2014-2015 Wake Forest University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I was accepted to a school that I am ecstatic to attend. They have a great program and wonderful opportunities, but a piece of me is still holding out for Wake. This place is my home and I am really hoping to receive an interview from them! Gotta keep hope!

Hey everyone, I am a North Carolina resident and I recently interviewed at Wake and I loved it. It was my first interview this cycle, and I really hope it works out. Does anyone have any advice/thoughts on how heavily the interview weighs in on the decisions process? I would be so happy to go to school here. They told us we may find out soon, by the end of the months (perhaps?) and I am worried and nervous but I did my best with the interview, I feel. Best of luck to everyone else! I hope it all works out for the best for us 😀

For those that sent update letters, did you send it to the [email protected] email or is there a tab/portal to upload these on that I have not seen?

I was instructed to send updates to that e-mail address ([email protected]) and submitted accordingly. Wake responded promptly each time with confirmation of receipt and attachment to application.

Are there any scholarships available (that are NOT need based) through wake med? I have been applying to some through organizations but hoping that there are some through wake that are not just based on merit. Thanks yall!

Where have you been able to find outside scholarships? I have only really been able to find any for either 2nd year onward or for primary care only. Thanks.

I posted about this very topic exactly one week ago. What, you don't read every word I write with rapt attention? I'm hurt... Haha.

I'm confused, though, because you ask for scholarships that are not based on need and then you say "not just based on merit." Was that a typo, or are you hoping for some non-need, non-merit, just-because scholarships?

ahhh so sorry! i guess they let in a lazy student 😛 and yeah, ones that we could write essays for and such. i have a friend who's applying to scholarships that are through a specific med school and that school sent them the applications for those scholarships. does that make sense? i was just curious to see if wake had anything similar

Not that I'm personally aware of, but I know our financial aid office is BEYOND helpful, so I'd recommend emailing them. I'm on mobile so I don't have their email address handy, but I bet you could google it pretty easily.

I'm trying to do some through my sorority/religious groups/stuff from my hometown. I'm literally googling "scholarships for graduate school for _____"

This has probably been answered already, but where does everyone usually stay the night before? Are there any hotel deals/ B&B places I should look at?

Wake's fin aid presentation put me off pretty bad.. They basically said its $51k for tuition and we don't give scholarships but u can go to fastweb.com and search aimlessly for some (as every institution of higher learning will tell you) oh and there's the army... Kind of a slap in the face to present your financial aid to potential students by saying to click on scholarships.com

I stayed at The Hawthorne. It's really close and convenient - they have a shuttle that brings you right to the medical center in the morning.

The Hawthorne and Holiday Inn are both close. The Holiday inn is actually 2-3 blocks down the road from the hospital (probably a 15 minute walk if you wanted to do it, but the area is not particularly walkable as there are large portions without a sidewalk and the admissions office is on the opposite side of the med center, which is large). The Hawthorne is about a 5 minute drive. It's located downtown, which is nice if you wanted to explore a little bit and wanted to grab something to eat (not that the Holiday Inn is far either, nothing is more than, maximum, 10 minutes away in Winston Salem)

arw results for January out today?
On my interview date they said they hope to get them out on the 26th but don't expect them till Tuesday...Also my friend didn't hear back till several days after the date they gave him.

Hasn't kept me from constantly checking my portal though!

ACCEPTED ABOUT 30 MINS AGO!
I first saw it on the portal got the email 5 mins later.

I AM SO EXCITED! I CAN'T WAIT TO VISIT FOR SECOND LOOK! I WILL VERY LIKELY GO HERE!
Congrats! What is the web address for the portal. The only one I seem to have just shows me my secondary application. Thanks!

Good afternoon! #Pathdocmd. I thought I would inquire to see if, at this point, the earlier mentioned March 20-21st dates for the Second Look Weekend are solid enough for planning purposes (i.e. making travel arrangements). Also, I was interested to know if it is appropriate for immediate family members to attend the events, such as accepted students' spouses. Thank you in advance for planning to offer this opportunity to get to know the area and school better!

The Second Look Weekend is March 20-21. The letter should go out soon. I would encourage spouses/ partners to come along.

Thank you for the fast response! My wife and I are looking forward to visiting.

Have any decisions been made for those who interviewed on the 16th?

That is our match weekend. The 4th years should be very entertaining that weekend.

Still very interested in my 'first look' day...does anyone have any idea how many interview days are open?

I am a July applicant but I haven't heard anything from WF. I have been sending updates whenever I can though...anyone one the same boat?
Not sure how many are left.. but when I scheduled mine last week.. they had every Mon-Thurs available for the whole month of February. So, i'm assuming there are a decent number of II slots left. Stay positive 🙂

Thanks so much! haha I've been trying to stay positive, but as we get closer to march it's getting much more difficult. That sounds promising though!

my relatives, current M2 at wake, and my tour guide M2 all mentioned that wake waitlists a lot and then has a lot of movement from their waitlist. About 30 students of their class came off the waitlist. I'm not sure the case entirely, possibly bc it would be difficult to make decisions without comparing all candidates or at least large batches. After 2weeks, it's not a huge group of people. The after interview day meeting that they have, they pretty much discuss and figure out who's waitlist, in, or out. So it's not a huge pool of comparison. Maybe that's why? It must be difficult to pick the "best" class without seeing everyone first.
