OOS 3.5/38 MCAT 4 years research, Hold for MSTP at UW-Madison

C:8/29 H:10/6

Looks like IS notifications are batching out on Wednesdays. Based on date of residency verification, tomorrow is judgement day. Oh boy.

For what it's worth, I received my in-state invitation on a Tuesday. It arrived a little after 4 PM Central.

OOS. Just got interview invite today. Does anyone one know stats for interviews vs acceptances (rather than matriculants) for OOS?

Anyone here happen to have experience submitting info on course equivalents to UWSMPH? I've got an interview, but took neither biochem nor stats as an undergrad. I should qualify to meet the requirements through equivalent experiences as noted on the admissions website (lab work, related advanced coursework as an undergrad, a few years of relevant work experience after college), but I don't know what documentation I should have ready. I asked the office about it, and they said they don't even look at prereqs pre-acceptance, but didn't give me much other info. Obviously putting the cart before the horse a bit here, but I don't want to get into a situation where I get accepted and can't matriculate because of the prereqs. Worst case, do they let people fulfill the requirements pre-matriculation with a summer semester course or something like that?

All course requirements have to be completed prior to matriculation, meaning you would have to have them verified and completed before school starts in August. So yes, you can take summer school.

The school just runs a course verification (it's on the list of things you would do before orientation starts) and you would submit info on what course you are using as the equivalent, and provide any proof (it would tell you what you need) that it covered the topics they expect. If you can take a course on it, it would help you with the first two block of exams more instead of trying to use a substitute course though, especially since you would sort of be at a disadvantage compared to students who actually took biochem/stats and recently graduated.

What's the dress code for the Thursday night get together? Is it like jeans and a t-shirt or like khakis and a polo?

Anything your heart desires! I have seen many interviewees so far at the socials in both of the outfits you described. Personally, I always prefer to be dressed on the nice side, so I would go with the polo. However, if you go the t-shirt route, probably dont chose one with an inappropriate photo or saying (you probably deduced as much yourself lol)

I showed up soaking wet from the thunderstorm in gym shorts, flip flops, and a T-shirt last year,

Sometimes there are ambitious people who show up in a full-blown suit, but it's totally casual and nobody in that room has any power to influence whether or not you would get accepted/rejected at the school. Make sure to bring a bag to take home some snacks/beverages if you feel compelled 😀

Noooooo dont reveal our secrets! Less for us now 😱

Last year the earliest acceptances (to UWSMPH) came out on the 17th via phone call. Anyone know if they are planning to make calls again this year?

Anyone else get word yet? Seems pretty silent here

Congrats to everyone accepted! Does anyone know if anymore II went out this week?

Could someone comment on their interview experience?

I know its 1 MD and a group student interview...but how was it? ethical questions? behavioral questions? or just simple basic ones....why medicine? why uwsmph?

^^ I'm wondering the same. Interview scheduled for late October.

UW SMPH was my first interview and I couldn't have asked for a better atmosphere for it. Both the faculty and student group interviews were really friendly and a lot more casual than I had expected. The faculty interview was very conversational and I genuinely felt like my interviewer just wanted to get to know me and my interest in medicine. Nothing at all like a job interview, I personally wasn't asked any ethical or behavioral questions. The student group interview takes place in the afternoon, and you're put together with two other interviewees and two medical students. Once again, most of it just centered around getting to know each other, learning more about the SMPH and anything else that came to mind. Everyone I met here seemed really happy and supportive, and the interviews were no different.

Good luck to both of you, you're gonna love it there!

I assume you find out who your interviewer is the morning of? And the faculty interview is open file?

Yes you find out the morning of when you get your folder, and partially - I believe the faculty interviewer can see your activity descriptions and PS, but no numbers like GPA, MCAT, Schools attended. (Exception is if you are interviewing for WARM, then your interviewer can see the whole file)

Exactly this. My interviewer had a copy of my AMCAS and had already looked it over ahead of time, but without grades/MCAT. I'm not certain if they have your secondary essay or not.

