First rejection of the cycle. 🙁. Good luck everyone! OOS so I saw it coming.

Just got the complete email now. IS. Submitted later in the afternoon on 7/15. :biglove:

For the non-academic rec letter.. does that count if your undergrad institution does committee letters?..

First reject of the season. Woohoo!!! Guess living in Wisconsin for 6 years wasn't good enough for an OOS. Good luck to everyone else this cycle.

Also rejected yesterday- really loved the idea of this school so I'm sad! But OOS so there ya go. Best of luck to everyone.

Edit: Stats in MDApps

When were you complete? I'm OOS also so trying to figure out where they are at in terms of submission dates, I hear they tend to go in order.

Has anyone IS received a form asking for more information regarding verifying residence? If yes, was it by snail mail or by email? Also have there been any IS IIs yet?

Received an II this afternoon!
Good luck to everyone as they continue their journey!

II for me too! They give you only one option, so I'm locked into Sept. 18th (they say you can email them for changes if necessary, though).

For those with IIs, are you IS or OOS?

II IS today! I was also set for September 18th automatically which I wasn't quite ready for haha I guess I better start interview preps...

When were all if you with IS IIs complete?

I received an email today asking for additional information about my family to determine residency status.

Applied here OOS, but submitted late cause I was waiting on a LOR :/. Hope they dont dock me for it, love this school.

I got an e-mail today asking about residency status, hoping to get an II soon!

Did you all get "complete" emails? I submitted on the 17th and I don't believe I ever received an email saying I was complete. Worth a call to admissions? I'm also IS.

It's possible that your residency hasn't been verified yet. I submitted on the 1st day possible last year and it took a month to verify mine. I was born here, my parents were born here, and neither they nor I have ever lived or attended school outside of WI. So I'm not sure what factors affect verification time, but it is what it is.

Alrighty, in that case I'm pretty sure confirming my residency is what is delaying my application.

If it makes you feel better, I was offered an II just a few days after verification (and interviewed just a few weeks later). So if you are a strong candidate, you'll still interview early.

II OOS California. Very unexpected, but extremely grateful. This school seems like a very good school, but I don't know anything about Wisconsin... can anyone enlighten me? lol

Congratz! When did you submit your app?

Yep, that's what I mean by "complete"... secondary, LORs, and residency (green check marks next to all three)
Does a green check next to "WI Residency Determination by UW Registrar's Office" indicate that you have indeed been deemed a resident or just that they have made a determination (and you could be labeled as a nonresident)?

So I don't know when it happened, but my residency check mark is green now on the portal but no completion email. I figure I will get that sometime this week.

Anything you know about the school specifically? Is it a good school? Of course I've looked up rankings, but I don't really trust those.

You'll have to define "good school". Every accredited medical school will give you the opportunity to get an MD. Besides that, it's more of a matter of fit (and tuition cost) than any objective measure of "good". UW SMPH offers a number of programs that I found appealing, though, our interests may vary and thus mean you'll have to review their programs yourself. If you are looking for first-hand experiences, I'm not your guy. However, three current UW SMPH students (@kittykattat, @ Glandzburg, & @Jennyfishy) wrote their thought on the school on the first page of the forum and may be willing to answer your question. @Jennyfishy is also from CA, and wrote about diversity in WI from her perspective. You'll also have a chance to ask questions on your interview day.
Fry out.

Hi everyone, I'm planning on applying to UW Madison next cycle as an IS resident. Does anyone know what materials/forms UW requests for proof of residency? Like do they require me to submit and show my tax forms/driver's license/bank statements/etc, or is just having my dad's tax forms enough?

Thank you in advance!

Just received "Complete" email. Submitted secondary on 8/15; IS.

Congrats on getting it done! Does the green check mark next to residency or the complete email mean that you have been verified as a resident? Do you get something else if you are deemed a non-resident?

That's what I am assuming since if you have that box in the first place you are claiming to be a resident, hence, getting the green check=you are resident. If they can't determine your residency I think you will get an email from the Registrar's office asking for you to provide more proof of residency, otherwise you will be a non-resident for tuition/application purposes.

They will ask you to fill in stuff on the secondary application which is used to determine residency. You don't actually have to submit any additional paperwork/forms unless you are specifically asked for them by the Registrar's office.

Thank you for the info! Do you know what kind of stuff they ask for exactly? I'm concerned because I just recently became a US permanent resident -- I went to high school in Canada and currently doing undergrad in Illinois. My dad has been working and living in WI the whole time though.

Would it be considered terribly late if I submit my secondary this week if I am IS? Does anybody have any previous experiences applying in mid september? Any info would be much appreciated!

Better late then never/You'll never know if you don't try.

That said, hve you applied to other schools yet? submitted AMCAS/had it verified? If you aren't verified, or applied anywhere else yet, you might be more likely to gain an acceptance by working over the next year, shadowing/getting clinical experience, and making sure you're ready to apply super early next cycle.

All of this really depends on your stats/general strength of the rest of your app, though. Hard to say without the rest of the info.

I second this. Absolutely not too late to try.
