2014-2015 Virginia Commonwealth University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Is there a consensus as to whether the may status or the further status is "better"? Probably reading in to this too much, but really hoping for an interview here.

As far as first-looks go, I think the "may" status is supposed to mean you're closer to being offered an interview than the "further" status; however, I got the "further" status, felt kind of bummed, and was offered an interview like 3 days later. I think the "may" status means, "we've looked at you, seems like you might make a good candidate" and "further" means "we didn't really look at your application that much yet, but you're not immediately rejected."

TL;DR - If you REALLY want to rank the statuses (1-5), "may" is better; but there doesn't seem to be much evidence that one is more likely to be offered an interview.

Hey everyone, I'm new to this thread since I haven't heard anything from VCU in several months. Just received this today:
"The committee's file review indicates that they wish to consider your file over the next several weeks before making a decision about interview. Since they have some reservations about granting an interview, your file will be reviewed again by a small sub-committee before making a final decision. Please continue to check this site in order to learn when further action has been taken."

I'm OOS, good GPA but low-end MCAT. Been a paramedic for 4 years and a full-time firefighter for 7. Any thoughts on what this update might mean or my chances for an II this late? Thanks in advance.

I'm also OOS, high GPA and low MCAT. Received the same status on Nov 21, and haven't heard anything since

That's the subcommittee message. Generally not a good sign. Ranked below the may and further status. But the subcommittee might like your application, so you never know.

Never mind, I received the further status. I didn't read far enough in your post. Best of luck!

I got my interview invite!! I was wondering if you guys could provide tips for me! 🙂

Mine was very relaxed and conversational. Quite low stress with the typical interview questions. Anything you would like to know?

Just got an e-mail notification that my status had been updated. However, I don't see anything new when I log in. Is there a delay between the email and a status change? If it was an II, what tab would I select to find it?

Thanks!

If it was an II then a screen would show up when you log in to select a date and time.

Loved this school, Interviewed on the 2nd and from what they told us, they were pretty caught up. So good luck to all those that are expecting to hear back on the 16th

I thought it was the 15th. The website says "Offers for admission are made on or before October 1 for the Early Decision Plan and October 16, December 15, February 1 and March 16"

Did they say differently at your interview?

I know they said Dec 16 during my interview (late October). Hopefully we'll hear good news tomorrow!

Just got the following update:

"The committee's file review indicates that they are interested in your candidacy. However, due to the increase in the applicant pool this year, it is clear we MAY be unable to interview all the candidates at your priority score. If we do find that we are unable to grant an interview, you will be notified by e-mail in March"

What are my chances? Historically speaking.

Secondary submitted 10/2/2014 and just received the complete update on 12/14/2014. Did not anticipate such a delay.

They also said Dec 16 at my November interview... I was very confused when I saw the 15th on the website. This is just going to make me more neurotic.
Well website does say AROUND December 15th. So December 16th seems quite plausible.

I just got the post interview hold status, interviewed a couple of weeks ago. I'm assuming we'll hear tomorrow?

Whew. I'm really hoping that's what it is, since no one has posted an acceptance yet...

I got my post interview hold the day before the last date too.

Got the post interview hold as well. Hopefully we hear tomorrow!!

Yup, I'm on this boat too. Don't know what to think...?

post interview hold. do we hear again tomorrow or is that the final decision (for now)?

You could hear tomorrow or you could be deferred to a later date. Having the post interview hold before the offer date means you'll be considered for the next offer date, which, for you, is the next day.

Guys I'm sorry to post again and be obnoxious, but what exactly does the "MAY" status indicate, historically? I feel like it is no different than the 'further" status.

They don't seem to be really different when it comes to getting an interview. "Further" is supposedly not as good, but I got my interview right after being switched to the further status.

I think it's based on how the person screening your application ranks you. They do it on a scale of 1-5. My impression is that further is a '3' and may is a '2.'

Ah ok thank you so much for answering! I got a may status last year and was never interviewed, but I hope this year I hear better news. Thanks again!
