I haven't heard anything since my early October interview :/

Edit: oh never mind, just checked my portal. Final pooled. No notification about it, though.

I interviewed in september and heard back just this weak.

Final pooled today, 1/15/15; interviewed on 11/21/14. OOS.

Jumped in the Final pool today, interviewed 01/07 (they were done with rolling admissions anyway by then )

Email saying final pooled today, IS interviewed 9/26. Is everyone who hasn't been accepted post interview put into the final pool or do they reject some of those interviewed? Just wondering what this whole final pool thing means

Does a new tab pop up for the final pool notification?

Have any current students heard any feedback about or participated in the summer "Introduction to Medical Education at Iowa" program?

Has anyone seen from previous years if the final pool decisions about accepted, rejected, or wait listed, do those tend to come out all at once and closer to the March 10th date or do they come throughout the mid February to March time frame?

I believe notifications were sent on 3/12 and 3/14 in past years.

Also, is the wait list based off of stats only or is it based off of a holistic review? Thanks.

I did not personally participate in IMEI, but those who did from my class seemed to really find it helpful for the transition to med school. Here is what I know of it:
Much of the first semester material is covered during the program, so it makes things less stressful when they are covered later. You get to meet a portion of your class before the craziness of orientation kicks in and adapt to living in Iowa City if it is new to you. Summer is great here because of the lack of undergrads. In addition, there is a stipend provided, so you essentially get paid to learn things for your own benefit. The downside of course is that med school begins a little earlier for you (but with a lighter load of course). So, if you don't have any super interesting plans for your summer and/or are worried about how you will adapt to the course load, it is a fantastic opportunity. If you can't bear the thought of starting school early, that's OK too! Most of the class starts in August and does fine.

Sounds like a great program. Hoping for an acceptance!

They told us on my interview day the following (mostly pertains to IS applicants):

-About 60 IS offers are given before final pool for about 100 spots
-About 200 acceptances (IS) are given in total and most will come from the final pool
-Not really sure how OOS works but they did say that they give ~100 offers for OOS before final pool for the 40 spots knowing that most will choose their in-state school
-So about 2/3 of acceptances seem to come from the final pool for IS if I wrote this all down correctly from the interview day

Their priority is OOS applicants before final pool happens so I wouldn't be too disheartened if you're IS and have been final pooled. It seems to be a good thing!
I have also been final pooled and interviewed on October 15th. Good luck everyone and don't forget to get those updates in! 😀

The additional info tab says you can update until the 26th, while the admissions committee decision tab and the email about the final pool says update by the 21st. Anyone know which is accurate? I plan to submit my final update tonight or tomorrow just in case, but wondering if anyone has asked about this when calling in.

Also, going to Iowa vs Wisconsin bball tonight in Madison 🙂 Go Hawks!

I was hoping we would hear back today, but it looks like it might be Thursday instead... good luck!
Wait, why not today? it seems it has been mostly in the afternoon. In anycase, I've already resigned myself to final pool, so no expectations here 🙂

Haha I guess because I have been up for so long that it feels like the day should be mostly over by now. Whoops! Yes, there is still a chance for today. I have a feeling final pool will be the outcome for myself as well...

I just got the committee decision email, and was accepted!! I am soooooo excited! I feel silly for worrying so much. This second half of my application cycle has gone so much better than the first 🙂

WOOOOTTT!!! Congrats!!!

Are you non-traditional?

Sort of? I graduated in 2013. I am beginning to think taking time off between undergrad and med school is pretty common though. My life experiences are more nontraditional, however.

Oh. I asked because you said kids. My curiosity is due to the fact that I have a 2 month old. I was interested how you plan to juggle medical school and raising your kids. I'm trying to formulate a tentative plan myself.

Message me and we can talk 🙂

Anybody know when second look is? I want to bring my partner, but he needs a fair amount of advance notice so he can get time off from work.
