2014-2015 University of Wisconsin Application Thread

To all of the OOS rejections, don't worry! UW has a 2.3% OOS acceptance vs. a nearly 30% IS acceptance.

Yeah, not worried. I knew it would be a long shot. Just got a II elsewhere so it's been an up and down sort of day.

Does anyone know if your residency has to be determined before they start reviewing your app?

rejected this morning at 11:11.......... OOS LM 73

Sorry to hear that 🙁 I have the same stats and I'm just waiting for my rejection to come...when were you complete?

So maybe someone here can answer this...I submitted my application in July, and I am OOS. I never received a rejection letter but also haven't been given an II either. Should I call or do you think I am still being considered?

I'm wondering the same thing. OOS too, although I've only been complete since the first week of August. Probably still early for me. To anyone who knows, does UW give silent rejections?

I guess they sent out a bunch of rejection emails to OOS applicants already. Maybe one of us should call. Nose goes...

I think its much too early to worry about your file getting lost or something yet. You are undoubtedly still being considered.

Side thought: Unlike some schools who seem to go through files more or less in the order they are complete and either reject or extend an invite too you right away, UW seems to offer interviews somewhat in order of complete date, and somewhat in order of competitiveness (For example, last year's first batch of interviews went out mainly to the best of the best - dont worry, I wasnt in this group either! - but some of my current classmates told me that the very first interview day was full of all-stars, most of whom gained acceptance). Once they get those interview invites out, Im guessing they will re-review their pool of apps for the next best candidates and so on... or thats how it seemed to me anyway (dont quote me on this, it is just speculation based on the anecdotes I have of my current classmates, when they were complete, when they interviewed, and what kind of applicants they and their fellow interviewees were)! I didnt get an invite until the third week of Sep., interviewed in the second or third day of interviews that were held, and most of the in-staters as well as a chunk of the OOS-ers from my day were accepted 🙂 Hope this helps!

No silent rejections - you will hear eventually, just try to be patient. I know its hard! 😵

Have any ISers had their residency determined yet?

+1. UW is very good about their turnaround time (I would say decisions about IIs and rejections are made in less than 1-2 months). Last year I was complete on 8/5 and received my II on 9/5.

If they decide that your application is on the border, as in they don't want to reject you but want to wait until later to reconsidering offering an invite, I believe they also send those emails (pre-interview holds) out and will continue to keep people on that list updated.

For those who are stressing about no news - follow the rule of thumb that no news is, in a sense, good news 🙂! Don't get too worked up about the small details - the school makes many of their decisions in somewhat non-chronological batches (such as acceptances/rejections post-interview, etc).

I'm freaking out here guys. Got a rejection letter early July because I did not meet their minimum requirements and rightly so. Major in chemical engineering a very average GPA and 20-26 range mcat score, OOS. Just checked my email and yes they invited me to complete the secondaries, I'm not exactly sure what to do, probably an error....does anyone suggests anything ....

UW Admissions:
We believe that a computer error at AMCAS this morning caused all current applicants to the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health to receive a Secondary Application from us. This included people who had already completed their application to us as well applicants who had been rejected.
We are in the process of correcting this error. Please do not try to access our Secondary Application at this time. The applications sent in error this morning will be deleted.
We apologize for this inconvenience.

They just sent out an email saying that they had a computer error and accidentally sent out secondary invitations to just about everyone, including people who had been rejected and people who have completed their secondaries.

EDIT: Whoops, looks like publichealthguy beat me to it

I am complete but did not receive the secondary again - perhaps the error didn't affect ALL applicants.

I am rejected and didn't receive anything except the error email... Wanted to send a real nasty reply but ...

Me too, complete and got that email, but didn't receive the secondary again.

Same here. I wonder what that means...

It probably means that their system screwed up and sent out a request for secondaries to all people that didn't complete a secondary yet, which includes pre-secondary rejects.

But I filled out the secondary like two months ago...

After realizing their mistake, they probably thought it would be easier to blast everyone in their system with an email saying they made a mistake since they probably didn't know who received the erroneous secondary email. You didn't receive a secondary right? Just that error email?

Y'all are overanalyzing everything; computers and code have mistakes in them all the time.

I'm new to SDN, but I just want to offer some encouragement! I got an interview invitation (Oct 10th) and I am an out of state applicant! Very pleasantly surprised! Best of luck to everyone still waiting to hear back!!

Congrats! If you don't mind sharing, what are your stats/when were you complete?

Sure, submitted my secondary the 5th, (but didn't receive notification my application was complete until 8th) and received the interview invitation the 20th. My stats aren't super competitive MCAT 31/ 3.5 GPA, but I met a UWSMPH faculty member who really encouraged me to apply at a recruitment fair, so I mentioned that in my secondary essay. I am also bilingual and originally from South America if that makes a difference. Also have strong leadership extracurriculars and a publication? I'm honestly just really got a good feeling with this school so I'm really excited about the invitation. Good luck! Hope this was somewhat helpful!

What's the earliest date people are interviewing here?

Any in staters have their residency verified yet? I submitted the first day (2 1/2 weeks ago) and mine still isn't. Just wondering if it's moving along for anyone else

I got an email yesterday saying that I am complete... So I assume that means my IS status was verified.

Don't think that's true. You have to check your status on the secondary website.

I did. My residency was verified as of 4:03pm yesterday.... the same time I happened to get the complete email.
