2014-2015 University of Iowa (Carver) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Congratz noodlelover. Very nice Lizzy number.

They mentioned decisions would be made after January 1 for those who interviewed mid November.

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope some of your wins will be good news this cycle.

Any ideas on when final pool is going to go out? Should be end of the month, right?
Sent in my last 2 updates, hoping for good news soon!

I interviewed this last Wednesday (the 7th). At the interview they told us that the rolling admissions period was over - so anyone interviewing now is basically interviewing for a chance to be on the alternate list (waitlist).

That's not quite true. At my interview in November they said that if you weren't accepted during rolling admissions you were placed in final pool, which they would fill the last 1/3 of seats in the class from in February, so there are still many acceptances that will go out next month!

no...they fill 2/3 of the class from final pool.

They told us at my interview in December that we wouldn't here until March.

When in December did you interview? I was in the first week in December and they still were saying 4-6 weeks. Now I am worried I will be waiting even longer 🙁

19th last day before break

Well I suppose there is still hope. Thanks for the response!
Definitely there is still plenty of time.
The holidays had to play some role in the timing too. Good luck! I hope we both get an acceptance notice!

I hope we do too! Good luck!

I suppose we got conflicting information - I hope what they told you in November is more accurate.

I was told that we would hear whether or not we were put on an alternate list or rejected sometime in between mid-Febuary and mid-March. From then, those placed on the alternate list could potentially wait until August for a final decision (acceptance vs rejection).

My Tuesday afternoon email:

"Dear Applicant:

Thank you for your interest in the Carver College of Medicine. As we evaluate our admission process in preparation for the next application cycle, we are particularly interested in your feedback about our process. Please take a few minutes to complete this short survey..."

My heart skipped a beat and then I let out a long, exasperated sigh. :meh: Here's my feedback: don't send this on a Tuesday.

Same!!! You never want to see "Dear Applicant, thank you for interest in XYZ school" because usually it ends with "we're sorry we can't let you in." My stomach dropped to the floor when I read that first part.

I just got the same......

Hah, glad we went through the same thing. I went though a lot of emotions in a span of 10 seconds. Jubilation, sadness, a little bit of anger, then back to normal.

One thing I haven't been able to figure out is if the adcom's meetings on a given Tuesday are limited to OOS or IS candidates. Overanxious and Scribblers are both OOS (congrats!), don't know if any IS got in today. Does anyone know of past dates where OOS and IS both got in? IIRC, there was a Tuesday on which several IS got in, and no OOS. Thoughts?

I called the admissions office recently. They said that this week and next week are the last of the rolling admissions decisions. After that the next five weeks is for the entire pool and most decisions will get notified between mid-February and mid-march.

Thanks for letting us know! Did they mention that if we are waiting for a decision whether we will hear back either way or not?

I did not ask that specifically for everyone but the impression I got was that if you interviewed a while back and haven't heard you'll be notified if you are going to the entire pool after the end of next week.

Does anyone know if they validate your parking for you on interview day? Cuz $15 parking fee is a lot considering most schools has either free parking or they validate it for u (so its free). Just wondering!

If you troll some of the surrounding residential neighborhoods, there is sometimes available onstreet parking for free. Not sure about if the validate for the ramp though

Finally rejected (kinda figured since interviews are finishing this week).

Rejected as well. At least they didn't leave us hanging in silence for ages.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Rejected. 🙁

Loved this program.

Except they did because a lot of us were waiting to hear from them since July. That's the definition of hanging in silence for ages right there.

Not sure if it would be $15. It's $0.60 for the first hour and $1.20 for the next hours so it should be less than $15

Edit: I asked a couple other people and it seems there is no validation sorry 🙁

Lots of fantastic things about iowa but parking isn't one of them!

It seems that way, but it's not bad relatively speaking. It's been dead silence from around 13 schools since July for me. Who knows how long they'll take.