I'm not sure. If something shows up by snail mail I will let you know.

Just cause you haven't heard back doesn't necessarily mean bad news! Good news could come in the mail too. Gotta stay positive and have faith!

I seem to remember them saying at interviews that they could notify via phone or snail mail. FWIW, I looked through last year's thread and several people were notified on Oct. 17, but that was a Thursday, whereas today is Friday and therefore an interview day. Hopefully next week? And last year the first wave of acceptances seemed to happen over the first few weeks.

Or at least this is what I'm telling myself after staring at my phone the past 3 days...

Right there with you, every moment it doesn't ring I go a little more crazy. Hoping for some snail mail tomorrow!

Still no snail mail today... Anyone know when it started to arrive last year? Am I right to be thinking I'll be getting a WL/rejection letter at this point?

The earliest stuff last year was the 17th (a Thursday). The 17th this year came on a Friday (an interview day) so I wouldnt be worried yet. If I get through Tuesday I might start getting worried. But I believe they said we would hear Rejection/Acceptance/Deferral right away

Ohh that makes much more sense! Sorry I misunderstood what you meant the first time you posted that. I'll be all over this thread Tuesday eager to see if you've heard back either

Be patient all, you will hear back soon, if not next week. There is nothing significant about the 17th except that last year they didnt have the first wave of calls ready on the 15th so they went out the 17th, that is all. Last year there were a couple people who interviewed on the first or second day of interviews and didnt get an acceptance call until 6 or 7 weeks later because once in a while it just works out that your faculty interviewer cant make it to the next couple Adcom meetings and they cant review your completed file as soon as they would like.

Like marq182 said, at this point, no news is no news, not bad news. Your chances of getting that acceptance call are just as high now as they were the day after your interview, or Oct. 15, or whatever. Hang in there guys 🙂

Thanks kittykattat! Will definitely keep my hopes up and be looking forward to next week! Are you a current student there? Do you know if your chances of acceptance are truly better interviewing so early? I felt somewhat subpar compared to the rest of my interview group (I believe we were the 2nd day) and just wanted to make sure it didn't hinder my chances going to such an early date. Thanks again for your response!

No problem, and good plan! Yes I am a current M1 so I just went through the same waiting game last October and I am active in admissions activities this year. Your chances of acceptance are probably better by interviewing early because there are still tons of slots left (I believe very few waitlists are handed out early in the fall, and that number really increases in the winter when there arent enough offers left to give out for all of the students that the adcom liked enough to accept).

And dont worry, I felt subpar compared to my interview group last year as well, and still do compared to the majority of my classmates, but if you were given such an early interview date, the admissions staff clearly liked what you had to offer! If you have more specific questions feel free to PM me. Goodluck! :luck:

Thanks for staying active on here and keeping us hopefuls from pulling our hair out! Really hoping to join you next fall, and I'll be taking advantage of that!

Also curious if that's a rejection by letter or just no word, I'm IS and have not received word after interviewing on 9/26.
Wisconsin doesn't do silent rejections. If you're accepted, they usually try to call you + inform you by inviting you to the fb group over email before the acceptance letter officially arrives (a couple weeks later).

If you're rejected (which isn't very common this early in the cycle) or waitlisted, you will receive your notice in the mail. Your post-interview note should have said you should expect to hear back between 4-6 weeks after your interview day. If by then you haven't heard/received anything in the mail, then you should call the admissions office to check on your status. Other than that, not everyone in your interview day will hear back the same week for various reasons, as kittykattat said 🙂

Thanks! They called this afternoon, Pacific time.

Like someone said earlier, they said the official written acceptance should arrive via snail mail in the next couple weeks.

Congratulations!!! Here's to hoping we still may be classmates!

Edit: was it your interviewer who called? Or someone else in admissions?

Thanks and my fingers are crossed you'll get your phone call soon! I heard from Jane Shepherd in the Admissions Office. So all of that phone-staring actually was justified.

Rejected in the mail today. LizzyM 76. IS. 1st day interview. Absolutely shocked. Good luck to everyone else though
