Any tips for preparing for the UMass MMI?
Well, I honestly thought that my MMIs went terribly (UMass was my one and only MMI school), but what I tried to do was connect the prompts to my experiences. Just don't dwell on the stations you didn't feel confident in and move on. Keep an open mind and try to enjoy the experience! (Personally, I didn't enjoy it that much, but it did go by super fast!)

Withdrawing my interview invite. Hope it goes to one of you!

Does your UMASS portal change if you're rejected?

Hi everyone! I'm a Umass 4th year and I LOVE this school. If you have questions about anything let me know and I'll gladly answer. coming here was one of the best decisions of my life.

Hi Aker, did you find that the majority of the class found out/chose umass fairly late in the admissions cycle? Also how are the clinical sites that you've been rotations through and what your goal for matching?

Thanks!

Does anyone know when II's end here?

Not sure if this advice is coming too late, but what I think really helped for me was taking a few deep breaths before every station and just calming myself down and starting fresh! I tend to be a worry wart and had lots of anxiety after stations I didn't think I did particularly well at, but just re-centering myself again and reminding myself that I have a brand new start with every new station worked very well!

Most students that matriculate get in off the waitlist.

Re: matching and match lists. We do pretty well, but there's definitely a lot of self selection for people that want to do primary care stuff in state for obvious reasons. I wouldn't read too much into things. Departments here are very helpful about getting you oriented etc if you're interested in a specialty even if there's no residency program for said specialty (which is true for a couple of surgical fields).

Is it worthwhile to send a post-interview update/letter of interest? There's a lot of negative feelings towards such letters on SDN, but does anyone have any UMass specific advice/experience?

I'd do it if there have been any notable changes/developments to your application. I sent a couple in last cycle.

Where should update letters/letters of intent be sent in order to maximize the likelihood that it will be read? Does it matter if it's sent in an email or by snail mail?

Damn, I am feeling demoralized lol... is everyone else under the impression we'll hear back sometime in March?

Hi! Yes many people found out very late. One of my classmates interviewed in September and didn't get in until June and he's thriving. I heard zippo from Dec to acceptance in April. It can be really frustrating but it is SO worth it because UMass is such a wonderful place!

I've loved all of my clinical rotations. Some are tougher than others but there is great training in a variety of practice environments and faculty are generally awesome and eager to teach.

I'm hoping to match in Boston and have heard from experienced mentors that I'm very likely to. I got interviews at every program I applied to and most of my colleagues had similar experiences. UMass sends grads to top ranked programs around the country and I believe 60% of students get their first choice(not sure of the exact number). UMass is especially well respected for the excellent clinical training we get. Our grads are known for their exceptional interviewing skills and strong clinical skills from appropriately challenging rotations with escalating responsibility. I'm very confident that I'm starting internship from a really solid foundation!

The only downside is that you have to graduate and medical school eventually ends...it really is sad for a lot of us that this very special time will come to a close soon. I've made amazing friends here and I wish we could be in the same city forever! ::feelings::

Good question! I sent mine to the general admissions contact email and I got a response. I don't think it accelerated my acceptance (I think I waited another month or two?) but it can't hurt.

Good luck!

He didn't hear back until June? I thought you are supposed to decide which school you would go to in April?

The admissions coordinator said that everyone will hear back by the end of April if they are accepted, waitlisted, or rejected. Most people will get off the waitlist in May or June...but I expect some people could hear back even later if someone drops out of the class last minute.

Trying to decide between Umass and georgetown. Any insight? My S.O. will probably be in DC, and I got a better feeling at the school / have heard better things about their graduates and residents, but umass and living in worcester would be cheaper.

Sorry yes you are right. I am either remembering wrong or he was WLd until June. Point is...many classmates were accepted relatively late :)

ETA: you can decide up until matriculation day. So you can say yes to one place but if you get off a wait list in August and classes haven't started (ie you haven't formally matriculated) you can change your mind. At least that's what I recall from way back 4 yrs ago!

Depends on the SO and the relationship tbh. Big difference if this is a fiance vs new relationship imho.

Is anyone else having issues logging in to the portal? It said my password expired but then won't let me set a new one...

Quick question for current students, unsure if this is an inappropriate question, but do you guys know if UMass drug tests before classes start?

There's nothing to suggest they do in the pre-health screening packet we have to fill out

Interviewed here on 2/18...I know the cycle is excruciatingly long for UMass, but does anyone have any idea when we might get some type of indication of status (ie, when does the committee meet)? From this forum I get the sense that decisions are made on Fridays, but I'm not sure if its every Friday, or specific ones throughout the month.

Any tips for the interview? I'm interviewing here on the 8th and it will be my first MMI. What did you do for practice?

Honestly, I didn't prep at all - theres no way to for the scenarios that they give you. Just be outgoing and confident, and definitely if you mess up one station, don't let it affect the next for you. I like this style much better than a classic interview.

Are the questions healthcare/politics/economics related? I have no idea what to expect!

That's the general idea. There's no way to prepare for these type of interviews haha. The questions ranged from healthcare to politics and real life scenarios.

Looks like the majority of acceptances went out on 3/13 last year... Hoping we hear something back soon...
So maybe next Friday? It seems like next week is their last week of interviews....fingers crossed so I can start sleeping again

Anybody on here know if the waitlist is ranked? I have heard absolutely nothing after my interview I just wanted to know!!!

why do you say seems like next week is last round of interviews?

Anyone know how much weight the interview is? I hope it's not like something that would kill your chances unless you do horribly on it which is hard to do I would think. Man... The wait is brutal.

Does Umass allow you to take notes on the prompt so you remember all the points you want to make?
