2015-2016 Temple University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I noticed this too but found this: https://medicine.temple.edu/sites/medicine/files/files/Academic Calendar 2016-2017 1-20-16.pdf
It seems like this is up-to-date as it says updated 1/20/2016. It also seems to follow last years pattern with orientation starting the first Monday in August.

If you're status changed from "Accepted" to "Deposit Paid", you should have a "Tuition Deposit" tab instead of the "Accepted" tab. There's some links for information about philly and housing at the bottom after the orientation information!

Thanks Yggdrasil! I found it!

Hey guys,
Do any of you guys know where I could get some housing information (geared towards Temple students)?? I'm an out of state student planning to move someplace close to campus.
I'm a current Temple med student. You can get housing right behind the medical school in student-only housing. Though this is really really convenient (and I'm definitely jealous of my friend that's able to roll out of bed and go to class), I wouldn't want to venture out at night much and your grocery shopping options are limited. Also, keep in mind that most people live in center city-- good access to coffee shops for studying and bars for social outings. Even if you're not a bar person (and I'm not), I appreciate being able to visit a party and feeling safe getting back home.

Other options are living on Temple undergrad campus, which would cut down on the commute or the Temple podiatry housing (in Chinatown) where you would hop on the Express (Spur) to get to school.

Oh my god! These are good stuff!!! I can't thank you enough GrassBladeRunner. It's my first time moving out of the State and it's quite daunting for me. I'm not quite sure how much time I should allocate in looking for a place while I'm visiting Philly or how soon I should be moving there... but I'm hoping it would all turn out alright!! 🙂

I'll second what GrassBladeRunner said about the housing behind campus - I too am often jealous of my friends who roll out of bed and are sitting in class 5 minutes later...but then they mention going to RiteAid for groceries, and I cringe. Even if you choose to live in Center City, though, don't underestimate the importance of evaluating nearby grocery options - I've got friends who have to take a cab/Uber every time they want groceries, and that gets annoying (not to mention expensive) pretty quickly. It's something a lot of people don't consider.

One of the biggest things to keep in mind for housing is whether or not you want to have a car with you. While it is possible to have one living in Center City, it's a bit trickier and not all of your housing options will have parking. If it's important to you to have a car with you, you may want to consider East Falls/Manayunk/Roxborough. There are a good number of med students up in those areas as well. The downside is that you aren't as close to center city, where many of the social activities of the class seem to take place, but there are busses and Uber's convenient too. So it's all a balance of what sort of lifestyle you're looking for.

For those of us who will probably have a car, how does parking around the med school campus/hospital work?

There are two options for parking - an outdoor lot and a multi-floor garage. The lot is cheaper, but tends to sell out quickly (I think if you didn't log on within the first few hours this year, you were out of luck for that option). Both are open Monday through Friday; on the weekend and holidays, if you have a pass to the lot or the garage, you can park in the hospital employee garage on those days. They sell parking by the semester, so you have to buy a new pass every semester. But both options are very convenient.

I remember my tour guide on the day of the interview saying that there's a Facebook group for med students in Philadelphia, and people use it to find roommates etc... just wondering if anyone has a link to that?

Placed on CCL via mail today 🙁
Since I interviewed at St. Luke's does this mean I am now only being considered for the main campus? (interviewed 1/12)

i'm assuming the CCL is the waitlist? i ask that because i had a family member who was placed on what they called the waitlist 2 cycles ago and they were accepted (at St. Luke's), so i assume you're still being considered for St. Luke's

I think for those of us who mentioned St. Luke as our number one option we are only being considered for the St. Luke's campus. My understanding is that we don't get a shot at each campus with one application.

did anyone drive to the interview? was parking free/validated?
If ur going to the st luke's interview there is free parking. I also went to the main campus the following day and parked on the street for free but not without a bystander saying I should take my belongings with me if I were going to park there. I think the main campus parking lots r not free if my memory serves me right.

Friend of mine told me that he called them. He said that they told him they would be mailing some decisions yesterday. So those still under review may get the boot soon unfortunately.
Edit: this was pre-II.

That fits last year's timeline.

Can anyone tell me though whether individuals like us creating a page like this is Ok and does not go against the social network policy of temple?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I deleted the page after reading this from the Student handbook
" Define site administrator: Any social media group and/or organization using the LKSOM name must officially designate a site administrator, whose name will be made available to SGA."

I'm not quite sure how to go about creating this the proper way I guess

Thanks for trying though!

For the Main Campus people: when does the Admissions Committee usually meet?

FYI, I'm pretty sure that last year someone just created one. It was a good resource for finding roommates, housing, info about orientation, etc. Once the school year started and elections were held, the class president was added as an admin, but I think there are still non-SGA admins.

Just placed on the wait list. Anyone know the odds of getting off the wait list?

To anyone: What are some of the closest hotels to Temple School of Medicine.
