2015-2016 University of Minnesota Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Let me know if/when you get your secondary so I can confidently freak out.

Also, my fiance is M1 at TC right now. Anybody think it'd help to mention that in my secondary? I'm OOS
Yes definitely mention it in the question that asks if you're a Minnesota resident. Say you're not a resident, but your fiance is an M1 there.

Anyone who got a II on Tuesday hear back yet after sending the email to schedule an interview?

For those who have IIs, fid you ever receive an 'application complete' email, or was it just the two check marks on the portal?

Nope, never got an e-mail like that. Just the app portal. Then the invite to interview however many weeks later

All letters were received by amcas a week ago but it still shows 3/4 on
the LOR section. is this normal? Thanks.

II early this morning! OOS, LizzyM ~74. Love this school's focus on public health and service.

I was verified 8/14 and have still not received a secondary app, it has been almost a month. Do you think they are just taking longer for screening this year, or should I actually be worried and perhaps give them a call? I know I meet all of their baseline requirements easily, so I'm assuming I wasn't screened out...hopefully.

No worry. I got verified 8/1 and got the secondary 8/30.

By the grace of the all mighty.. I got an II.. Im OOS. what is the interview like there? What is the format?

One student interview, and one faculty interview I believe. They will send you an itinerary when your date is confirmed, but it doesn't have a ton of details.

Congrats! Mind sharing when you submitted your secondary and what your stats are?

My preliminary app was verified 7/29 and still no secondary. I call weekly and sent letters... muffin. If they ever do send you (assuming you haven't gotten it yet) and me a secondary I'd imagine it'll be more of a donation than a processing fee.

But maybe I'm just a little too bitter at this point.

Preliminary verified 7/27; secondary completed 9/10...

Mark that email down as 1 rejection, 0 II. IS, completed 8/4. Good luck everyone

Just got a rejection here as well. Was very painful!

That's rough, best of luck in the other places you applied. Did you apply to TC, Duluth or both? Which one was the rejection for?

I am in the same boat. Verified 7/28 and still no secondary. I received an email from them verifying the receipt of my AMCAS application on 8/20. I am OOS, but almost my whole family lives in Minnesota. Of course they cannot tell that by my primary app.

Twin Cities only, where I attended undergrad

This is correct. The interviews are generally relaxed, try not to stress about it.

Like I said in a previous post, my fiance is a MI there. When I called to explain this to them, they told me to put it in my secondary...

Waistline/inseam ~ mcat/gpa, same amount of numbers to measure your ass and aptitude for med school. Matthew McConaughey circa 2014

I'm OOS too and I got that receipt email on 8/21. Haven't heard anything yet but I'm pretty sure they're just running late. If you look at the 2014-2015 thread, one OOS got a secondary on 10/02 after getting the receipt email two months prior.

I'm sure as OOS, we're lower priority but since you have very significant ties, you stand out in our little cohort so think of it as a leg up you already have!

I like your optimism kid.

I just received an email saying that I am invited to complete the secondary application (verified 7/28, OOS), but when I go to the website, it still has that they are evaluating and will send out an email if you are invited to complete the secondary. Did anyone else encounter this problem?

Nevermind. I guess I was just too quick to check the website. It is now letting me see the application.

I just got the secondary, submitted my primary back in July and was verified in mid July. Is it worth it to submit, I'm thinking that their time delay is a bit ridiculous and they're not actually interested in me? Should I just say screw the secondary?

Do you have lots of interviews at other schools?
How high is this school on your list?
If it's low and you have interviews at other schools, I'd say it's not worth spending time and money on the secondary.

Only one at IS school and been in frequent contact with my other top choice school. Already knew it would be slim chances at OOS Minnesota. Probably not going to send them my money if they didn't even want to pretend they were my friend, hah. Thanks!

I applied a little late last year (IS) so wasn't interviewed here until January. There were a lot of OOSers at the January interview--I think they outnumbered the ISers, so I think they get pushed back quite a bit. I'm not sure when they were complete, though. Might be worth a phone call, at least! The secondary is pretty hefty, though :wideyed:

Uh oh... I really hope I won't have to wear a skirt suit in Minnesota in January... REALLY REALLY hope not.

Has anyone who applied from in-state gotten an interview or has it been mostly OOS?

I wish I received their secondary sooner. I may be OOS, but I have probably over 10 members of my family who have graduated from here. I have cousins who graduated from their medical school, one who is a math professor, and another who works in the Health Careers Center. I am going to try to claim in-state by proxy. 😉
