2015-2016 University of Washington Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
@charlie517 ive read in other threads that it might help some just because your compared over more cycles of acceptances being sent out but then i also hear that generally it doesnt help much so i dont really know.. I was hoping to interview around November so that i would have hopefully completed other interveiws and be more prepared for this one (as this is my dream school). Evidently thats not happening 🙁🙁

We'll ll agree to disagree 🙂 that's def not what she told me. Also, that presentation is geared for OOS but in WAMI
Maybe WA is actually getting their act together and FINALLY increasing seats in their own program. I know for awhile, they've been static at 120 seats, yea? Solely based on talking to people, seems like a higher % of my Idaho friends get in than WA, but maybe that has changed. Or maybe I just know all the competitive applicants...

Yeah it would be nice 😛

I am on the same boat...but with my ii email date Im thinking I may get one around mid oct. which would be the earliest interview possible for me and during my time abroad so would have to reschedule :\

II this afternoon!!! Complete 8/30

How does UW do acceptances? Do they wait until March or do they accept a few weeks after your interview?

There's a link to a page that explains all that in the interview invite email.
Basically if they love you they'll call the same day, otherwise they meet once a month and make decisions, at which point you can be accepted/rejected/deferred until the next month. And so on until March. And then they build the waitlist.

Should I anticipate a confirmation email re: residency verification once it was processed? Or just a "Completed" on the status page?

Just out of curiosity.. how much do you all study for interviews?

Just got my interview email, and there is only one day available, October 1st! That's so close. Do you think there could be a problem with the system? It's less than the 3-4 weeks they try to give applicants.

I doubt it. At one of my other schools, where I'm OOS, I got 8 days notice. October 1st gives you two weeks to prep, I'd go for it!

Me neither! I'm not worried.

Only reason I am worried is because of my completion and initial ii email sent....and how it may end up coming with dates during my abroad trip (oct 8th - 25th). I don't want to have to ask for different dates. I'm considering sending a preventative email letting them know I will be away? But I don't want to step on anyone's toes. I was hoping by getting it all early I'd get early oct dates...I'd be happy with a early-mid nov date!

Anyone able to speak to this? I was marked as complete, then received residency verification email a week or so later. Sent everything in but still confused if I'm complete as of now. Congrats on the IIs, guys!

I received a " FW: Washington Residency" email after my residency docs were verified

Just got assigned an interview day today. Received the II email without an assigned day on Monday so that was certainly quick.
My interview is veerrrrryyyy soon.

Just got an II this afternoon. How long does it take to get the date usually?

Usually you get the email for residency verification request BEFORE being complete. Do you mean you got the secondary complete email or application complete? You usually get an email from residency saying you were verified, then you application turns complete if your secondary was completed as well.

Yeah, it seemed a little out of order to me as well. My application was marked as complete before receiving the residency verification email. It lists all of my materials as complete or received, I just haven't heard anything in 9 weeks and thought the residency info/mix up might have something to do with it. Who knows though.

Congrats to everyone once again! Good stuff.

Well, I would probably call to verify, but if you want to check with residency first you can as well. I called once to check by when I could expect a response email to the verification. They asked my name and he looked through his pile and told me about when he'd look at it (it was a week off due to delays). Based on that you can decide whether to ask admissions if they looked at your app. I wouldn't worry though. I think they may look at your application before the verification, they may not make any decisions until after they get the email though.

@BABSstudent For the interview, is there a role play AND ethical scenario, or both?
thanks!

Honestly, there can be either. I have heard people that got an ethical scenario and just had to explain their position (like you have a parent who does not want to vaccinate their child, what do you do?) but it is more common to get a role play. These role plays can have an ethical portion to them because that's just the nature of medicine. For example, I had a scenario where there was a medical error made by a nurse at night and I was the doctor on the floor the next day who had to go talk to the patient's family (who were played by the interviewers). There is an ethical portion to this because I have to decide how much should be divulged to the patient's family and if I decide to name the person who made a mistake. Then there is the role play where they gauged how I interacted with the family members, my demeanor and word choice. It wasn't fun, but it worked out in the end.

So about a week and a half ago i requested an interview slot in the first week of October but I have not received any confirmation or further information about the day since. I only got an email saying that i requested and that a confirmation email should be coming, which hasnt to this point.. Is anyone else having this problem?

Somehow I'm not surprised I've been rejected from this school.
(Rejection email received moments ago)

IS
MCAT 32 cGPA 3.81

This was the cherry on top to my day so far -_-

Yup me too

🙁 I'm surprised, sorry to hear that.
this would be similar to my stats, can you please elaborate a bit more about the rest of your app (and why you are not surprised)?

II, complete late July, IS. Apparently the review process has been slower than usual this year so be patient (although no, I wasn't patient which is why I called to see what was going on). News is coming!

Sure. My resume is hashed out below.
I'm not surprised because I've been rejected from this school every time I've applied to it for ANYTHING despite being a WA resident for 25+ years of my life (virtually my entire life).

Undergrad -- rejected
Transfer applicant -- rejected
Med school 2011 applicant -- rejected
Grad school -- rejected
Job pre- and post-interview -- rejected
Affiliated organization job interview -- rejected
Med school 2015 applicant -- rejected

I just can't seem to get into the heads of the people that run admissions I guess.
In 2011 they said they couldn't glean from my application my reasoning for wanting to become a physician. Well, four years later and apparently they still can't despite the help I received from loads of advisors.
But that's ok because I've got four interviews already, so at least I've got that going for me :horns:

Due to some technical difficulties, I have not been able to register for an interview date :/ I've seen dates that I really want disappear. Quite frustrating.

Granted, I am an Idaho resident, but when I think of all my friends who got into UW med, every one of them is incredibly personable and confident. Like, INCREDIBLY personable (as in, it sticks out how personable they are). Their resumes are varying degrees of "competitive," but they are all rather extroverted.

@BABSstudent do you know if the tour stays in health sciences and the hospital? Does it go to the rest of campus at all?
I was a tour guide last year! We stay in the health sciences building, go to the simulation lab and go down to the SCC. Your tour guide may take you to different things, because it is entirely open to what we want to show, but that was what I always went to.
