Anyone want to share their interview experience that has visited so far?
This was the worst interview experience I have had thus far. The school facilities are not impressive. They don't bother to even show you the cadaver lab. They also "show" you the hospital, but you have to stand outside the entrance of every department because there are patients in there. You never meet the dean, and there is no presentation about the school or the curriculum. Also, the food they give you sucks. You basically spend the day sitting in a board room with the other applicants.

Sorry to hear that. I had a wonderful experience about a month ago. I could totally live and study there for 4 years if I don't get into my top choice instead. I didn't mind being stuck in a room with the other candidates. I liked talking with them and seeing where everyone was coming from.

Wow different experiences for everyone. I guess I will go and find out for myself. It looks like a nice lazy town to practice in. The post-interview acceptance rate is what is most disappointing to me, especially since traveling is so expensive.

Besides information about the curriculum which I agree they should definitely have, none of the things you mentioned are very important. You only spend 4 months in the cadaver lab of 4 years. Trust me, the rooms aren't anything special and they shouldn't be because who cares? It's 4 months. We as med students very rarely see the dean either. That doesn't mean this isn't a great school. There's not a lot to med school besides studying 24/7 the first two years so honestly none of this matters at all. I understand that WVU may not look at pretty as other schools, but definitely consider things beyond that when making a decision on which school to attend!

My interview experience was a bit different. Yeah, the food sucked, and the facilities don't look very sexy. However, I am looking for a school where I can fit in, be happy, and do well on the boards. WVU appeared to be one of those schools, and I would be thrilled for an acceptance.

No don't get me wrong! I believe it is a great school, and the students seemed really happy! I just feel like my interview experience was just okay. I just think they should interview less students and only have 1 or 2 interviews a week, so that they can really give the interviewees a great experience there. At the end of the day, that's just my opinion which doesn't matter at all hahaha

I absolutely loved my interview day. The med students who showed us around were excited about WVU and we got to go all around the hospital, and I loved the SIM lab! Everyone was so nice on the admissions committee and we met the Dean and the heads of other departments. I absolutely loved the school and the curriculum and I could definitely spend the next 4 years here.

Everyone should go to the school (that they get accepted to) that works best for them. A friend of mine has a friend who just started at a downtown Philly medical school this year. They were given fake wallets during orientation so they could give them away if they were mugged. I'm very happy in a relaxed, rural/suburban medical school with wonderful, supportive faculty and students. Whether it looks 21st century or 20th century, this is the best school for me. You just have to know what will help you become the best doctor you can be.

It's less lazy than you think!

Wow. Just got a rejection email a few minutes ago. I'm heartbroken.

I got a rejection e-mail as well. I am pretty surprised considering I am a WV resident with above average GPA/MCAT, want to practice medicine in a rural area, and have a husband who works for the hospital system. Want to know the funny part? They misspelled "preliminary" in the subject of the e-mail. I will take that as a sign! Haha Since the rejection, I have interviewed at better schools, so I suppose it just wasn't meant to be!

I know! I was pleasantly surprised 🙂
Sorry to hear about the rejection and GL with the rest of your schools!!
I really enjoy living in Morgantown. It can get a little crazy and traffic can be awful during the school year, but it is a fun place to be.

Thank you! I am feeling confident that I will get into my top choice! Fingers crossed!

I am sure you will 🙂

So nervous waiting for Wednesday... I thought my interview went well...hoping for an acceptance! I loved Morgantown and I would love to go there!

I wish everyone nothing but the best! Truth is, WVU isn't my top choice since it is OOS for me. However, if it were my only acceptance, I would still be happy to go there. WVU really impressed me that much on my interview day. Here's to all of us hopefully getting at least one acceptance in the next few days!

If anyone is interviewing and needs help navigating Morgantown or needs hotel/restaurant/bar/shopping help, let me know! I live in Morgantown. 😀

For those who have interviewed, does anyone know if we can expect a phone call, e-mail, or letter in the mail soon regarding decisions?

