2014-2015 Wayne State University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I found the page on their website! I am SURE you will kill the interview!! Just think of all the practice you have had with Medical Schools! It sounds like they are very selective for their Post Bac program, huge congrats on the invitation to apply!!

I'm not sure if this was to me, but if it is thanks! Lol. It would be awesome to be accepted! I was referred to ABLE at CHM which is pretty much the same thing except you have to pay for the program. It's all covered at Wayne. Just hoping to hear some news at all soon. It's been a stressful year. I've been waiting since December to hear anything else and not knowing about any of them is unnerving. Being organized and having a plan is good for me, and I can't do that right now. Haha.

I was just offered a spot off the waitlist yesterday afternoon via email!! I hope many others get good news soon too!!

Congrats!!! Does anyone know if they will email waitlisted applicants that they are still waitlisted? Or do they only email waitlisted applicants if they are accepted?

They are not notifying us unless we get in, bummer, doesn't look good!!

BAD NEWS EVERYONE: I called Wayne, they had 8 positions to give out, and they sent the emails out on Friday.. They will offer again in two weeks if any of these 8 people drops their acceptance. (8 including both IS and OOS, and there are two separate lists for these wait-lists). Good luck to everyone

Wow, that is way less than I would have even imagined.

I know, HUGE bummer! I'm coming back for blood next year though. Does anyone know if we can call to find out what to improve on on our application?

They usually will do appointments to personally talk about your application once the cycle is over

I think it's more likely that they had 8 spots to give out, but could potentially give out more. There are almost definitely going to be some accepted students that drop spots as they get taken off of other waitlists.

I would like to think that too, scrubs14.. Just worried because I don't think much more movement will happen as April 30 was the "big" movement day. Admissions office didn't sound too hopeful.. But optimism is the best policy

Anyone on the waitlist mind sharing their stats?

3.8 34 IS

3.8 32 IS. Two years research. Three publications. With significant extracurricular activities (tutored for school, ta, hospital volunteer, as well as two social clubs).

Some ecs and so on.

Also yes, you can call to schedule an appointment. This Thursday I'm meeting with the assistant to the dean of admissions to discuss my application and the coming cycle. They're pretty good about making something work.

I just spoke with Wayne. They are unable to meet with anyone on the waitlist to discuss how to improve their application. Students must have been accepted or rejected to be able to meet with anyone at the school or associated with admissions. This puts us at a disadvantage, I plan on sending my aamc application in by June 15, so I will be unable to get feedback before then. They said they are keeping the waiting list open through July. What do you guys think about this?

Shoot. That isn't ideal!!

So this question is more for Detroit-ers or current students
I am coming from Out of State and wanted to bring a car(still figuring out new or used). I have been looking at insurance quotes and they are through the roof!!! What insurance company do you use and what is your year insurance premium(if you don't mind sharing).

Thanks in advance!

Have you tried geico?

Met with the assistant to the dean of admissions today about revising my application for next cycle. It was really helpful and she is available for phone calls as well, so if you find yourself off the waitlist, it's definitely worth talking to her or someone there for a little bit just to get perspective.

I am on the waitlist as well but really want to submit my AMCAS application for next cycle as soon as possible just in case I don't get the news I want from Wayne... does anyone know if this would automatically withdraw my application from Wayne State from this previous cycle and/or hurt my chances of becoming accepted still?

I called today too, found out that bradpitt was right, you can't have a meeting until they officially reject you... I am contemplating the same thing, dropping my app.

I wouldn't drop your app just to get a meeting with them. Maybe try to meet with the admissions committee of a different school you applied to, or even speak with your pre-med advising office. There's always a chance you could get accepted off the list.

It won't drop your application from this cycle if you start a new application on AMCAS.

Accepted off the wait list Friday!!! This is my dream school! Good luck to you all

For accepted students - have you been receiving any emails about required forms/documents, etc.? I haven't received any emails or information from them and it's making me a little nervous.

I got accepted on Friday and was told that it would be sent today. Haven't received it yet. It'll probably be sent later today

I haven't received any emails yet, but their website has a checklist that is pretty helpful. Looks like a lot of the forms are due at Orientation.

Thanks for the info Mack11 and Scrubs14 . For others who might be wondering, I did not receive any emails from them yet.

Just withdrew my app/ seat earlier this week in favour of a Canadian school - would have loved to attend but my bank account says otherwise. Hope one of the great candidates here get some good news soon! Good luck everyone!

Same here, all my documents/deposits went through so I have withdrawn 🙂

Good luck waitlisters!

When I called admissions 2 weeks ago they said that they were planning on sending out offers again at the end of this week. Hopefully we hear some good news today!

Hey everyone, I remember hearing a couple students asking about the post-baccalaureate program and whatnot. For those of you who have been referred, I'll be officially removing myself from the waitlist and consideration for the post-bac program at Wayne tomorrow. I was accepted at MSU CHM for their ABLE program and would just be happier there. Not sure if this will even matter for the waitlist students, but for the post-bac students it will as there are very few seats.

Good luck to everyone! For those having to re-apply, good luck as well!! I'm sure everyone will find their niche at some point! 😀

Should I buy an Apple or Windows laptop? Or should I continue using my 3 year old windows laptop from undergrad?

How important is a laptop at wayne?

As important as you want it to be. There are many available computers on campus to stream and study from. I would just keep rolling with what you have now until you have to make a change.

Anyone else heard anything about the post bacc program after the interview?

Hey everyone
I've been struggling to find a place within my budget of $5-600 a month including utilities. I was initially looking for a 1 bedroom in Midtown but haven't found any vacancies. Now, I'm exploring roommate options. Does anyone know of someone who already has a 2 or 3 bedroom place looking for an extra roommate? I'm in Detroit today (originally from Canada) so it'd be awesome to meet up with anyone who is looking for a roommate today. I know there's a roommate spreadsheet by wsu and I've been using it but I need more options as I don't think many post on it. Thanks in advance! 🙂
