2015-2016 Medical College of Wisconsin Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hi WC-Thanks again for your input. I am way, way old (43). I just added it to my AMCAS (verified back in June) so hopefully I will get a secondary and then I can figure out if I can apply to both 4 year in Milwaukee (which it seems I am much more suited to) and 3 year in Green Bay. But if I have to choose I think I will choose 4 year in Milwaukee--it doesn't seem worth the money for the fee in my case to try to convince someone I am suited to serving the rural underserved--everything in my track record is about the urban underserved.

I still have not received a secondary. I received secondaries from almost every school and should have met any minimum criteria. I submitted my primary on day 1. Anybody else waiting? Should I call?

Saw 'Secondary applications are by invitation' on the website for milwaukee campus, is there a prescreen or no?

There isn't. I think they meant they will be sending a URL so that's an invitation...

I don't understand. Should I have access to a secondary already? I have received nothing.

Same I think lots of people are experiencing this so don't need to worry...yet :yeahright:

What, no FAP waiver for secondaries? 🙁(((

e. nvm, gotta contact the admissions dept for a promo code.

From the website...
"we prepare medical students to become the best physicians of tomorrow with a spirit of continuous learning and the skills to adapt to whatever may come next in medical discoveries and best practices, as well as in the business side of practicing medicine. Tomorrow’s healthcare starts here, at MCW, where the student experience balances the latest technology and team-based learning models with more than a century of rich medical education traditions. An MCW medical education is a life-changing journey for our students, and for the patients whose lives they touch."

Regarding the bolded portion, how does MCW accomplish this? Is it something the school prides itself on?

I'm not sure what they mean by "the business side." If they are talking about billing, insurance, etc, it would say that is hardly touched upon at least for the first two years. As you start clerkships, you learn a bit here and there from the residents about what you can bill for depending on the type of patient visit, number of systems reviewed, length of visit, etc. Sorry if that's not too helpful..

Why do I still not have a secondary? Anybody else waiting or know what the deal is?

Submitted 7/4 still lor missing even tho verified 6/12 and amcas had letters.

same boat--application for supplemental says 1/2 received (still missing LORs even though its been weeks)

+1, complete 7/4 (I think? Around that time?), letters available to them from day 1. What is happening? Has anyone called recently? IIRC, someone called a week and a half ago and they were told the problem was with their primary, not MCW's secondary system.

Neither my letters or MCAT have been uploaded, I'm getting a bit irritated. My letters have been available to them for a month, and I took the May 22nd MCAT. It seems like a lot of people are having the LOR problem, but am I the only one with the MCAT problem? My scores have been available for almost a month.

Same here. Submitted 7/05 and still waiting for my LORs to be uploaded. I called the admissions office a few days ago, and she said it's normal and to stay patient...🙂

Nah I have the MCAT issue too, took it the same day as you did. Weird cause my letters of rec actually have been uploaded

So relieved to see I am not the only one who is 1/2 complete. This is one of my top choices

I guess we should all just sit tight unless one of us hears otherwise. Sounds like they know there is an issue or it is just taking longer than we would have expected.

Letters and MCAT received. Didnt get a conformation or anything but all the boxes are checked off so I guess that means I'm good to go. Submitted 7/4

submitted amcas on the first day, still hasnt gotten secondary from here

according to last year, movement happens in early-mid august if you submit in july.

:3

this was the first secondary I submitted (7/4) and it still says 1/2 but I guess it's just the nature of the beast. Hopefully our patience pays off

Really weird, my letters arrived 7/14. Idk why you guys aren't "complete" yet.

I'm really worried that I applied to all 3 campuses. Ultimately, I'd like to work in a rural WI town and have lived my entire life in central WI. I like the smaller campuses focus on communities as I find that important. However, I was looking at the curriculum and was wondering how we are supposed to be competitive for any non-primary care fields without any electives? I don't know what I want to go into yet, but I definitely don't want to close off any fields right now. I'm sure some people know they want to do primary care but after talking to so many doctors over the years, entering medical students change their desired field a lot. I realize their goal is PCP focused but I certainly don't want to close off any fields right now. This wouldn't be a problem, but I see from last year's thread that they had combined interviews for both campuses. Now I just sunk my chances at Milwaukee too?

I submitted my secondary today but it says 1/2 incomplete for me as well. I'll probably call tomorrow. I'll let everyone know what I find out. Honestly, I'm not too worried considering that most everyone is having the same problem.

I already called. They said they have way too many applicants and the processing is taking too long.

M1's here at GB have been told that a 4th year in Milwaukee with additional rotations/research/exploration of other options is possible. Of course, the 1st class is 2 years away from having to make that decision, but that is what we've been told. I think most of us are fine with 3 years and a couple less electives. I would say that don't let fear of being stuck in a primary care track keep you from considering one of the regional campuses; on the flip side, think long and hard about it if you would come into the program set on taking a 4th year right from the start. Our Dean recognizes that yes, things change, and he'd rather have us pursue a field we're passionate about if it comes down to it.

Thanks for the info. I think it probably wouldn't be a good fit for me so I'll just focus on Milwaukee as I can still do the community pathway there!

Hey guys, I just had a quick question about the social science prerequisites. I had accidentally misread the AP credit policy and didn't realize that they do not accept AP credit for the social sciences prerequisites. I was just wondering if the social science prerequisites are only limited to sociology and psychology, meaning can other social science or humanities be included? (like philosophy, etc.)

Also, If I have obtained AP credit for psychology, can this requirement be fulfilled by another psychology class (it is a psychology class taught by the psychology department) I've taken or is exclusive only to psychology and sociology? My dilemma is that I have received AP credit for psychology, did not take sociology but have taken another psychology course from the department at my school.

I've emailed them and called them and left a message but have yet to hear back. I think they are too swamped with applications. If any of you guys can help, I would greatly appreciate it! I am done with my secondary but have not submitted it due to this dilemma. I don't want to waste money only to find out that I did not meet the prerequisite requirements.

I submitted my secondary on 7/12.. They still have not received my letters... My email has gone unanswered.. Starting to freak out. Anyone else experiencing this problem?

I submitted July 3rd and my letters are still not there. I think everyone is in the same boat- there is clearly something going on on their end so don't freak out! It's still early and I'm sure it will be sorted out soon.

Alright, at least I'm not alone. Let us know when yours are "received" !

My recs were received (submitted 7/15). However, I called them for an unrelated reason and they were very responsive and friendly-- if they aren't getting back to your e-mails, try calling the admissions office?

Just kidding. Wrong thread. For MCW, I submitted 7/1 and STILL 1/2 complete. I e-mailed twice. They told me to hang tight.

yep, me too :/. I have a feeling they weren't prepared when they sent out the secondaries on the first day... oh well, at least we are all in the same boat!

Are most of you guys applying to MCW in or out of state?

Just curious.

Interesting. I'm in state. If I may ask, why MCW? 😛

Exciting news!! I called the admissions office to ask about my letters of rec, she looked my application up and said that the letters were indeed received, the website simply does not indicate this.
So if you guys are really nervous, call them and they'll give you more up-to-date info.

OOS hoping for the best, what are the average stats for accepted students for MCW?

I'm OOS, applying to MCW because I'm from Chicago so it's close to home, plus I spent a lot of time in Wisconsin during my childhood, visiting family and on vacations and whatnot.

Sent my secondary on 7/14 and it is still 0/2 for me. I sent email two days ago and haven't heard back from them, so maybe I will call?
