2014-2015 University of Miami (Miller) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Still haven't heard from them. Called earlier and they said some decisions still haven't been released from last week and we should find out via email. Guessing that means rejection or wl. Prolly the latter since they don't reject post II.

Btw didn't get a close enough look at your avatar. Dreadnoughts are freakin awesome!!!!

Blood Angels?

All about the 'nids brah.

If I am not wrong, I believe the 56.25 price is the same for college and graduate students. Students at local colleges, universities and vocational schools pay the same fare for the monthly easy pass, which is half off the regular price.
Miami is extremely spaced out. You will spend more than $57 per month in gas. Necessary evil.

LOL do you drive a Boeing 747? That would be me filling up my civic every 4 days  one hell of a commute to class

If that's all you're doing yea, but I used to spend about that much living in Miami as an undergraduate student. I drive a Mazda. I should have specified the situation.....

Yeah I'm just messing with you. I could easily spend that much if I'm drivin all around... although Axis is less than 4 miles from campus. Either way, it's all meaningless expenses in the grand scheme of it all.

I have a March interview date. Am I essentially interviewing for the wait list?

Unless if you are told that you are interviewing for the waitlist (some schools do), good rule of thumb is to assume that you are interviewing for a seat!

I don't think anyone here can tell you that for sure ... but I did just speak to the admissions office, and they mentioned they're still sending out acceptances.

So I would say you've got a shot 🙂

EDIT: Heed the wise advice of @miamiheatfan

still no merit scholarship for anyone on here? I keep checking the mailbox and all I get are credit card offers... perhaps there will be some merit with financial aid packages? Hope at least someone gets something...

Rejected pre-interview yesterday. Am I the only one?
Whaaaa? That's crazy, did you receive an email? I just checked my status and it still says "under review" although I know it's all said and done.

Ditto on the 'currently being reviewed' train.
I guess we will see our rejections this coming week, though, if they are already being sent out...

I talked to admissions last week and they are still reviewing applications for interviews. They said they won't finish handing out interviews for a couple more weeks so there is still hope!

....And it seems like we made it through another round of pre-interview rejections

I would love to get an II from Miami anytime, but interviewing during the Winter Music Conference would be awesome On a more relevant note, congrats @Kay293T !!

Does anyone know how long they interview until? Like when will the last interview invitations be sent out? I still haven't heard anything back after submitting my secondary

Received an II about an hour ago. Wondering if it's even worth going though...

I'm pretty sure they interview through March, with the dates @Kay293T posted I'd assume the 27th is the last day.

Congrats! Why wouldn't it be worth it..?
I have other acceptances and it's an expensive flight/hotel. I'm not really sure interviewing this late would give me the best chance, or whether I would attend if I was accepted. I don't mean to sound ungrateful, it just kinda complicates my decisions. I'm already so indecisive....

In that case, I think you should feel for your peers without any interviews, and cancel your interview if Miller is not one of your top choices. Be considerate! Good karma will head your way.

Kinda crazy when April 8th is their last day for acceptances right? I interviewed last week, and they told us the earliest we would find out is April 8th (which is the last acceptance date).

I agree with this

lol everyone says, "yeah give up the interview so we can have it!" 😉

@confusedhokie If you feel there is any chance you may regret not going, I would go. In the long run 500 bucks or so for flight/hotel is very small drop in the bucket. Good luck and congrats on being in a position to have these options.

To echo @amad01 's sentiment, Miami was definitely one of my more enjoyable and memorable interviews. Among many other things, the students were extremely social and happy, the numerous highly regarded specialty centers offer a wealth of clinical research opportunities, the campus was pretty and somewhere I could see myself spending 4 years, and the proximity to the beach is pretty awesome. It would be a shame to miss out on the opportunity to explore somewhere you might really like and fit in because you're worried about a cost that's relatively insignificant in the long run.

And as a counterpoint, Miami's students were awesome, but I had an awful interview day. My interviewer was a jerk and I was stuck listening to a military recruiter talk about how awesome military scholarships are for 40 f*cking minutes during lunch when current students were supposed to do a meet and greet. The recruiter tried getting some of the MS 4's to do the military match even though they'd already entered their match data. It was atrocious.

The school seemed to be selling its weather as the high point of attendance. I'd rather have heard about research experiences, student clinics, etc. I mean, they showed a 5 minute video of people/cars slipping on ice. It was like... is there nothing else about this school that's worth mentioning?

It was so played out.

I loved the school in spite of my interview day, not because of it.

I didn't have the recruiter on my day luckily, but I agree with the weather selling. We watched the stupid ice video haha I forgot about that. That's a very good point, maybe they see it as their biggest strength I donno... it rained the whole time I was there. I don't recall much talk at all about research now that I think of it, but they did mention on my day the unlimited specialties and opportunities with size and diversity at Jackson Memorial.

I also had a pretty crappy interview day in general... I had the tour first in the rain and was soaked for my interview, which also went bad.. but still think Miami is awesome

Thanks for the recommendation! I'm probably going to end up doing that. Going to wait for that confirmation email first though before I book anything. Hopefully I can get a student host so I don't have to drop a chunk of money on hotel.

Hey you aren't interviewing on the 16th and 17th of March by chance, are you? I am also interviewing for the MD and MD/MPH programs and would love to share transportation/potential hotel costs!

-I had the same situation with the confirmation email btw. I called the admissions office, but the confirmation email they sent back had almost no information (student host options, campus map, where to meet the second day etc.) on it. Did you get any more information in your confirmation (like an attached link or something)??
