2015-2016 University of Wisconsin Application Thread

II today. Application "complete" around 9/18. Interview Dec. 11. Doesn't leave much time to get accepted before Dec 15 deadline from another one of my schools..

I mean that's not a ton of clinical experience, but doesn't really seem so unreasonably low that it would be grounds for a rejection...I have less clinical experience than that so reading this makes me more than a touch nervous.
The thing that tripped them up was that I was only able to start that volunteering 6 months before submitting my AMCAS. I have a ton of hours/experiences (2.5 years worth) working with and in hospitals from a previous job, but the med school admissions advisor made it clear that the committee didn't see those hours/experiences as in any way "clinical" because they were from the IT side of things. As long as you have a longer term track record with some of your clinical activities and, like kittykattat mentions, wrote well about them, I'm sure you'll be fine.

II today!!!! I submitted 8/18, and my application completed 9/11, the day after my WI residency was verified. Can't wait! Dec. 4 interview 🙂

I got an II about a month earlier, yet our assigned interview dates differ by only 3 days haha. I really wanted an earlier date, nevertheless, knowing that about 50% of interviewees can an acceptance offer has been a comforting thought.

What do you mean Dec. 15th deadline? Per AAMC/AMCAS policies, you can hold all acceptances from medical schools until April 30th and only after that date do you have to release all acceptances but the one school you will be matriculating to. Paying a deposit or "accepting" an offer at another school is not binding for that medical school, you are still allowed to hold that along with any other schools until April 30th.

Yeah I understand that. But I don't want to pay the $500 deposit at the school I've been accepted at if I ultimately get accepted at a different school and choose to attend that one. Then I'm out $500 dollars

Aren't the deposits to save your seat refundable? Also haven't seen a place with a $500 deposit, only $100 deposits (or no deposit) from what I've seen.

The school I have been accepted to is an Osteopathic school. It is a $500 non-refundable deposit due December 14th.

Ahh makes complete sense! Just wanted to let you know that in case the school was trying to pull a fast one on ya 😛

Just receive a call - accepted into Wisconsin. OOS. Absolutely love UW!!! Among my interviews, UW definitely has the most friendly staffs and students.

Hey, mind sharing your interview date??

Congrats! Still waiting to hear back from here 🙂
Have you interviewed?
Just curious if anyone else has interviewed 10/2. I didn't get any call today so that can't be a good sign. Feeling bummed 🙁

Not all people who interview on the same day are reviewed by the committee the same week! Some people may be lucky and happen to be discussed within 2 weeks, others 4 weeks later. There's a reason we give a 4-6 week wait period 😉

This is also why you might see some folks who interviewed after you getting accepted before your interview date.

Yea I just went for the snacks because I was still in lab when it started haha

If you are from Madison or know the campus pretty well, you probably wont have many questions, but it is fun to meet a few current M1's and your competition...umm, I mean fellow interviewees...the day before 😉

I know you said this is jest BUT I just want to make sure that everyone understands that you are not competing with anyone on your interview day! Once you make it to the interview stage, you are really only "competing" with yourself. Think of your fellow interviewees as potential future classmates 😉 ... I recognize many of my current classmates from my interview day last fall!

Again, I know you were kidding and I'm not calling you out, I just want to make sure that nobody misunderstands what you said!

Completely agree with ya Glandzburg! Definitely an extremely relaxed and informative interview day and everyone was super social and talking with one another 🙂

I submitted secondary middle August and haven't got any response.
Is this normal? I am OOS. I appreciate your reply.

Hey lilyhgt! When did they send you the Complete e-mail? Hoping to hear back from UW soon too.

I wonder if they've went through/made decisions on everyone who interviewed on 10/2.

Once again everybody, they don't always review applicants in the order that they interviewed for a variety of reasons. No need to freak out just because somebody from a later interview date heard back first!

I was wondering why my residency took so long to process. I submitted 8/18 and recieved a complete email October 12th. Is that just bad luck or did I mess up? Losing a month of time in this application game can be lethal.......

I'm sorry to hear that it took so long. I believe that the verification process is done by an office that is part of the main UW Madison campus that is not run by the medical school, so I can't explain their methodology. It generally takes 1-2 months.

I can assure you, however, that it will not be lethal. If your app was strong enough to get an II a month ago, it is still strong enough now.

Just got the complete email today since my non-academic letter was very late... OOS but I work/live in Madison. I think I'm pretty much screwed here since I was complete so late, hopefully other schools come through!

Has anyone who interviewed on 10/9 gotten the decision letter? They told us to expect the letter within 4 weeks and I haven't gotten anything :/

I interviewed 10/2 and have gotten nothing. They said 4-5 weeks to us, and it has been 5 weeks now. Hoping for something soon! 🙂

On one of the sheets they gave us on interview date it says "If you do not receive a decision letter within the four weeks following your interview, please send us an email or call." Have you contacted them or are you just going to wait?
