is there a facebook group for this class??
The school doesn't create a facebook page for each class like some schools do. Official communication is all by email. However, students have created facebook pages for each previous class and a lot of people use it to share material and advertise social events. If there still isn't a facebook page for UKCOM class of 2019, you should create one!is there a facebook group for this class??
I think that's safe to assume. They do usually fill their class by the end of the year.since they already had their second look day, is it safe to assume that all spots are filled and everyone else will go onto waitlist?
I called them. That's what you're supposed to do. I did it, and they offered me an interview the following week.Anyone who has been put on hold and is in undergrad still--how did you send in your fall semester grades? Did you request an unofficial transcript from your school or was it more casual than that? I was just gonna send a screen shot to the kymed email, what do you guys think?
Wait... so you mean to say that people that interview in January and February can't get accepted? What's the point in interviewing if you can't get in? Surely they will continue to accept people. A lot of people were probably on hold like me.I think that's safe to assume. They do usually fill their class by the end of the year.
You can still be accepted, but you are essentially interviewing for your waitlist position. Then as people give up their spots to go to other schools, they will be filled in from the waitlist. As of right now, they have probably accepted enough people to fill the entire class. It should say this in the email they sent when they offered you an interview.Wait... so you mean to say that people that interview in January and February can't get accepted? Sigh... I was so excited about it that I didn't read the whole email. You're absolutely right. :/You can still be accepted, but you are essentially interviewing for your waitlist position. @JSensei, Don't let interviewing for a likely waitlist spot discourage you too much! I know a whole bunch of people in my class who interviewed in Jan and Feb and who were originally waitlisted. I don't have insight into the inner workings of the AdCom, but it may be that at this school they don't over-accept by the margin that other schools do (like accepting triple the class size or something).Sigh... I was so excited about it that I didn't read the whole email. You're absolutely right. :/
I may have not understood it correctly, but from what I remember, they said at the interview day that everyone that's put on hold will stay on hold until they actually rank their waitlist in the spring. Maybe someone else can back this up.Anyone who has already interviewed and was put on hold--do you know when we're supposed to find out about our status? Also any ideas about our possibility of being accepted vs waitlisted even though they already had the second look day?
From the admissions website: "Since our interview and admission decisions are made on a rolling basis (based on the date of completion of your file), it is very important that you complete your file as early as possible. This includes your Secondary Application, evaluation letters, and payment of your Secondary Application fee. Our class is typically filled and oversubscribed in late December or early January." http://meded.med.uky.edu/important-dates-2014-2015-admissions-cycleim confused because i received interview invite back in September and only date open was in January which i took so I never received the email with that information regarding seats being full
does anyone know when they typically do the criminal background check thingy? (Or has anyone already received the email from Certiphi?) AMCAS say the CBC are starting in January 1st & after that whenever a student is accepted... @_@
ah okay so it's not just me who hasn't received the CBC email. phew~My understanding is that some schools do not participate in this program? But I'm not sure... I have not yet received a background check request either.
Hmm, weird. I don't know anything about facebook, but I know @akaMondo started ours for class of 2018 even though she didn't end up coming here. Maybe she can tell you how she did it. Or someone can PM you their facebook name so you can friend each other.I tried to start a Facebook group for the class of 2019, but it won't let me do it without adding at least one of my friends to the group. And since I'm not friends with any of you... So yeah. Didn't work.
If anyone that's been accepted is interested in helping me get the group started, let me know.Hmm, weird. The only scholarship application last year was for "enhancement" scholarships, which are not merit based. They went out by email early January for my class. As far as I know, all other scholarships were decided upon without an application.Does anyone know if merit aid requires an application?
This is true. Julie McDaniel, the financial aid director, told me that all students are automatically considered for merit based scholarships. Those will be awarded on or around February 15th. A ten person committee reviews each applicant's AMCAS, secondary, and interviewer notes to decide who gets the scholarships. The Enhancement Scholarship application was for need-based scholarships. The only scholarship application last year was for "enhancement" scholarships, which are not merit based. Are there any current UK students that read this thread?
Yeah, some of us were just wondering if you all had some recommendations about laptops. The UK requirements are fairly broad, and we wanted to get some input from someone who has been in the program.I am a current M4, I think there are a couple other current students floating around who have been answering questions in this thread. Happy to answer questions if you have any!

I'm a current first year. We take exams on our computers first and second years. The majority of my class has Macs, but there are some exceptions. I think the school gives minimum processing requirements in the Admitted Newsletter and they're not too fancy.Yeah, some of us were just wondering if you all had some recommendations about laptops. Thanks for the advice! I'll pass this along to other future students. If you hear anything else that might be helpful, let me know.I'm a current first year. I take notes on my laptop, but quite a few people use iPads for lecture notes and handwrite comments in programs like Notability. I don't think courses are using CDs anymore (most new Macs don't have CD drives). Instead, we've had some course material on flashdrives. My "big sib" recommended I buy the biggest laptop screen I could get, and I'm glad I took her advice. I spend a lot of my day looking at my laptop screen and I can't imagine how sore my eyes would be if it were tiny. (You'll be getting an email offering a big sib/little sib pairing with someone from my class toward the end of summer for interested incoming first years. I've benefitted a lot from my big sib's advice!)
I interviewed at the same time & got the letter today.Just received my hold letter in the mail today. Interviewed 1/24. Really excited for even the chance to be at UK. It's a great school and a great town.
I filled out my institutional financial aid application as well as my MPN and counseling for direct and GradPlus loans but does anyone know if I need to actually apply for either of these loans at this time? If any current students could explain the loan process somewhat that would be great.
The Broadway end of Red Mile Road is almost exclusively devoted to housing. Are there any current students who can give some advice about housing? I would like to live within walking distance of the med school. Is off campus the only option, or are there on campus options as well for med students?
There is on-campus housing available for professional students but I don't know much about it. I know several people in my class live there or will live there next year. Are there any current students who can give some advice about housing? Wondering the same thing. I'll be traveling to Lexington in a couple of weeks to look for apartments, and I'm trying to figure out which places to go check out.I noticed there are apartments called Medical Villas and Medical View Properties that seem to be right next to the med school building. Are those good apartments?
Sorry, I don't have specific knowledge of those apartments, but it's definitely in a convenient location! If you're close enough, I highly recommend coming out to look around for housing in person before committing to a lease.I noticed there are apartments called Medical Villas and Medical View Properties that seem to be right next to the med school building.
