2015-2016 University of Pennsylvania (Perelman) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
According to AMCAS Traffic Rules:
"By March 15 of the matriculation year, each school or program have issued a number of offers of acceptance at least equal to the expected number of students in its first-year entering class and have reported those acceptance actions to the American Medical College ApplicationService (AMCAS)."

That is the date that Penn usually aims to release its decisions but I'm not sure if everyone will hear back on that exact date.

From what I've seen in past threads we may hear a few days before that

Do you think that they will wait until Monday the 14th or spare us the weekend waiting?

In previous years the applicant portal went down for maintenance for a few hours prior to decisions being released. In the 2014-2015 thread people freaked out for a couple hours when it went down because they knew that meant it was decision day. Also, it seems like that date has historically been from around March 11-14th, so I'm not sure if decisions will actually end up being released this week...

Cornell was historically in the same range, but this year they announced decisions on February 24th. Who knows, this year could be an anomaly for the schools.

I'm gonna operate under the assumption that this isn't true just so I don't drive myself insane this week haha

Laughed a bit too hard in my shared office when I read this. I feel exactly the same.

I have such a love-hate relationship with Penn right now.

I'd LOVE to get accepted but I'll hate getting rejected lol

I know decisions have not gone out yet, but does anyone know when revisit weekend is?

And like 20 other schools. Yale, Chicago, Vandy, Sinai...eek

Hahaha you make it sound like you got into all those schools

If that's the case, don't stress too much

Haha far from it. But I imagine there are plenty of people who have or will (beings that they seem to target similar applicants).

lol at the MSTP director sending us a random email with a subject line generic enough for us to think decisions were being released. C'mon, Skip. Don't freak us out like that.

I was thinking the same thing. Decisions came out the 12th or 13th the last 3 years but that's a weekend for us so hopefully they'll tell us early!

The admissions committee must feel so powerful knowing that they completely and unequivocally control how fun my weekend is going to be after decisions are released

I feel like Thursday or Friday of next week seems like when they might send out our decisions given trends from past years.
Nah, spring break is next week. Everyone will be out of the office... we have an exam tomorrow and they told us we wouldn't get our grades for over a week because "spring break starts the second exams are done".

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

So it'll definitely be the 14th or the 15th then. I doubt they'd want to release right before break due to all the e-mail/voicemails that would pile up during that time.

I hope that means today to tomorrow for decisions, not the 14th or 15th. I can't wait either way!

Do you think that's possible since they interviewed some students last week?

Doesn't this imply that decisions must be coming out tomorrow?

UVA interviewed Mon-Thurs and would release decisions on Friday. A quick turnaround is certainly possible.

True. And didn't someone say that a first year said decisions would come out this week... Maybe....

Also post bacc decisions don't have to be released at the same time as regular decisions. Last year they were released at the same time, but they aren't always.

Last year's spring break was March 7-15, and the year before was March 8-16. If that serves as any indication, I don't think next week is off-limits for decisions.

Edit--to continue the speculation train, decisions have historically come out on the Wednesday or Thursday during spring break, setting us up for potentially either the 9th or 10th.

I hope it's not the tenth. I'd hate to get bad news twice on the same day

Last year financial aid awards/scholarship notification came out before second look. Will it be the same this year even though second look is quite a bit earlier?

On interview day, they told us financial awards may not be available before SLW, but that they will try to make it happen. I expect they will give accepted applicants a more up to date estimate of when the awards will be released.

Their website says merit based scholarships should be announced in early April.

I don't know why, but I feel like the next week's wait is going to be the worst or unnerving part of the whole cycle (especially if I don't get in).

Well with the full-ride at Chicago in hand already, you should be fine regardless of the outcome here. Keep in mind, some folks don't have even a single acceptance. I learned to be grateful in the latter part of the cycle when I began seeing this on the trail.
