2015-2016 University of Miami (Miller) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Were you also there this last weekend?

Also just to add my experience - my interviewer grilled me with ethics questions. Not at all conversational, which was what I expected. I think it varies depending on the interviewer, though. And if you get an II, your interviewer is one of the 3 ppl that read your application and liked it enough to invite you. So staying positive 🙂

Also all the stats are on the CD that came in the folder they gave us 🙂 the only thing I can't figure out is they have 10 acceptance dates x 20 acceptances - so how are they accepting 369 instead of 200? Are the extra 169 off the wait list?
I think I know who you are. You are the reason why I said I heard mixed reviews about the interviews. I am traveling to other interviews which is why I was not 100 percent sure with the stats. I would think at least some of the 169 are off the wait list as an acceptance at any point in the cycle is an acceptance. Sorry again about your poor interview experience. May Miami and other schools shower us with love in the form of an acceptance this October 14/15.

I was complete late July and still haven't been scored. 🙁

do they send you an email when you are scored?

huh mine just says I am complete and currently being reviewed
Mine has said this for a couple of weeks: "Your Application has been reviewed by the Admissions Committee at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Applicants will be invited to interview based upon their evaluation score from the Admissions Committee review. You will be contacted by email if you are selected for an interview. Interview invitations are extended between August and March".

Awesome! How do people get on that? I didn't see any information in the email...

There should be an email address that you can email if you're interested.

Edit: To clarify, you go to the website in the email, go to Interview FAQs, click on Miami Interview Information and scroll all the way down.

Is "your application has been reviewed.... at this time, no final decision has been reached" the same as being scored? Is there a status explicitly saying you've been scored?

I believe this is the dreaded "pre-interview hold" but I could be wrong. It is definitely different from the status that says you have been scored and may or may not be invited for an interview though.

I had that status for about a week before I got an II. Ended up interviewing on the 2nd possible date.

II this morning, OOS lizzy m ~73
Complete 7/12

What was your status before you received your interview? Was is the "Your application has been reviewed by the Admissions Committee at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. At this time, a final decision has not been reached on your application." or something else?

They'll let you know that it's been scored before you get an II.

What is the difference between the two statuses?

What is the grading system preclinical and clinical (with link please 🙂 )?

What is the grading system preclinical and clinical (with link please 🙂 )?
Preclinical is "pass/fail" with internal ranking and class rank by quartiles. Clinical is the standard H/HP/P/F, I believe. All grades (preclinical and clinical) are factored into your class rank by the time you submit ERAS. Class rank and step 1 score are factored into AOA eligibility.

Sorry, no links. This is all from what I've been told by the upperclassmen.

Interviewed here on 9/28 for MD and MD/MPH. Absolutely my dream school, fingers crossed! :joyful: Feel fre to PM me if you have any questions about their interview days.

The admissions representative seemed to say that they would start making calls right after their admissions meeting on 10/14- are they allowed to do this before the official 10/15 release date? Or maybe I misunderstood them?

They can reject people before 10/15 but acceptance cannot be released until then.

II :soexcited:! OOS secondary sub 08/27

Edit: My status just changed, I think a couple days ago, telling me that my file was reviewed and waiting to be scored. So, once the file is reviewed a II should come shortly after, hopefully.

Anyone know how many interview dates there were before 10/15?

Oh wow, there were about 22 people at my interview day so that means they're only accepting around 20/140, so about 14% of interviewers next week 🙁

At my interview day (late September) they said the committee probably won't be voting on our apps before October 15th because they're still working on the earlier interviews. The woman I spoke to said to expect to start hearing things mid November

I interviewed on 9/25, and I think they said they had only done one interview prior? Either 1 or 2. When did you interview?

When was your interview? I'm assuming you meant late September not November?

Same! I think the first one was Sept 21

Are you sure they do interviews 2x a week? That's a lot of interviews...I vaguely remember when picking dates that I only picked 9/25 and the rest were in Oct and Fridays only with a few Mondays scattered in (I didn't pick any of the Monday ones).

does anyone know how they choose what apps to score? I assumed they did it in the order they were received, but this doesn't seem to be the case.
