2014-2015 University of California - San Francisco Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm with you on this one. I just received the secondary 30 minutes ago... will fill out, hope for the best and expect the worst. Lol. But good luck to us both!

I just got my secondary yesterday. Completely in shock. I for sure thought they had just silent rejected me. Maybe they found themselves with some extra interview spots? They only interview through February, though. So... I'm intrigued.

People are still receiving secondaries? Wow!

I've been complete for almost 3 months and still haven't heard back - hope they don't take that long for you!

I had been complete since August! I was sure it wasn't going to happen.

Does a rejection email from UCSF medical school mean a rejection from the JMP program as well (assuming we applied for that program as well)?

I've searched the threads and others have asked - but it doesn't seem like there's a clear answer.

+1 rejection (surprise secondary received two or three weeks ago).

Question - Does this also take us out of the running for the JMP or will we receive a separate rejection for that?

Has somebody answered this question yet? Because according to the JMP website, "Interviews for the Joint Medical Program are separate from those for the traditional UCSF program and the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP)….The results of the interviews and deliberations of the JMP Admissions Panel are separate from those of the School of Medicine"

LOL. Congratulations! That is some very strange timing. It would be kind of sweet if you got in so you could tell your story. It might help people stay optimistic.

Congratulations to all of those who have been accepted!

I just received a interview invitation!! I AM ABSOLUTELY THRILLED (and kinda of nervous!).

As I understand UCSF uses a traditional interviewing format. I've only completed MMI style interviews. Any tips or insight for UCSF? How did you all enjoy interviewing with UCSF, was the vibe more relaxed or serious?

Thanks everyone!!

Congratulations!!!!! I am very excited for you. I absolutely loved my UCSF interview. It was so laid back, and my interviewers were super nice. I am not sure if this is what most other interviewees experienced. The interviewers will not know anything about you aside from your name, so if you want to prepare, I would say just know what aspects of your application you want to highlight. Don't worry if you don't cover everything in your application during the interview. Smile, be nice, and relax. 🙂 Good luck!

From what I have heard from other interviewees, you can get rejected from the MD program but still get accepted to the JMP program.

Wonderful! Thank you for your input!

Congratulations man! Do you mind sharing when you were complete? Secondary and all?

It is definitely bizarre timing. A huge part of me thought it must have been some kind of mistake, but I'm staying hopeful!

Almost 3 months since I completed the secondary - still no word. Is this typical? (Email when I submitted said allow 4 to 6 weeks)

Thanks for sharing. Last detail I forgot to ask. Are you OOS? I am and I feel like they may be taking more time with our apps compared to IS applicants.

Thanks!

Verified 8/3
Secondary request 12/16
Complete 12/18
Interview Invite 1/15

Rejected 1/16. Good luck to the rest of you who are still in the running. Maybe UCSF will like me for PGY 🙂

rejected today 1/21. also complete 12/4

does this rejection mean that we're out of running for all of ucsf's programs? MD/PRIME/JMP?

Complete on around 12/14 and still no word...could be good news or could be bad news! I assume they will send me something sooner rather than later since interviews are ending in a month.

I'm in the same boat. Someone who had his/her secondary complete on 12/18 got an II........so I wonder if UCSF is taking a second look before sending out rejection letters. Maybe now they're working on the apps completed in Nov..?

I'm not sure, but I'm being pessimistic and assuming my goose has been cooked! Congrats to all those accepted or receiving interviews!!

Thanks, ill let you know if I find some more info too. I heard ucsf is changing to 3rd year step 1 exams, I don't know if its happening our year or the next.
Quoting you from a while back...UCSF seems to be continually updating its Bridges curriculum page.

There is now a cool Curriculum Blueprint dated 12/30/14 that shows Step 1 after rotations. I think the calendar starts in 2016, implying that this won't go into effect for the next entering class. (It says "Click to Enlarage" [sic], but that doesn't seem to work so the writing is very hard to read.)

The new curriculum is not being fully implemented for the incoming class, from what I heard. Only parts of it are. I think much (most?) of it will still be the old curriculum.

Wo sounds really cool. I kinda wish we could have that curriculum. Ill try to find out what our curriculum will look like and update.

Rejected yesterday. Also complete 12/4 and OOS. Honestly I am so heart broken. There's nothing like receiving rejections back to back and then having your top choice join the convoy. Congrats to everyone else who got in though.

I was rejected waaay back in October, but I know how you feel. This part of the cycle stinks. Feels like I've gotten nothing but bad news lately. 🙁 Anyway, sending empathy and positive thoughts your way!

UCSF MD rejection last Friday...

BUT in the same email was a Joint Medical Program interview invite! My 1st choice program, so I'm ecstatic, though a little sad about the other door closing. LizzyM ~70, complete 8/13

Hi @jasi_behr, congratulations on your JMP interview! I was curious to know how the JMP interview day is structured, if you don't mind.I hear you won't have the chance to meet other applicants and other than that, I'm not sure what to expect. Thanks so much and best wishes!

I've been checking here and there, and wasn't able to find any concrete information. But, this is great and really helpful, so thank you! I am really happy that they aren't doing Step 1 after rotations for our incoming class. Personally, I want to focus on learning medicine during rotations versus worrying about Step 1. I'm actually interested to learn their reason behind changing the Step 1 to year 3.

Is it systems-based right now?
