2015-2016 Drexel University Application Thread

It takes a year to submit (never ending loading bar)

That's fine...this one is in the back of the queue for me currently, have about 3 ahead of it lol...Hopefully will be resolved by time I am ready to submit last week.

Should I just go at this all at once and not bother saving? Or does it time out and not submit/save nothing?

Also received a secondary and submitted today-- OOS, verified 7/1.

Did this app in an hour-- no essays unless you are a re-applicant. Maybe do this one first if the others require lengthy essays??

I did not save throughout-- did it all in one pass. It was a bit nerve wracking when the loading bar was taking forever after I submitted. Thought I could lose it all, but it turned out okay!

Thanks! I tried to save just after the first part to see how slow it was and sure enough it was terrible...

Still waiting on secondary. But it's okay I still have a ton to finish after getting them all on Friday (verified thurs)

Mines does. Just submitted 2 minutes ago lol
After submitting the secondary real physical people have to put each person's file together. They receive upwards of 10,000 applications coupled with their online secondary issues this could take a few days. I wouldn't worry

I wasn't worried out of impatience, I was worried because it says "incomplete" and the list of things required at the bottom of the page says "committee letter" with nothing received, despite me marking that I'm sending individual letters (school doesn't have committee) and they should have been received a month ago.

The letters section was the last one to be updated on my status page. (I also submitted individual letters.) I submitted three days ago and was complete when I checked this morning, so I wouldn't worry!

That's weird that it says a committee letter is required, but I wouldn't worry about them saying that they haven't received your letters because most schools don't go into the AMCAS and download letters until they have received your secondary (aka, they probably had access to them a month ago, but they didn't actually go retrieve them when they were granted access).

OOS, just received the secondary! I'm going to try to submit it when I get off of work today.

I finally got this one submitted, and I am now completely finished with secondaries. Thank goodness!

still no secondary. submitted first day of june in terms of my amcas. anyone else?

Wont even let me sign in...after copying and pasting the ID and PIN they gave me :0

YES submitted on the first try. So many checkboxes...

Were there any secondary prompts that you had to write essays for?

Drexel does not have any essays or prompts, besides "has your education been continuous" and I think a prompt for if you graduated more than 6 months ago.

On the secondary, it says that January MCATs are not acceptable... does anyone know what this means exactly? Does this mean just this past year? Or all January MCATs are no accepted?

^Yes that would be preposterous if they didn't accept all January MCATs haha. They just mean that January 2016 is too late in the cycle to be sending in scores.

For anyone who wrote the post-grad prompt, how much did you write? a paragraph? I don't see a character limit...

I wrote a short paragraph for each of the things I have done since graduating. Probably 150 words total.

I must be the only person constantly checking the status of my application. Silly me 🙁

If you had a gap year did you put "yes" or "no" to the question Has your education to date been continuous?

A continuous education is one where you went from high school to college and didn't have to take any semesters/time off in the middle of your highschool/college career.
If you took time off AFTER graduating from college (and before matriculating into med school), that's considered different from a continuous education. (lmk if that doesn't make any sense and I'll try to explain it better...)

Is it ok to include lab courses (which includes error analysis) to fulfill the stats competencies?

I would say no. If you're taking a gap year then your education to date hasn't been continuous.

I'm not sure what to do with this either. I feel like the answer should be "yes" because your education was continuous until you graduated. There's also a prompt asking for what you've done if you graduated >6 months ago. If this is the case, it seems that taking one gap year (i.e. graduating 3 months ago) doesn't require an explanation which also seems odd.

I answered no because I took several years off after graduation before I started taking post-bacc courses to finish the premed requirements. I think If you complete your degree and take a standard gap year or less you should answer yes that question, but answer the question about what you have done since graduation. But, it might be best to contact drexel for clarification if you are unsure.

For question 2, I said that my education was continuous. Other than summer/official breaks, I did not take time off from school. This question asks about any breaks during your education ie. if you had to take a semester off or leave school for some time before coming back to complete your degree.
For question 3, I gave details about my gap period since graduation since I've been out of school since 2014. This question asks about your activities since graduation ie. gap period.

Question, for the English competency, did you guys include your foreign language classes in addition to your English writing and language classes?

Cause it says, "English Language/Writing Skills (ENGL). A successful applicant must be competent to fluently write, speak, and read the English language. Proficiency in other languages is valued."

I did include foreign language courses in that category. No clue whether that was the right decision, though...
