2014-2015 Wake Forest University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just got an II today and signed up for a Nov 3rd interview! Very excited. I'm OOS, low undergrad GPA, high post-bacc GPA and 35 MCAT. Non-trad. Oh, and complete 7/22

Awesome, I was complete 7/22 as well and I'd almost lost hope! Maybe there's still a chance...

Marked complete in the secondary portal today, haven't received an email though
same thing happened to me. secondary received 8/24 (i think around then), saw that i was complete today
EDIT: received email later on

Earliest avail interview dates were end of October

also, how long did it take those who already received an interview to actually received said interview after completion?
I'm getting so antsyyyyyyy

did the peeps who got a secondary get some status "You will be receiving notification of your application status by e-mail" or does this mean im gonna get rejected? i had the same "1-2 weeks blah blah" until yesterday

alsoooo, if you are in a grad program, did they ask you for verification that you would be done by july 1 before or after sending secondary?

thanks guyssss

i think it changed from the 1-2 weeks to "we will be sending you the secondary application" or something to that effect

Submitted August 15. Complete e-mail today at around 5pm EST.

expensive to fly into greensboro! any tips anyone? just bite the $700 bullet?

Raleigh/Durham airport is bigger than Greensboro, so flights would probably be cheaper, but it's about a 1.5 hour drive from RDU to Wake Forest Med

Does anyone know the likelihood of an applicant receiving a secondary application? OOS, mediocre GPA, and relatively low MCAT - received a secondary app this morning that I honestly was not expecting. Don't get me wrong, I am ecstatic, but being a realist, I didn't expect to be getting it.

Hi all,

I have been lurking on this forum for years, but I just made an account today because I have a question for other Wake Forest applicants. Yesterday I tried submitted my application, but when I clicked on the "submit payment" button it told me to, "only click the button once." What was concerning was the fact that a confirmation page did not load, nor did I receive a confirmation e-mail. Is this a usual experience? I e-mailed them about it, but I have not heard anything yet.

Thanks and good luck to all the applicants of the 2014-2015 cycle!

And @Colin Orand, the median undergraduate GPAs and MCAT scores for Wake Forest medical students are 3.7 and 33 respectively. However, since this is an average there are acceptances above and below these stats. The lowest scores for accepted applicants are a GPA of 3.3 and an MCAT of 28. I would say just try to focus on being the best applicant you can be and not worry about your chances. This is harder said then done! Good luck with your secondary!

have a great weekend everyone!
heres to hoping for some IIs next week (or soon!!) for those who were just completed 🙂

Does anyone know if we can check our application status online for Wake?

anybody know if wake forest is receptive to update letters pre-interview? i have some pretty big updates (publication, and a few others). thanks!

Does anyone know if the 3 week secondary submission deadline was a HARD deadline? When I got my secondary I put it on the back burner since it wasn't one of my TOP priority schools and totally didn't catch that little line at the bottom about the deadline! I just saw it on the email when I went to look up my secondary status! I submitted about 10 days after that deadline. So should I consider wake out?

Crap, looks like I'm in the same situation as you. Didn't notice that line in the email until just now. I submitted mine like 4 days after the deadline. I really hope this doesn't screw us over!

Im not sure. But think of it this way. If a school gets ~4000 secondary applications for 500 interview spots, I would think that they would look for ways to narrow the field a bit...

I think it is :/ I recently received an email from them asking for documentation confirming that I will receive my graduate degree prior to potential matriculation at Wake Forest, and it blatantly stated at the end of the email that if they didn't received the required documentation within 3 weeks that they would withdraw my application from the applicant pool.

Don't know if this is a dumb question, but for the secondary where it asks for any connection to north carolina, would having relatives that live in north carolina count?

Depends how you can spin it to make it work. I left all those optional essays blank and got an interview. I have never even been to NC, or even a state that boarders NC... I feel in this area, unless you can talk about how YOU are tied, there is more harm to be done than good. Just my thoughts

The wait is killing me. I was placed on hold, before receiving a secondary, pending my MCAT score. I received the score on Sept 2 and still haven't heard anything. All my other secondaries are already submitted :/

On the other hand the wait is a blessing for anyone that has an II at a non rolling school.
For my thinking, 15 September is the half way point on a one year work effort.

I was in a similar situation, got mine about 3 weeks after my score came out! Don't stress (too much 😉)!

i got my new scores back mid august and i'm still waiting for a secondary :/

Does anyone know if there is a protocol for updating the Admissions Office after interviews?
There does not seem to be an option to send updates on the website. Perhaps email?
Thanks!

II just now! Complete 7/21, OOS, non-traditional, MCAT 30, GPA 3.5 lots of research + clinical experience

Edit: I think I was on hold first for about 2 weeks. Had the "your application is complete. Interviews will be held September through March" I forget the exact wording.

ahhh similar stats to you except complete 9/9...hoping for some good news soon 🙂
congratulations!!!!

Hey for anyone else interviewing 9/30, I'm flying into Charlotte (needed to fly Southwest) around 7 pm the night before and am going to rent a car and drive to Winston Salem. If you'd like to catch a ride/split the cost of the car/aren't a serial killer just message me. Thanks!

EDIT: Or I might fly into Raleigh-Durham that day around 5. Need to rent a car either way so just let me know if you're interested.

Secondary's are requested of about 35% of applicants and of those abut 10% are invited to interview. From what I can tell nearly everyone who interviews is granted an offer and the yield is about 30% - these are my notes and they came from "the best 168 medical schools" - 2012 data?

This information is considered incorrect by an actual student at Wake and their data is posted further down this thread. Not sure how to delete a comment and though incorrect according to a much better source, it is as published in what may be a worthless book 🙂

10% of the 35 % that are given secondaries are invited for an interview? Or 10% of all applicants are invited for an interview?

And I got a secondary a while ago. My stats are cGPA 3.93, sGPA 3.89, and MCAT 29 and OOS. Does my MCAT score pretty much knock me out of contention? I'm afraid it does :/

10% of the 35% - so Wake is somewhat unique in its approach, much closer to UCSF. Vanderbilt, Wake and UCSF are the outliers in how they sort and gather information form us. Wake ends up interviewing many less candidates but the investment by all parties in an interview is more likely to result in an invitation. Hopeful my fast research was right on this. Though I am confused with some posts which indicate an interview request essentially with the II, more like Vanderbilt. But not my experience (secondary request but no II). I am not claiming expertise on this by any means, caveat emptor, but this is what I think is true for Wake.

I am no adcom - just a humble applicant like you and on my first cycle too. I'd have said the same thing, assuming <30 as a hard line for Wake - yet this is a selective secondary and here you are, so there is something they see in you, keep the faith!
