2014-2015 University of Miami (Miller) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Wait, was my grammar wrong?! Maybe it's just internet fatigue then...I just meant that I don't think you can do an interview at Miami before Sept. 9th-ish at the earliest.

I think you meant to say "second week of September", but you typed "second week of Miami." I was just teasing 😛

I have had the "under review" status since 7/23 🙁... what does this mean? Anyone else in the same boat, is it just really that random?

Does anyone know if Miami is responsive to "in the area" notices?

Woot woot my picture was finally processed todayy! Only 7 days. 🙂

Also, what does this mean below? Did they actually look at my application already? I just was complete today.

MD Program
Your application has been reviewed by the Admissions Committee at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. At this time, a final decision has not been reached on your application.

08/26: emailed pic w/AMCAS ID in body to [email protected]
08/28: emailed pic w/AMCAS ID in body and subject to [email protected]
09/03: received email notice stating pic was processed. site also shows.

Ok thanks I'll use that then. Back when I emailed my photograph, I emailed [email protected] and they claimed they didn't get it so I emailed the other and they still claimed they didn't get it. Had to call them up and talk with the secretary who then realized she lost it somehow and found it again. Anyways site shows http://admissions.med.miami.edu/contact

Thanks!

I know I'm a bit late to this but I just got my secondary and I have no idea what they want for the behavioral sciences... I emailed them asking if any humanities can cover it and they said. "Not all humanities courses are behavioral sciences. We are looking for sociology, psychology, ethics, anthropology." I asked about whether econ courses or world history courses count and they replied "The courses include sociology, psychology or bioethics. This is based on the new content in MCAT 2015 and recognition that these are important topics for physicians to be familiar with."

So I'm guessing unless I took strict sociology, psychology, or bioethics course, I can't apply?

I really wish they could have just said yes or no instead of giving me vague answers...

I think you should just go with whatever you think qualifies…I have an interview invite and I didn't really take more than 2 psych and sociology classes in all of college.

I agree, and I'll add that I would say econ over world history. Also keep in mind that you have to compete the courses before you begin, not before you apply, so if it came down to it you could take a psych or sociology class in the spring at a community college or something.

Can anyone comment on the MD/MPH program and where these students end up for residency and in what specialties? I also read that classes start in June. That's crazy early but I guess that's how you can fit everything in!

The first class of the new md/mph curriculum is graduating this year.

To people who received interviews, how long were you in this status "Your Application has been reviewed by the Admissions Committee at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Applicants will be invited to interview based upon their evaluation score from the Admissions Committee review. You will be contacted by email if you are selected for an interview. Interview invitations are extended between August and March"?

Were in this this status for 1 week? 1 day?

I just entered this status this morning and am wondering if this is good news.

Can I ask when you were complete? I still have the "currently under review" status and I've been complete since 8/20

Have any interview invites gone out in the past couple of weeks?

II this morning via email!

I did not check that often. Last time I checked, about a week ago, I had the complete and under review status. So I never saw the above status.

II today for MD/MPH. Submitted secondary 7/24 and photo received/complete 8/29.

Does anyone know how long it should take if I go from the UMiami campus to the Palm Beach location? google maps says it's 80 miles, but I have no clue how bad traffic in Miami can get and I've heard it's horrid. I'm just worried because I'm booking a rent-a-car right now and if the trip should take more than a few hours, I'll have to pay for two days. Any input would be very much appreciated!

depending on how fast you drive and how bad the traffic is, it can take anywhere from 1.5 - 2.5 hours

Anyone interviewing this week? It's my first one... Can't wait!

The interview spot is here for those looking for it in the future, it was pretty hard to find because you can come in through the 10th or 12th avenue and it doesn't necessarily say the correct building name you're looking for…from the 10th avenue it's called the Medical Research Building whereas your interview allegedly happens at the Rosentiel building. Just wanted to throw this is a heads up for those thinking they can swing by the morning of and just find the place or those who are confused about the location just like I was!

Anyone interviewing on the 28th/29th wants to carpool on the 29th? I, along with another interviewee, are trying to get some people together so we can we split gas.

Good luck going to medical school in Miami if you need to save money on gas 🙂
