2015-2016 Central Michigan University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I haven't had any communications with [email protected]. Either he or she is purposely sabotaging you, or he or she made a small typo. 🙂

I believe it's [email protected] (admit instead of admin).

Haha I realized it was the incorrect email when I received an email back saying the email failed to send. I then called CMED admissions directly and they provided me with the email you just said! I don't think he/she was trying to sabotage. Honest mistake 🙂

I'm thinking the same. Like most others have said, I think most movement will start after April 30th. Hoping for the best for you guys!

CMED scholarships/aid packages are also not inclusive of community scholarships, nor of any of the NHSC (civilian) or HPSP (military) awards, so more folks might be getting aid that aren't reflected in the CMED packages...

Im sorry guys that was a typo. I work with computers a lot and the word admin comes up a lot haha.

The admissions committee met this morning in order to rank the wait-list. I was told they took into consideration the extra material people sent in over the weekend. I was also told that the committee is not going to meet again, so once the waitlist is ranked it is pretty set. Once they get a feeling for how many spots are left on April 30th, they will start sending out new acceptances. This should be in the first week of May.

Thank you for informing us. Did they by any chance say that they will let us know about our ranking if so when? today ? Or they wouldnt share that information?

i have been running up and down the corridor of my very small apartment for the last half hour and have been unable to post this, and when I finally calmed down, my internet was down.. but I JUST GOT ACCEPTED OFF THE WAITLIST. Had to make sure I wasn't dreaming! First acceptance of the cycle. I am too excited right now.

Everyone, hang in there. Good news is on the way for those on the waitlist!

Thanks! I am in-state (I think, I've been in Michigan for the past 8 years), interviewed in November, placed on regular waitlist in early Dec. I just woke up to 3 emails, no call. Fingers crossed for you, buddy!

Please excuse me, I'm going to run around my apartment in excitement some more.

i was accepted today. I am still waiting for an interview decision from another medical school. is the contract they sent us to sign binding?

After April 30, you can hold only one acceptance but as many waitlists as you have. If you are accepted somewhere else, you then need to withdraw your acceptance here if you choose the other school. You can do this until we matriculate, at which point no other school can accept you (prevents schools from having empty seats in their class).

At least, that's how I understand it all.

Did anyone in the waitlist try calling the admission to see if they would tell us our ranking in the waitlist? I dont know if I should be expecting a good movement or not this year any information you could share is greatly appreciated! I guess we will find out soon enough tho.

I emailed admissions last week asking how and when they rank the waitlist. I was told that they will never rank the waitlist. After April 30th applicants will receive offers as they receive withdrawals and have open spots. They are continually reevaluating their incoming class list. The only example she gave was if they lose 3 OOS applicants they will reevaluate to see if they need to replace those 3 OOS applicants or maybe their class needs more IS applicants. She really stressed that the waitlist is not ranked.
To me it sounds like they don't rank it because they want to manipulate the incoming class' characteristics/stats as applicants turn down acceptances. Not having a ranked waitlist must give them some flexibility in selecting students based on characteristics other than just numbers (MCAT/gpa). Those are just my thoughts and speculations. After receiving that email I decided it was best to sit tight and try to relax.

Thanks for sharing this information! Wow thats contrary to what was posted here before. Quite frankly I was surprised to hear that they started ranking the waitlist since I was told the same thing you just said. I guess thats fair then. Relaxing part is getting tougher and tougher tho! Wishing everyone good luck coming Monday !

Congratulations to all who were accepted into this wonderful school. I am looking forward to your happiness as I had to withdraw today. Best of luck and I am looking forward to being your colleague in this wonderful state 🙂

Congratulations on your acceptance in this cycle do you mind sharing if you r IS OOS or Canadian ? Thanks for sharing and wish you the best of luck in your career as a DOCTOR

Will be withdrawing my acceptance shortly (along with my $30,000 scholarship offer). Its a bittersweet day as I truly believe CMED will be a great program in the future as I was very impressed with their program as a whole. I wish the best of luck to those currently accepted and to those currently on the waitlist.

Those of you who were accepted off the waitlist, when did you get their Email ? Cuz it seems like they only send them in the morning ! I want to know so I dont have to neurotically check my email and be stressed all they 9 to 5 lol. Still waiting to hear some good news I feel like I aged 10 years in the past couple of days 🙁. Also so many people have been accepted off the watlist that I dont even know if there is any hope. Wishing for a miracle at this point.:arghh:

I got mine at around 9:30 am, but my friend got his at like 2PM ish.

Accepted off the regular waitlist earlier today. I've already accepted a spot at MSUCOM and have finished basically all pre-matriculation tasks. I have a huge decision to make in the next 10 days

Congratulations on your acceptance! Just wondering as a fellow waitlistee, do the acceptances from this point forwards give you a specific time frame that you must accept?

^ might as well stick with msucom, both are schools that are going to produce physicians for primary care, and msucom is a top school for that.

I had to make the same decision and I haven't looked back since. That being said, it was super tough to choose at the time. Either way, you can't lose. They're both great schools. Good luck!

This is what i'm thinking. Even if I end up wanting to specialize, Michigan controls a large portion of what are now AOA residencies (that are not going to abandon DO's after 2020) and is likely the state with the lowest DO stigma IMO
I had an opportunity to interview at MSUCOM and I had to decline because I couldn't afford the trip. I regret not going because recently learned about their DO-Phd program which would have really liked. I don't know if I would have been able to transfer from an DO applicant to DO-Phd but it might have been worth it for me.

I was accepted to both as well but chose central due to their curriculum and how new the school is...either place is great though!

I'd like to know this too! This is my only WL so starting to get pretty nervous for the prospects.
