your stats. Interviewers don't have access to any of them anyway at TCMC. Concentrate on the area, the flipped classroom second year, and LIC in third year.
However, It's a small school so even though it's relaxed still be conscientious the rest of the day (intro speech, introducing yourself, interviews, and exit interview) some of these may include the Dean of admissions as in my case).

was the exit debriefing thing an interview?

No, it was more of a how was your day, anything that could be improved, and chit chat. Mine was with the Dean though, so I thought it was better to still be professional. If it will have any effect on me as an applicant I have no clue.

Awesome! Thank you very much for your input!

Agree with the stat comment, they think you are a good fit at this point, now you have to confirm it. The interview is very traditional and there is no waiting around, so you wont have the opportunity to psych yourself out. Just focus on what you can control. For me I wrote down things from my past that line up with opportunities available at each school. Additionally I wrote down how this would lead me to my career goals and how the school could help me. You have until February so stay calm mate.

ex. Volunteered at western Philadelphia in low income areas...the school offers similar opportunities through their mandatory service requirement and focus on rural volunteering....i want to be an important member of my future community by serving rural areas.

Of course make sure it matches with your story

Does a Facebook page exist for the class of 2019 besides the one that was included in the acceptance email?

Thank you all very much, this is very helpful! I wish you all the best.

Has anyone who has been deferred in October receive a final decision as yet?

I

I didn't see one when I looked. If you want to make one, then post the link, I'm sure a lot of people would be grateful, including myself. If not, I could do it!

Do it!!! (The thought of making the group myself terrifies me for some reason.)

Well, I made an honorable attempt to make a group (something I have never done before), but to no avail. I guess I need at least one friend on Facebook to add to the group prior to actually making the group. So, if anyone is interested in being my friend so I can get this group started, send me a link to your profile and I will add you!

if I interviewed in early November, is there any chance of hearing back before Christmas? I'd assume not since it looks like most took much longer, but just wondering if anyone has any idea lol

Might want to ask a medical school student that interviewed around that time.

My guess is you'll hear after christmas because in general everything business related is slower after thanksgiving til new years. Admissions is probably closed for a little bit and during the holiday season.

yeah that was my thinking also. I thought I remembered seeing a lot of November interview date acceptances going out around mid December on last years thread, I won't be expecting it though. thanks!

isnt it a little early to make the class of 2019 group, most people haven't decided on their school yet, seems silly...wait til after 2nd look at least.

Well, my friend, others have asked for one, which implies a need. Snarky comments aren't necessary at this point. Some have already decided where they will be going to school and would like a means to communicate with and interact with their future peers.

People can join and leave Facebook groups as they please. Why does it matter to you when the group is made?

I didn't mean to be snarky, if that is the tone I set I am really sorry. Since most of us have not met in person, I am pretty sure multiple groups are going to be made and you guys will better appreciate each other once you have met. I mean in undergrad my university had the problem of multiple groups and people really didn't use it until they started to move-in/looking for place or they just arrived on campus. It also seems a bit rude to have a group for accepted students only before everyone has heard back and you know approx. who is going where. That is my main beef with this. At least after second looks, everyone who has been accepted has the chance of going here, as of right now people have yet to finish interviewing and are still worried about getting an acceptance.

I think this is just a situation of fundamental disagreement. All is good, my friend. If you decide you are going to TCMC, feel free to join the group and we will welcome you with open arms. If not, I wish you the best of luck wherever you end up.

Yeah I think I am just a bitter old person that doesn't like facebook. I did get an acceptance, just waiting to hear back from all schools before I decide.

Received an II here last week! I'm dropping my spot so I hope it goes to one of you still waiting! Best of luck!

Has anyone who interviewed in the first week of November heard back yet?

Also on a similar note someone who interviewed during the last week of October, heard anything back yet?

Yep, interviewed 10/27 and heard back last week. It was a really quick turn around.

Yes! I saw that but it seems like you are the only one who heard something back. Other people who heard back were interviewed on 10/18.

Still keeping my fingers crossed though.

II! Pretty stoked. There weren't any spots until March so seemed to just squeeze in.

Congratulations! Great feeling indeed. I couldn't find anything until February, but I'm blessed to have made it this far.

With interviews taking place so late, I feel like those of us without II's are pretty much rejected at this point 🙁

Hey, chin up. I thought I was out of the race and was pleasantly surprised to learn otherwise. Best of luck to everyone.

Anybody who was previously deferred this cycle hear any news?

Does anyone know how to cancel an interview at TCMC? There doesn't seem to be a button on the portal like some other schools...I have an interview here scheduled for 1/24, but I'd like to cancel it. Hopefully someone else can get my interview spot!

I think you would have to email admissions but I don't know for sure...
