2015-2016 Pennsylvania State University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I received a pre interview hold about a month ago. Does anyone know What the chances are of getting a II after a hold ( at this particular school)?

Haven't heard anything back since being complete on Sept. 1st. Wonder if I'm out of the running.

Same here, nothing at all for me since being complete in August. They probably just lost my application .

You can also take the AMTRAK from Philly to Harrisburg and then take the Uber from there to Hershey, which will cost you $29-34 (for me, on the way to Hershey was $34 and on the way back to Harrisburg was $29). There's also an ongoing sale for Amtrak right now (I think tickets are going for $28 or less).

Put on hold today. Btw for those traveling to Hershey from far away, I'm from the area and I have an idea for you. You could fly into philadelphia bc it's a bigger airport, take the train to 30th street station which is super easy to navigate with Google maps and costs like $5 cash, take a megabus from there to Harrisburg which costs like $5-15 and then when you get there, Harrisburg has uber. I don't know how much it would be to get to Hershey but Hershey is like 10-15 minutes away from the megabus stop at the Harrisburg mall. The whole journey from Philly to Harrisburg should be like 3 hours or less so it's not that big of a hassle to save money. Good luck to everyone!

If traveling to Hershey using the AMTRAK, you might want to consider getting off at Middletown. It's a little closer than Harrisburg.

Would anyone like to share a brief description of the interview day?

Penn State was probably my favorite interview that I went on. The whole day was very laid back. There are two groups: one interviews first thing in the morning(starting at 8 maybe?) and the other interviews at the end of the day (what I did). There is a curriculum/basic info presentation at 11:00 to start the day (check-in is at 10:15), then lunch with medical students. After, you go on a tour of the Hershey Medical Center with a volunteer. The one who took my group was super energetic and kept my attention the whole time. I had an afternoon interview, which I liked because I learned a lot about the school and had good questions to ask after. I think I was done around 3:30.

My interviewers were very friendly and genuinely interested in the things I had done. I had a great conversation with both of them, no grilling on ethics/trap questions or anything like that. Just go in and be yourself and you will be fine!

Thank you for your reply! I recently interviewed here and had a fantastic experience, very similar to yours. I'm hoping I get the good news a month from now!

Question for those of you accepted here - how long did it take to receive the acceptance letter after the additional info tab appeared?

Put on hold today post-interview :/ received an email right now. Interviewed the end of October. UGHHHH

What's the longest post-interview decision so far? It's been 8 weeks since my interview and still nothing 🙁

About a week for me. I know for some others it took like 10 days.

Been complete since mid-August. No pre-interview hold or rejection emails. Just silence. Should I just count this as a silent rejection?? 🙁

This may have been asked already but I am too busy/lazy to search the thread, but is the interview closed/open/semi-open file?

Same here. I'm sure they have viewed my file once but are waiting to see what the applicant pool looks like before making a decision.

For those of you accepted - did you guys send in your $100 deposit along with your acknowledgment of acceptance form? or just the form?

Anyone interview in November and have an "additional information" tab?

I just submitted the form. I was worried about it, so I called the office, and she told me "Just have the deposit in by April 31st", and that you do not need to include the deposit with the acknowledgement

I was told by an admissions staff that even if we win a nobel prize, they won't be able to learn about it until after May.

Woah really? But on the other hand, the nobel prize winner most likely won't even care to update, but withdraw his/her app. and then build their own med school with the prize money. jk but really though

I interviewed 10/28 and got an additional info tab last Friday 12/4! Nothing in the mail yet though.. Patiently waiting (just kidding I'm basically watching the mailbox 24/7)
Congrats!!! Ahhh it is getting closer to us November people! Fingers crossed!! Mind sharing your stats and complete date?

Wow that's good to know! I guess I'll keep my Nobel Prize to myself! Thanks for the response

Nice. Thanks! We have similar stats and dates. Keep us posted when you get your happy package in the mail!

I interviewed 10/9 and got an additional info tab 4 weeks ago, but still nothing in the mail. Should I be concerned?

Exact same dates for me. I assumed I was accepted but haven't heard anything yet. Called today and they said they couldn't tell me anything. Frustrating
I would not be.
I just got my letter today. Interviewed 10/5, additional info tab 11/13, letter dated 12/04, and I got the letter 12/11.
I guess the further along you are in the cycle the longer it takes. But be patient and hopeful, as I was 🙂