Is there any chance that someone with a 12/19 interview date is planning on changing/canceling? I live a few hours away from WVU and could just drive there on that date since I'll be home for winter break rather than having to dish out $300 for a flight in February. I'm the first person on the wait list for 12/19 and I called WVU to see if they could squeeze me in but they said there was nothing they could do :sorry:

I interviewed in early September. If I remember correctly, we should get something via snail mail soon.

No call or email?? I guess I should have clarified with them before I frantically checked emails all morning and made sure my phone was on haha. They said it would be snail mail? I remember at my September interview they said to expect to hear on the 15th...

I thought that they had changed their method of notifications to e-mail starting this year. But that's just what I thought I heard 😛

I could have sworn they told us we would find out via snail mail, but those later in the cycle would find out via email. I could be completely wrong though.

I never actually specifically asked if it would be a call, or an email, or snail mail! I should have asked haha...I am questioning my memory now but I could have sworn she said they'd get back to us October 15!

I hope I'm wrong. It would make me happy to find out today.

If I remember correctly from my interview, I think they said acceptances will go out via email and waitlists/rejections will go out via snail mail. I remember thinking that was weird though so I could be wrong.

Haven't heard back, so it guess that means I was not accepted...

I wouldn't say that's true necessarily...n=1 for someone getting accepted and I was pretty sure it was snail mail no matter what. Maybe I'm just hopeful but I'd like to see more than one person (who has only 1 post), to say they got an email.

Sorry for being so vague guys. I was just really excited. The email stated that I would be getting a notice via snail mail as well. And don't worry so much...today was the first day they could say anything regarding acceptance I believe.

Congrats! When did you interview, and are you IS or OOS?

I got an email letting me know I was accepted earlier today.

Ah so I probably wasn't accepted. Hopefully wait list at least... Snail mail? Really? 😛 And this is my top choice!

OOS, interview was 9/25...

It's snail mail until much later in the season. I did EDP and they said we'd "hear back" on the 1st, after waiting all day for the mail, no letter. I called and they said they just had to send them out by the 1st. That's probably what's going on with you guys. They probably sent them out today and they will be there in a day or two depending on how far you live from Morgantown. Hang in there, I know how much it sucks to wait even more!

Annnnd I just read the rest of the thread haha. Looks like they're doing something new this year. Don't fret about the waitlist. Most people are put on it. I'd bet at least half my class was on the waitlist. Just send in 2-3 updates over the year and hold out for May. All hope is not lost! 🙂

Thanks for the response and reassurance! I'm definitely hoping for the waitlist now!

Do you happen to know if they accept people off the waitlist around Thanksgiving or Christmas? Or do they hold off on waitlisted people until April or May? That's such a horrendously long wait! I thought I heard that some schools pull from waitlists before the round of interviews in January and on but I might be wrong...

So are we assuming that if we didn't get an e-mail today that it's a rejection or wait-list?

I'm assuming that it's rejection or wait list right now. I'm playing around with the idea of e-mailing BethAnn and asking for more information on how they release this information...as well as when. Today was so insanely nervewracking.

From years past, the waitlist movement is almost exclusively after May 15 or a few days before that with the exception of a few people. It's obviously not impossible and they seem to be changing things this year, but based on the past three cycles I wouldn't expect any waitlist movement until February-ish and after that they will trickle very slowly until May 15th. It's a long wait, but it's worth it! And like I said they're changing things up so none of this could be right anymore haha

Just got an e-mail saying that a letter has been sent out today. Considering that there was no mention of "acceptance", I dread that I should be expecting a "waitlist" or "rejection" letter. Oh well, I am an OOS applicant so I would be more than happy with a waitlist! Goodluck to everyone else!

Same, I just got that email also!

Same... I am more than happy with Waitlist since it's my top school.

Mountaineer12: thanks! That's unfortunate but I understand why they do it. It's the best I can hope for being OOS!
