2015-2016 University of Louisville Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
To any current students .... I'm trying to plan for the future (balancing work/school/family) and wanted to know around what times are classes typically held. I do understand that there is Tegrity but I would like to attend classes if possible. Also, which classes are mandatory to attend and what time are they typically scheduled at??

Any insight would be much appreciated!!

Thanks

(I've already interviewed here, just waiting for Oct 15 for a decision)

M1, so I'm only in the first block, which is supposed to be the most time intensive. I would summarize a typical week with M-W-F lecture from 8-9 (non-mandatory), lab from 9-12 (mandatory, but you only do every other lab and attend the last 30 minutes on your off day, typically there are about 5 extra non-mandatory one hour lectures per week, and lastly another 2 hours of mandatory events usually from 1-3 per week. I can send you a few pictures if you want.

Here is a schedule. I'd say this is a pretty average schedule. Blocks denotes with a big red "M" are mandatory. The two big blocks on Friday are split up into two hour blocks and you only have to attend one of them, Not the entire 4 hours on both days.

Thank you, this really helps me plan ahead!

No problem. Also, anything that says "online" is either an online only lecture or a soft chalk, which is basically just a dense, short (10-20 pages) reading.

Can anyone chime in on the committee review timeline? My secondary application was marked as received on 9/2 and I was wondering when I could expect to hear something. I'm in-state and currently in one of the biomedical graduate programs through UofL's medical school.

does anyone know about the grading system? Is it pass/ fail or letter grades?

They meet on the second and fourth Tuesday of the Month. Then they deliver news the next day. It took me about 2 weeks to hear back from them for an interview (but it certainly can vary depending on how many applications are rolling in).

Can someone give us an update on the earliest interview slots currently available?

Any recent IIs? Also does anyone know if UoL accepts updates and if so, do we email them?

Is anyone else feeling a little anxious about Oct. 15th? :nailbiting::nailbiting:
Yes OMG OMG OMG!!! But it is so exciting!!! Plus the hard part is over, now it's just waiting. Best of luck to everyone, we will all be fine in the end 🙂

I got a vague email saying that they have not made a decision on my file yet, specifying that it had not been wait-listed or put on hold but would be reviewed at some point. Anyone else get this? I was under the impression they'd give us a decision today (I interviewed in August). I'm not panicking since I've been accepted elsewhere, it's just really odd!

I got the same e-mail. I interviewed during the first week of Sept. From looking at last year's forum, it appears that they really just haven't gotten to us yet and we have a good chance of hearing something on Oct. 28th.

Congrats to everyone that was accepted! I really love Louisville and I am hoping that they will start sending out some more IIs now that they have sent the first batch of acceptances!

Does anyone know if there is a FB group like the previous years for those accepted?

OOS. LizzyM of 70. Huge upward trend. Complete 8/5. II 8/31. Interviewed 9/23. Accepted 10/15. So thrilled to have my first acceptance. U of L is a great place and the people there are so friendly. The adcoms here definitely value clinical exposure and your motivation into medicine more than just the numbers.

I've been complete since 9/1 and haven't received an II here either. I received an II to UK a month ago, and currently attend UofL for graduate school. I also went here for undergrad, and would be surprised if I didn't at least get an II. After asking around, I've heard that they are just running behind in processing paperwork. When I emailed Pam Osborne a couple of weeks ago, she said that it's not necessarily "first come first served."

+1 since 7/31. . .but I guess the fact that we are still in the pile and not denied yet is a plus.
I'm IS and go to uofl for undergrad. Completed the secondary 8/20. Just got an interview invite yesterday and they are in terms of mid November

What are you guys doing for research and/or volunteer experience?
I'm doing independent research and continuing volunteering. I gotta keep up my grades too in case they put me on hold or wait until the semester is over to make a decision. If u get interviewed in November will we find out in December?

Has anyone IS with a 502 MCAT or below gotten an II?

I have a 3.96 cGPA, 530 shadowing hours, and a couple hundred more volunteer/leadership hours. I thought UofL would be my better option since they are better at looking at the whole application and not letting one score get in the way, but I'm getting nervous.

Complete 10/6

congrats!! mind sharing stats? PM if you wish. fellow OOSer here
Thanks! 3.8 gpa, 515 MCAT, a lot of leadership and community service, decent amount of shadowing. Just started a research assistant job.

Be prepared to give a great explanation (more than just the secondary answer) for your OOS interest. They grilled me during both interviews about "Why UofL?"

Complete 10/6? Give it a little bit. Anything can happen, but at this stage you generally won't be hearing back for quite a bit longer than two weeks. I'd be thinking more along the lines of mid-November.
