2014-2015 University of Pittsburgh Application Thread

Yep, I got a rejection via snail mail today.

Same. Literally just found out through my mother reading the letter out loud to me over the phone (I attend a residential college far away). Something that struck me about it is that we have to go to AMCAS and recheck "MD" if we want to be considered for that. I thought it would just roll over...did you find this surprising?

Rejected yesterday. OOS LizzyM~73-74. Oddly enough, everyone I know who was rejected (granted, sample size n=3) yesterday scored 11 BS on the MCAT, although they did a lot better in PS.

I scored a 14 in the Biological Science section, and I was rejected yesterday. I couldn't imagine there to be any correlation between a particular sub-score and interview invites.

Rejected 9/26, complete 8/22. LizzyM 77. To everyone else who got the same email, believe me I feel you. I saw the email half an hour before I had to head into an interview, so that was ROUGH. But it's not the first rejection I've gotten (also got rejected from Mayo right off the bat, no request for letters), and it sure as hell won't be the last. So here's to accepting rejection as part of this lengthy process and celebrating the II's that do come!!

Like it! "accepting rejection and celebrating interviews" I feel you!

I'm really excited about my interview! I got a 36 on my MCAT, though, so I probably don't deserve it. 🙁

I'm late to respond but on my interview day on 8/25 Dr. Piraino said "If you got an interview invitation, you are determined to be qualified based on your scores. Now we want to assess the fit..." You certainly deserve the II if Pitt designated you to receive one  And as a fellow 36'er, it's a fantastic score 😉.... right at the school's median, in fact!

My interview invite came 2 days after I submitted my secondary, which I submitted in September, and I had a 32.

The entire application of every applicant is read. It doesn't take that long to read an application, and there are a number of factors that go into it. I'm sorry you received a rejection, and I know it is frustrating, but it's not necessary to jump to false conclusions. At the end of the day, there are only so many interview invites and only so many seats. Best of luck with the rest of your application cycle.

Perfectly said!

rejected a few days ago. Kinda sucks, but it's whatever. Is it just me or does anyone else thrive off rejection? I feel like it motivates me that much more to just run train at whichever med school I end up at; just hoping to make schools regret their judgements.

I guess that works if you are certain you will get in *somewhere* lol... for me, rejections are terrifying cus I have iffy numbers and am currently sitting on 0 interviews

+1, nothing is certain in this game. Until I'm sitting on an acceptance (heck I'd even take an II somehwere to start), rejections just make m chances worse.

One last jog in Pitt. It gets painful to leave now. It's getting emotional. Happen to got taking on tour by a legendary M4 who took step 1 a month early or something. She did not stop speaking super awesome facts about Pitt SOM in the entire hour. Interviews were extremely conversational. And they seem to not afraid to tell you if they really like you. Both of mine did explicitly. Just be yourself and be sincere, which seems to characterize the city, the school and the people here. I would gladly call Pitt a home. Good luck to all.

I know, isn't Pitt amazing??? It is truly a gem of a school! Glad you had such a great interview day! We may be co-MS1's next year 😉

Can anyone clarify if Pittsburgh evaluates candidates during the tour of their school? I noticed several MS-4's writing down something lengthy after mine. 🙁

Hm...Did they write in the admission office? Maybe a tour feedback? I am not sure how to rationally evaluate candidates on a tour...

I was pretty sure they weren't formally evaluating students, though I imagine they would report if someone was clearly uninterested or asking inappropriate questions. I didn't see tour guides writing anything down when I interviewed.

@T1p I don't remember anyone writing anything at the end of mine either.

Waiting on my rejection from this place. I was under the impression that UPSOM has a quick turnaround with their decisions.

Has anyone gotten an interview yet that was able to see how many dates are left for interviews?

Rejected via email today. LizzyM ~78. I think they might just be out of interview dates, if nothing else.

Rejected today, LM ~75. Complete early Sept so yummyoatmeal might be right

Rejected today LM >75. :'(

Has anyone heard any (bad) news from MSTP? :S

I can confirm that they'll send you a rejection letter for MSTPs. If you haven't gotten one yet, you're still in the running! Unfortunately, I got mine today. 0-3-12 for interviews...

I haven't heard of any other schools (that I'm applying to) who mail out their rejection notices, so at least I don't have to dread my mailbox anymore.

Anyone get a rejection email today? I didn't even receive a complete email. But got a rejection email today. Not surprised though. This was a reach for me. OOS LM 70+

Rejected 10/09.

Stings a little to be honest - this is my first rejection and I would have loved to have seen the school. Wishing you all better luck than I've had.

Any MSTP applicants that interviewed >= 3 weeks ago heard anything? Today is maybe the day of decision notifications, and I'm trying to sit on my hands to not email/call. Any thoughts?

Ended up picking Nov 18 interview even though Nov 5th was available. Is this detrimental from any of your experiences seeing as this is a non-rolling school? Pitt is my top choice but I had scheduling conflicts.

Hey guys! Hope interviews and applications are going well for everyone! Any sub-30 interview invites/WLs/acceptances? If so, when were you complete and what were your stats? Thanks for the information and good luck to all applicants!

Decisions won't be released until Jan 30/31, so this cycle, nobody's yet been notified.

Good luck to you!

Post-interview rejection via mail received this weekend for MSTP 🙁

Just rejected via email. OOS LizzyM 70+. Received secondary 7/15, but didn't complete it until 10/8. Was a reach for me, but still disheartening.
