hey guys! what did you write for the ties to Wake Forest question on the secondary? i went to school in North Carolina but not sure if i should state that directly or go off on more of a tangent and be more reflective. how long was most people's answer for this question?

MS1 here - When I interviewed last year, I had three faculty interviewers (which means no student interviewers), and about 15 minutes to talk to each. They had access to everything in my file except my GPA and MCAT, though one of them did ask me my MCAT score (which threw me off, haha). One of my interviewers talked to me extensively about my background and experiences in ways that demonstrated she'd read my file.

Wake Forest does use student interviewers. There are only a few student interviewers, and whether you'll have one or not depends on everyone's availability that day. On some days there won't be a student interviewer; other days there will be. At most, you'll have one student interviewer and two faculty interviewers. There is no way for you to know ahead of time if you'll have a student interviewer or not.

So is there a reason for 3 interviews? Does each interviewer focus on a certain area of the application? Are they conversational laid back or more stressed

The reason we use 3 interviewers is just so that we have more people that have had a chance to get to know you. You definitely don't want to show up for an interview and just not get along with one particular individual and then have that singular interview sink your application. Each interviewer will discuss just about anything with you - no one person is focused on a particular aspect of your application. The interviews are absolutely laid back; I would say Wake has an extremely low-stress interview environment.

That makes sense... Are first two years P/F? Any student run free clinics? Is there a dense Latino population in the surrounding area? As OOS w no ties I don't know what wake saw to invite me to interview haha hope I can't make it shine

Yes, the first two years are P/F. Wake has the DEAC clinic, which is a student-run free clinic, at which the MD students as well as our PA students volunteer. I don't think Winston-Salem is particularly dense with the Latino population. The population is mostly Caucasian or African American.

Is anyone else having trouble logging into the "status" portal? I am getting a perpetual

How long after submitting a secondary application should one expect to receive a complete email? I submitted early last week and have not received a complete email. Also, how can one go about checking the status of their application? My portal only provides a summary of my secondary application.

I submitted secondary 9/9 and was complete 9/24.
 
Does anyone have experience with using the PART and public transit to get back to the airport?

Alternatively, I would be okay splitting a taxi with anyone interviewing tomorrow if you're flying out of GSO! Just PM me!
 
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but where is everyone finding the information that there are 3 interviews? On their info page for interviews its very vague and just says "interviews"

A current student commented above that they use 3 interviews
 
I received a secondary a while ago... In early August and still haven't submitted. Is it worth it?

I submitted my secondary about 4 days after their 3 week deadline (which I did not originally notice since it was not prominently featured in the email - my own fault, but still, kind of annoying). Does anybody think it might be worth it to send them an email saying (in more formal language), "Hey, I recently realized I submitted the secondary a few days after the deadline. I'm really sorry, I love your school and really want to be considered for admission. Can you please not throw away my application?"

Can't hurt. I would hope that if they were going to be sticklers about the deadline they wouldn't let you submit and pay them the secondary fee.

It would not be prudent to point out your own weaknesses. Their men are currently overwhelmed with applications- it is likely that they overlook slight latenesses.

The more we bleed ourselves, the weaker we shall all be when the real enemy falls upon us.

Complete status email today. Received secondary on Sept 11, submitted Sept 17.

I lived in North Carolina for two years (just outside of Winston-Salem for 6 months) and would LOVE to go back for a while! Such a beautiful state!
 
MS1 here: I had the chance to talk briefly with a couple ladies from my home state who were interviewing on Friday - I was in the lab with a few of my friends, solidifying some last-minute anatomy before our first big exam on Monday. If you're out there reading this and you end up getting accepted, be sure to message me so I can congratulate you properly!

Since I'm procrastinating on studying (brain rapidly reaching information saturation, you know how it is), I wanted to also tell you all how awesome it is to be part of the Class of 2018 at Wake. Early on, our class developed a culture of collaboration and sharing. We're constantly posting resources we've found or created to our Facebook group. It's one thing to be like "I uploaded this review I found onto the Dropbox." It's another thing to spend an evening painstakingly crafting your own set of notes about our histology material, or your own Anki cards of the muscles, or your own BioDigitalHuman schematic of the material we're responsible for, and then turn around and post it for everyone's benefit. We even have a shared Google Doc with the learning objectives for each lecture, where people go and fill in their notes and practice questions. When I'm in the anatomy lab after-hours, I'm there with my friends, showing them what I understand well and learning from what they understand well, so we can all destroy our exams. It's, frankly, a fantastic feeling, and it greatly offsets the stress I feel when I'm two days behind on studying and feeling like I'll never get caught up. (Side note about stress: Earlier this week, I was feeling more stressed and overwhelmed than I'd felt in a really long time. Med school is intense! But then I caught up on my studying and feel way better, even with our exam less than two days away.)

A lot of this is just because of the personality of our class, but it's worth pointing out that the Pass/Fail curriculum definitely facilitates this atmosphere. Yes, we're eventually ranked (with the class rank being announced at the end of the second year), but I personally get a bigger kick out of supporting my classmates and being known as a helpful person than I'd get from jockeying for position among the class. Step 1 scores matter way more than class rank, anyway, right?

So with the first round of acceptances coming out in a couple weeks, I just wanted to say this: Regardless of where you end up matriculating, strive to be a collaborative and supportive class. It makes everything much better. And know that if you end up at Wake, you have at least one class above you that's setting this kind of tone. (Actually, at least two - Some members of the Class of 2017 are hosting two practice anatomy practicals for us this afternoon, which is SUPER nice of them and so appreciated.)
 
As one of surely's classmates and long time SDN lurker, I second everything she commented on, especially the collaboration part!

So I called about 4-ish weeks ago to inquire about my status and it was complete. Because I'm really interested in Wake and hoping for an invite; I'm thinking about calling them again since it's been stated in this thread that calling again after a decent amount of time is fine/actually encouraged. However, what should I ask? I know my status is complete; do I just ask that again or would that be really weird/off-putting? What should I say?
 
Flight got significantly delayed (I would miss the Interview) and called to reschedule. Now interviewing in November instead!

Yes, I was just about to come here and bring that up. I don't think I have a firewall that is interfering with my log in ability. Would it be okay for me to call Wake Forest anyways?

P.S. I dont know how you got that exact motion picture, but I am impressed.

I have since been able to log in, but not consistently. I suspect it has to do with a password filling program I use.

P.S. I used a technique called "copy & paste." 🙂

Seconded. I'm an OOS non-trad with strong ties to the area and would love to interview / attend at Wake. Having said that, my application is listed as complete and I have NO idea what I could say over the phone that wouldn't make me sound like begging...
 
Silly question...how do we see the status of our application?😕 When I log back on I just see my completed secondary, but I already got an email about being complete about 2-3 weeks ago

That is your status, likely. It won't change unless you've been granted an interview.. at least that's how mine was.

I'm OOS and not URM.

They didn't give me any dates. The email said "Because of the distance and the need for making travel arrangements in advance, please give us a call to schedule a mutually convenient date."

Unfortunately I don't think I'll be attending, though. The school is 9 hours away from me and I was recently accepted to PCOM which I loved on interview day. I'm still holding out on some MD schools closer to home but don't want to completely uproot my life if I have another option.

Good luck to you all! Hopefully my interview slot goes to one of you!
