2015-2016 University of Cincinnati Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thanks! LizzyM 74, OOS

Pretty coincidental because I'm currently reading a book by a graduate of this SOM...

Does anyone know where we are supposed to check in for our interviews? I can't seem to find the exact building/room on any of the supplementary materials.

@RiverSpirit - I just got an email from them this morning with the details;
"Park in the Eden Avenue Garage
Exit the garage at the street level and cross Eden Avenue
Walk up the stair case into the CARE/Crawley building
Check-in is located in the CARE/Crawley Atrium"

Interviewing Sept 11 (heard yesterday)! First post, first interview of the year.

OOS, was complete 7/23 (took the June MCAT). 521/3.6. Half excited, half comforted to hear back so fast. The e-mail they sent was really cryptic and strange, almost in a "Guess what's in the box" kind of way.
Did they email you first, or did you check the portal?

Just got out of the interview. It went well🙂 met @AndyF haha so that was cool. Best of luck to everyone. There really isn't anything you can do to "study" for the MMI. Its just communication skills and how you think. Really anxious to hear back!

+1 on the communication skills. Relaxing and smiling really helped; the interviewers were all very nice and kept a good conversation going.

But now we're all in limbo for ~2 months while we wait for October 15th 🙈

To those who already interviewed (@DrUnderage, @Kfranko889 , etc) - do you mind sharing which hotel you stayed at? The two options they list are kind of pricey for my low budget life 🙁. Want to nail something down for my interview next week!

Another option is a medical student host. I contacted admissions and they sent me a list.

I also stayed with a friend who is a current student, not a hotel 🙁

I might still scrounge for a hotel cuz this is my first interview of the season and i may be a little too neurotic to be around others LOLL....but real talk.:bucktooth:

The nutrition part of the curriculum seems interesting. I haven't seen that in any other school's curriculum (yet). Can any current students comment? Do you think it is interesting/useful?

can you post a link to that?

You know, I didn't think about that and just went ahead with the student host.

But now that you mention it, ZOMG ZOMG this might be a problem.

Nooo you'll be OK! Especially because it's MMI, the practice/prep is minimal. i just foresee talking out loud to myself anyway though. 🤔

Oh it doesn't have anything to do with practice/prep. I just expect I'll be an insufferable nutter butter. But I'm sure that since we can all relate, so will the students.

Do you mean that you don't talk out loud to yourself all of the time?

Does anyone know if there is s specific day or time they give interviews .? Crossing my fingers

I had the SAME thought for my first interview. Here was the thought process that went through my head: "A student host experience would be a great way to better understand the school! Hmmm, but is that too much stimulation before my interview? Why yes, yes it is. I must be alone in an AirBNB. It has been decided. There is always second look".

I am late to the party . Hoping to get my secondaries in by the end of next week. I live in the Mid-West and would like to visit UC if I could before I submit my SECs. I wasn't able to find any info on how to go about scheduling something like this. Has anyone visited the school and if so, how did you go about setting it up ?

to those who have already interviewed, do they let you write anything down when you're preparing your MMI response? this part of the MMI seems to differ between schools.

I'm still waiting for someone including current students to guide me as far as what the best way might be to setup a school visit at UCCOM. Are weekends better than a week day ? Who should I contact and what's the best way to connect up with some students while I'm there ?

There's not much reason to visit a medical school until you get an interview...

Yea I think they will get annoyed if you try to do a school visit pre-interview. If they invite you to come you can talk to current students then - otherwise I would chill 🙂

Are you serious ? I'd assume that someone who's actually visited the campus and the school will be able to speak to the WHY UCCOM question more thoughtfully than someone who hasn't. Besides, I've read countless posts on this very forum where people encourage you to visit before working on your secondaries - budget permitting of course. Anyhow, i am not here to pick a fight. Just amazed that some of you feel that way about a school visit.

I personally have never heard of anyone visiting a school outside of interviews and second-looks, but that's a pretty limited data set. Have you asked an advisor about this? They would know your situation best and thus would best know what works best for you.

If that's not possible, it wouldn't hurt to e-mail the admissions office and see what they say. Worst case scenario, they say no, and you're in the same place as the rest of us.

Think about it like this. There are thousands of people applying to UC besides you, is it really practical to be showing applicants around the school outside of the interview? Especially since most in the school probably have duties outside of medical school admissions. Most of the information about the medical school you can find online, if you have questions you can call, email etc etc. If you really want to tour you can try - however IMO it is not going to help your chances and it could potentially hurt them. Again - just my opinion. Good luck -

So I believe most applicants are within driving distance, but for those of you who would fly into Cincinnati for your interview, I recommend using this shuttle service: http://www.executivetransportation.org/airport.aspx

It took me straight to my hotel and picked me up from the hotel the next day, all for ~$30. That's a pretty great price for a ride to and from the airport.

Just thought I'd share 🙂

Just got a decision email today. I was edp and just got deferred to regular admission cycle.

Bummed out but i guess theres still a chance. Time to send in other apps:/

Sorry to hear that, but it sounds like you'll have a good chance at regular decision!

If you don't mind my asking, what was your LizzyM? This school is in my top 3 and I want to gauge how I might stack up.

My stats are really average. My ECs/experiences and LOR are very strong so thats what (i was hoping would) set me apart. There is a class profile on their website I believe.

No, they don't let you write any notes but you get 2 minutes to read the prompt before entering each room.
