Accepted 11/23

So excited as this was my first choice. I love the research I have been doing at the u for the last 6 months.

Good luck to everyone still in the race. I am a reapplicant so know how stressful this process is.
That's great news! When did you interview? Also, can you share what your strengths were in your application?

I interviewed Oct 30
I think some of the highlights of my application were that I had around 300 hours of service (a big chunk done in a U of U clinic), I had tons of leadership (I was captain of my NCAA college soccer team), and employed by the U of U as a research tech. where I am very involved in our project.

Who are you? I interviewed on October 30th, too.

So if people are getting accepted that interviewed before you does that mean I'm waiting till March? Just curious, can anyone confirm this?

If people who interviewed after you have been accepted early, then I'd plan on waiting until March. For example, they accepted somebody who interviewed on Oct 30th which means that they already had their committee review process (where they look at their application/secondary/interview and given them a score). Because I interviewed before that person (I was on the 26th of October) that means that they have already had my committee review session as well and they have given me a score - which apparently wasn't high enough to be accepted early. Accordingly, I'm just planning on waiting until March for my decision. That's what I think anyway.

How long does it take until getting an assigned interview date? I submitted the form with preferences.

When you fill out the schedule form, it says within two weeks.

I submitted my preferences on a monday and heard back that thursday. Obviously, I don't know if that is the norm though.

Also they told me the interview date and info on the phone and never sent an email. So make sure to write down the time and date so you don't forget it.

I just realized that Utah resident tuition is $18,047.00. Is that correct? That is significantly lower than anywhere else I have seen.

I don't think that is true. The MSAR says that tuition is 34,000 or so, but I think that at the interview they mentioned it was raised to 36,000 this year for In State tuition.

Hey guys, any news? I interviewed on the 9th of November and am trying to figure out if they have already sent the early decisions for our group.

^same - I'm not complaining about it. Complete 8/28 oos all that jazz. Would love another excuse to check out SLC

I just realized that I forgot to submit a photo when I submitted the schedule form a few days ago. I wonder if that is why I still haven't had anyone call to confirm my date. :bang:

It took exactly a week for me to get the call after I got the II email and selected my interview date; at that point I hadn't submitted my photo (I didn't do that until just last week! Oops!) I'm sure yours will come before the week's over 🙂

I received the same email just now. Breathed a huge sigh of relief that it wasn't a rejection! I'm happy to keep waiting for an II!

I received an apologies for the delay email as well. Glad I'm still in the running! Complete early November.

I submitted the schedule form on Dec. 2nd with my preferences but still haven't heard anything. Is this normal or should I contact Admissions?

They are slow because there is no incentive to go fast. Currently there is no competition for medical students in this state, so they can do whatever they feel like. I have known how awful the application process is for the school since the beginning. Luckily I used it as my format and it has helped me get other acceptances so far. Preparing for the U has helped me, whether they truly care or not

@zhopv10 , @daenschl what has your experience been with bench to bedside? I'd love to hear more about this program

I'm doing the Bench to bedside with some other med students and engineering students. It's pretty fun. The involvement of medical students is fairly minimal, as the only thing we can contribute is the medical problem that will be solved. The part of the competition where all of the work happens (prototyping, developing a business) usually falls to business and engineering students. But that's okay with me, we're busy. The program is totally optional and fairly low stress. It can be really cool if you sink your teeth into it and it is fairly well organized. Most people in my class are not doing it, but a good number are.

I actually don't have any experience with it, sorry! I'm doing basic science and clinical projects for research instead. From what I hear it's great, but not my thing.

@Ginred I want to note that I'm doing the Bench to bedside in addition to some other research projects I'm currently involved in. It's really more of an on-the-side thing. Not a ton of effort but possibly very worth it.

Fair enough. I don't know what it would be yet (or where) but wherever I go to med school I'd like to definitely get involved with some research! Thanks for your replies @zhopv10 and @daenschl

I don't have a lot of details, but one of my best friends got accepted here this morning via phone call from Dr. Chan (He texted me about it around 9am). Thought you guys might want to know!

If you get a chance, can you let us know what day your friend interviewed? Congratulations to him!

I also know somebody that got accepted today that interviewed 10/12 for reference.

Dr. Chan called me this morning. What a great way to wake up! I am a re-applicant and interviewed in late September. Good luck to everyone and don't get discouraged if it takes more than one application cycle.
WHAAAAAAAT??!!!? Congrats man!!!!

What do you think was different about your application/interview this cycle that made you more competitive?

I think it was mostly my interview. I spent a decent amount of time preparing for the interview and ended up really clicking with both of my traditional interviewers.

I am an OOS applicant, but both of my parents graduated from the U for undergrad. Any thoughts on if this would help my application or not? Do they even care about familial ties to the school?
