Hi, stats are 3.9/35
They did not give an option to choose interview dates-- assigned me to 9/25
@DrDorianTurkleton , as for your residency being marked complete but with no e-mail update about this, the same thing happened to my friend. She e-mailed the admissions office and they told her everything is fine and her app is complete. You probably resolved this already but I just thought I'd mention it

Impressive! Did you go to undergrad at UW-Madison?

Rejected OOS, complete 8/12. Guess a LizzyM of 77 didn't cut it for them :/
As you will learn throughout the cycle, a LizzyM of 77 is great but there are many more factors to consider. UW's class is made up of only ~40 OOS students, so they must screen thousands of OOS applicants based on more than just numbers alone. Regardless of the strength of your stats, applying to medical school is a humbling process; I have no doubt you will be successful in drawing IIs elsewhere.

I say this not single you out, but to remind all "high stat" applicants not to be discouraged if a few schools (especially state schools) don't want to interview you. Best of luck!

People last week got IIs on Wednesday and Thursday. Think we'll see some today? and/or tomorrow? Fingers crossed 🙂

I applied only a day or two after the first day IS applicants could apply, so hoping for news soon! Already has been a bit since I sent my secondary in!

II like 10 minutes ago while I was standing in front of UWSMPH waiting for the bus!! 😀 Submitted secondary on 8/15, IS residency verified w/ complete email 9/14. Will be interviewing on 10/23 (LizzyM~71)!

The IS committee is still mostly reviewing applications that were submitted on the first day (8/15) but they are plowing through them and looks like they will get to you pretty soon. So many people submitted the first day it was crazy!

Good luck to you and everyone else still waiting to hear 😉

Perhaps a silly question, but do they even look at your secondary app until you have your IS residency verified?

You need to be sorted into either OOS or IS pool before you can go to the respective committees for review, so the easy answer is no lol

If that's the case, how could they already have a 9/14 complete applicant already done? Do they push his to the front because he was technically done back in August?
Talking about Dr. Dorian's situation

IS, II today. 3.97/39, secondary submitted 8/15 and residency verified 9/11. interview on 11/17 but asked if I could interview on the week of 10/19. Are reschedule requests for earlier dates usually not granted?

I will PM you, but it'll still be kinda obscure haha 😛

I think that they are going according to the submission date. The residency verification is quite random since the Registrar's office does not seem to go in any particular order because many people who submitted after me on 8/15 had their residencies verified before I did. Hence, I think they are still verifying residencies from 8/15 and just looking at applications as they come into the IS pile. But that's just my guess--@Jennyfishy and @kittykattat will probably have a more thorough answer.

I think they usually don't move up dates since they fill early slots and work their way to later dates but if you have a compelling reason, then they might grant it!

Ok, I lied and it's not that simple; I only sit on the OOS com, so anything I say may be wrong despite my understanding of how we generally operate. Pretend I said nothing 😀 😀!

Edit: In other words, don't read too much into the dates of verification/II. There's multiple layers of review 😉

I am in the same situation as Dr.Dorian and I would posture that if you submit your application in August, they take a look at it and decide early whether or not you will get an interview as OOS or IS. For example, you might be placed into the interview pool as IS and placed into the rejection pool for OOS, and then once they verify your residency, they are able to send out the II or rejection earlier. This is 100% conjecture though so don't hold me to it!

Hmm, I am IS and submitted mine on 8/16 and was verified on 9/11 and I understand others submitted earlier than me have not been verified. They also asked me for more info to verify my residency. Not sure if this helps at all.

II this afternoon as well!! I am IS, submitted on 8/15 and had residency verified on 9/2.

@DrDorianTurkleton Correct and correct! The process of determining/verifying residency is a little crazy and somewhat out of our control, but after ones residency is determined, he/she is put into either the IS or OOS pool accordingly, and from there the applications are reviewed in batches every week, following more or less the order that the secondaries were submitted. But because of issues like @maotou mentioned where the school may need more info from you to determine if you are IS/OOS, some applications can get delayed and will then jump into the review pool the following week, regardless of when they submitted their secondaries.

TLDR: apps are reviewed in **roughly** the order they are received, within their respective pool (IS or OOS). IIs/rejections/holds are determined AFTER residency is determined, as voted on by the members of the specific committee they have been deemed to belong to (again, IS or OOS). Also, there are lots of steps in this process, and the admissions office is EXTREMELY busy this time of year, so you also can't assume that the day one receives a complete email is the exact day the registrar approved his/her residency. An applicant could be determined to be a WI res on Monday, thrown into the IS committee's preliminary review pool on Tues, emailed that his app is complete on Wed, Thurs, or Fri (whenever the office gets around to it), and get voted on in the next meeting the following Tues and receive an email with II that same afternoon.

Hope this clarifies things. Like @Jennyfishy said, don't put too much stock in the exact dates and times that other applicants submit/are verified/get II/etc. because with all of the steps in this process things can get a little out of order or held up here and there. It is also possible that you won't hear a decision the day, week, or even the month your application came to the committee for prelim review because some apps that were on the cusp between II and reject get held onto for further review later, to fill later interview day slots. But again, don't assume that just because you submitted at 10 am on 8/15 that you have already been reviewed and didn't get an interview... your app may have just gotten caught up somewhere in the process and will be added to a later batch of reviews. I promise no one is forgotten about

Hey, can anyone describe the interview format here? I know it's a faculty interviewer, but is the group discussion with the med students another interview that's evaluated or a q&a?
It is an "interview" (more of a conversation really) that is supposed to hold the same weight as your faculty interview. YMMV, but mine was super relaxed when I interviewed last year. You will also get the opportunity to ask them questions.

Also, anyone that is lucky enough to be interviewing this coming Friday will get the chance to observe all of us M1's freaking out about our very first exam block next week +pity+

Can you describe the medical student activity interview in more detail? like is it a pbl session?
Nope, you pretty much sit around a table and each take turns answering the same question. That was how mine went at least.

I actually didn't provide any reasons for wanting a reschedule (I did have a valid reason but did not want to babble), but they offered to interview me on October 23rd instead of November 17th! I wasn't expecting this at all so it came as a pleasant surprise. Now I will save a few hundred bucks in flight costs. UW-Madison is rising up on my wishlist with every exchange I have with them 🙂

Nice! See ya there!

Any OOS Submitted around 8/19 hear anything yet?

I also had a very pleasant exchange with them when I asked to reschedule!

Realize that I am perhaps a bit biased, but the admissions department at UW was by far the friendliest I dealt with in my application/interview experiences. They make you feel like they really really WANT you to go there (and they do!). I was still holding multiple acceptances in the spring and my faculty interviewer called me to see if there was anything else I wanted to know that could help me decide! They even sent out holiday cards last year to those accepted before the season

I can totally attest to this. I got a call from my faculty interviewer as well in the Spring making themselves open to any questions I have and to call them anytime. Ms. Shepard is also the greatest admissions coordinator of all time.

I will be withdrawing my OOS II, hope it goes to one of you! Good luck!!

I was complete 8/20 (OOS). Should I be expecting a rejection soon? lol
