2015-2016 Rutgers University - RWJMS Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yes. "High priority alternate list." Interviewed Feb. 1. They told me that they would have accepted me straight through had they not overbooked last year/had they received my application earlier. I was surprised because I thought I bombed the RWJ interview... literally thought it was my worst interview out of all 5.

Haha you couldn't have bombed it if you got placed on the high priority list. Did you send any updates or LOI after you were waitlisted?

I did not send any updates or LOI.

Ha - I really thought I did bomb it, though! At my other two MMIs, my interviewers quite often cracked smiles or nodded as I spoke. Here, all the interviewers were stone-faced and I felt like a super babbler by the expressions they were making. I felt that one station went particularly awkward and that it was filled with uncomfortable gaps and both the interviewer and me not sure if we should speak.

This is exactly how I felt, especially the one awkward station part lol

Have a family friend whose son was accepted off of the high priority waitlist this morning (Friday, May 6th). So another acceptance off the high priority waitlist. I don't know his specific stats but do know that his MCAT score was a 34.

Hello,
I was just curios if anyone who was accepted to Rutgers attended the MBS program at Rutgers, and received the guaranteed interview, got accepted? I was just if anyone knew the stats about the MBS program and its acceptances into the medical school?!

Hi bewell24,

I did this program and personally know 5 people from my class who were accepted to RWJMS directly through this program. It really depends on the year though because the year before that, only 1 person was accepted.

As long as you meet the minimum requirements of this AAP program (http://rwjms.rutgers.edu/gsbs/AAP.html), then you're guaranteed an interview. After that, it all depends on your interview performance and the number of spots they have available. Since the interviews take place in late spring, it's likely that the number of open spots will vary every year. Last year, RWJMS had over accepted, and they automatically deferred the students who were accepted through the AAP to start school this year.

I would say that if you're considering doing the MBS program just because of the AAP then it's probably not a good idea because it's very competitive and there are many variables that go into the number of students they accept every year. If you're doing it for the normal reasons such as having a low GPA or to have a better science background due to being a nontraditional student then go for it. If you're doing it for either one of those reasons then you'll still have a great chance to get accepted the following year even if you don't get into RWJMS though the AAP. The MBS program is very rigorous and requires your undivided attention. If your performance is subpar then it can really hurt your chances of getting accepted to any medical school including RWJMS.

PM me if you have any other questions

Accepted off the waitlist as of this afternoon!!!

Honestly, I don't know who it was that said the class is so severely overbooked that it wouldn't move at all, but keep the hope alive everyone if you're still waiting!!

wondering the same..any chance for regular waitlist? were you priority?

Here's a brief timeline:

Competitive Category: 3/14
LOI sent: 3/21
High Priority Alternate: 4/6
Acceptance: 5/13

Accepted on Friday the 13th 😱, who woulda thought....

Congrats! Just out of curiosity, I am on reg wait list and I called and was told they're wouldn't be movement on that one. But I was wondering where you sent ur letter and what you included bc I also sent an update letter and a new lor from a doctor and it apparently hasn't helped me

Nope, just an email that says "I'm coming thru". Did you get in, by any chance?

@Medeq It was a basic letter (no updates), I just said why I'm a fan of the school and what I have to offer. Keep in mind that RWJ has alot of linkage agreements with post-bacs including their own MBS program, so they still have candidates to consider for direct acceptances. But I wouldn't lose hope yet since not everyone meets the requirements! I hope to see you in August!

I called the admissions office to ask when I would know by because it influenced whether or not I could accept a promotion offer with my job. The woman was pretty blunt and basically told me to make other plans when she heard I was on the regular wait list. I'm still hoping because it wasn't Dr. T or Dr. Copeland, but she sounded pretty certain. I may have cried for like an hour after that haha

@FutureMrDr thank you. I really hope so too!

Received an email this morning saying the class is full and that movement on the alternate list has stopped. 🙁

I just got the call on Wednesday! I was placed on the high priority alternate list after interviewing through AAP. I was told there wouldn't be very much movement but here I am.
