2014-2015 West Virginia University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hello, I am an out of state applicant, and just received an acceptance letter to WVU school of med yesterday. This school is great, and although interview day is long, it was well worth it. The day consisted of a tour of the school, a 30min interview, and a great lunch along with some other talks with alumni. The interview itself goes by really quickly; I was interviewed by two doctors at once; one of the MDs was the director of admissions I think. I was also able to stay with a host in morgantown which was really nice, and we went out to dinner after my interview. I really like morgantown and the community in west virginia -- everyone is very friendly and relaxed, since the curricula is pass/no pass.

Hope that gives you some insight.
Best of luck!
Congratulations!! Did you receive the acceptance via email or regular mail? Also, did you have any IS ties?

II! For the interview broker, underneath the calendar, it makes you choose am or pm. Does it really matter? I thought all the interviews are in the afternoon.

It doesn't matter. Everyone interviews in the afternoon after lunch and the tour. The order was random.

I wish everyone nothing but the best! Truth is, WVU isn't my top choice since it is OOS for me. However, if it were my only acceptance, I would still be happy to go there. WVU really impressed me that much on my interview day. Here's to all of us hopefully getting at least one acceptance in the next few days!

This is definitely my top choice, even thought I'm OOS as well. I was so impressed on interview day and I loved Morgantown. I had a heart attack when I got the email with the subject line "status." I thought it was a rejection because it was so short! Waiting on pins and needles for the letter to arrive...wish the mail came on weekends!

We will get thru this together. I hope you do get accepted by your top choice. 🙂

Another OOS waitlist. It's going to be a long wait.

I still haven't received my letter yet, but I'm in St. Louis, so it will take a little longer. Anyone else here who is OOS and got accepted besides @River Charles?

I haven't gotten my mail yet either.. :/ Sucks coz my interview went very well.

WL for me, second year in a row. Not sure how the wait list works since it's not ranked though? Does it go by interview date?

I used to be confident and optimistic, but then I took a waitlist letter to the knee......

Sorry y'all. It was the first bad joke I could think of for this situation.

@pink/\floyd and @Rinya, please be the combo breaker!

I'd be more than happy to do that! Still waiting on my letter...maybe in the mail today! Expecting WL though... When will the mail arrive?!

Annnnd I just read the rest of the thread haha. Looks like they're doing something new this year. Don't fret about the waitlist. Most people are put on it. I'd bet at least half my class was on the waitlist. Just send in 2-3 updates over the year and hold out for May. All hope is not lost! 🙂

At least one in my class wasn't accepted off wait list until July. Several others (who are doing really well in school) didn't get accepted off of the wait list until June. If you're wait listed, don't worry. It can still happen, and being wait listed is not a determiner for how well you'll do once you do get into med school.

And I agree about updates. It's not too late to do things (or continue doing things) like community service and research or getting hands on practical medical work experience that boost your paperwork and let the school know that A) you're still pursuing medical school and becoming even more prepared and B) that you want to go to their school.

do they send ii's by mail as well?
IIs are via email. If you filled out your secondary, you should be receiving one shortly after. If not, you can email and confirm whether they received all your material.

Does anyone know if they reject OOS applicants post-interview or do they just accept a few and wait list the rest?

And update. Waitlisted. OOS so it was expected. Praying they might take people off the Waitlist before March though!

All of these OOS waitlists are very discouraging. 🙁
I'm hoping I have a chance since I grew up in WV and did undergrad at WVU.

also OOS waitlist - anyone know if rejection letters were sent out also? also, when is the earliest we can hear back about the wait list?

I'm pretty sure straight out rejections are really rare. Almost everyone not accepted is put on the waitlist. You could technically get off the waitlist at any time, but in years past the large majority of movement was in May with some trickling in the rest of the year. Good luck everyone!

Anyone else interviewing on 10/30??

Also does anyone have any tips for this interview?

This was my most laid back and conversational interview even though it was with two interviewers at once. No ethical or ACA questions. My interviewers just elaborated what was on my AMCAS application and I was done in about 15 minutes. Don't sweat!

THIS. Don't worry too much, they seem to WL everybody anyway lol. But seriously, there is nothing to worry about. 🙂

Can confirm both these statements.

about to withdraw my interview thats this friday, hope it goes to one of you folk!

I got the email saying that my letter will come in within 3-5 days. Hopefully I can break the waitlist streak lol.

Welp, got rejected (that's too strong of a word haha). Good luck to everyone else!

Sorry to hear that. I guess this does answer the previous question of "do they actually reject post-interview?" though. I'm sure I'll be joining you soon, mate.

Hello, For everyone who has already interviewed, what time did you guys arrive at the student services office?

I arrived a half hour early, but I was the first one there. Everyone else arrived around fifteen minutes early.

What time was that? I can't seem to find the email at the moment so I was hoping one of you could tell me.

My email said to be there by 10:15. I think I had a pm interview; I'm not sure what the difference between the am and pm times were.
