2014-2015 University of Oklahoma Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Deferred. IS, 31, 3.88. And I thought it went so well!
We literally have the same numbers and interview story. I'm not sure whether I should bother holding my breath for being accepted in February or not.

Anyone that got accepted having trouble paying the deposit? It says I need my application ID number, but its not showing up on my admissions portal!!

Yes, make sure you erase your social security number if you have already typed it in. When you do that, your number reappears!

When I clicked on the website to pay the deposit, I was required to pay 500, but on the admissions offer page it says 100... yet even after I paid the 500 it still says my deposit has not been paid. I'm guessing I should call admissions about this?

Hey all. If you already accepted the offer, send me a friend invite on fb with a message so i can start a group. Once the group is started, i will post the link to this thread. My fb url is https://m.facebook.com/zfergus1. I can't wait to be back in OK next year!!!

Hang in there. I was in-state with a 3.8 and 32, got deferred in December, then waitlisted in February, and finally accepted in May. With your stats and being IS, I would be surprised if you don't get in either in February or off the waitlist. I don't recall specifically, but I'm pretty sure they only accept either 1/3 or 1/2 of the class size this first go-round, so plenty of seats remain, and you'll have better stats than most of the people interviewing in January

Rejected today. Not even an interview. 4.0 gpa and 34 mcat. Out of state with no instate ties.

I forgot to mention this earlier, but I was accepted as well! I am choosing the OKC track.

Does anyone know the number of accepted December and the number of still open spots for February?

Thanks ! that was really helpful took me a while to get back on here but thanks !
Hi! I'm an MS2 SCM trackie. If you're wanting first hand or close knowledge, I would suggest emailing Meredith Talley about 3rd or 4th years who could answer those questions. There aren't that many SCM people who check these forums (is my understanding). The curriculum is the same across the board comparing the two tracks. The difference between OU-OKC and OU-Tulsa is the rotation sizes. Instead of 3-5 people in a group for a rotation, you may have 1-2 which gives you more hands on opportunity and chances to see the things. Rotation sizes are smaller and there is more one-on-one with residents/attendings. There's also a more interdisciplinary aspect that Tulsa sets as a focus. Physicians interact with PAs, Nurses, Social workers, and many more in the real world, and as students you learn from the get go how important those interactions are.

If you are on the SCM for the Class of 2019 and there after, you will be in Tulsa for the most part of your schooling. However during 4th year, depending on your interest you can do rotations in OKC easily. There is no hinderance or downside of residency whichever track you pick.[/QUOTE

Did everyone who was deferred this round get the same email?

Thank you for coming to The University of Oklahoma College of Medicine to meet with members of the Admissions Board. Final action on your application has been deferred until later in the process. You will receive notification of a final action once your file has been reviewed by the Admissions Board at the final meeting in February.
Please be reassured that we look forward to the possibility of you eventually joining the Class of 2019. It is, however, an unfortunate possibility that your application this year will be unsuccessful. We will notify you of a final decision as soon as possible. It is important that you proceed at this time with a scenario of an unsuccessful application. This approach will give you the maximum amount of time to begin making improvements to your application should a reapplication become necessary.
In the meantime, if you have any questions, feel free to contact this office. We want to wish you every success in this most important endeavor.
Sincerely yours,

Sherri S. Baker, M.D.
Associate Dean of Admissions

Does anyone know if OU sends rejection letters to those who don't receive interviews? I have not received and ii or notification of rejection and I know that all of the interviews are supposed to be complete by the end of January.

I would suggest maybe calling the admissions office, especially if you are an in-state student. I know that they are finished sending out interview invites

As far as im aware they are done giving out interviews

I realize this is a really late reply, but I'm an MS4 in the SCM track if you have any other questions about Tulsa. OUmed2017_ac is right, we aren't on here as much (I think this is the first time I've posted in 3 years), but this whole agonizing wait until Match Day has led me to seek out any sort of distractions that I can find. And congrats to everyone who was accepted, I've loved my 4 years at OU!

Hey guys I'm interviewing on Thursday, and was wondering if you guys had any advice??

Denied, pre-interview, earlier today. 3.5, 35, with some limited in state ties. Consistent with "they are done giving out interviews."

Good luck to the rest of you!

I neglected to mention some other potentially relevant details. Primary application sent 10/15/2014. Secondary submitted on 10/24/2014. So, obviously a slightly late app.

Just be yourself. People who interviewed the same day as me said their interviews weren't bad. However, my interviewers grilled me with ethical questions. Just try to stay calm (easier said than done) and explain your logic. I think they just want to see how you handle pressure. Overall, it was a good experience though, so enjoy it! Good luck!

I suppose just be yourself, enjoy your time on campus. It's a great school!
I agree the school looks great. The campus is beautiful just the OU main campus in Norman and the facilities are very up to date. The faculty and students were extremely welcoming and friendly during my interview. I really hope that I can attend this fall.

I interviewed on Jan 12th and haven't heard anything back yet though I am very anxious. Does anyone know when letters are supposed to go out? Also, one of my friends posted a screenshot of an email acceptance letter on facebook a couple months ago, does OU do email acceptances in addition to the BRE or is it only email now? Good luck to everyone waiting to hear back!

I also interviewed in January and was told we would hear back around the end of February. So still a month of waiting, sadly!

Is the grading system at OU pass/fail with rankings or are there grades? (I apologize if this has been answered and I've just failed to find it)

It's honors/pass/fail, with honors being a score of 94.5% or higher in all components of the class

I talked to dotty, and she said the earliest we would hear back would be around February 24.

I may be ignorant but what is the BRE?

waitlisted :/ I wonder how many applicants are holding multiple acceptances...

Waitlisted as well! Keep your fingers crossed! I hope I get to attend at OU because of how great you all are! Seriously though, I hope everyone who got into OU also got into Harvard or Johns Hopkins and choose to go there instead.

ACCEPTED to both OKC and Tulsa campuses! Received word at noon today.

My stats are: MCAT 26, 4.0 GPA, in state. Good luck to everyone!

Good luck to everybody on the wait list! The uncertainty sucks but definitely don't give up hope, it seems like we usually have pretty decent movement from the wait list here.
