2015-2016 Virginia Commonwealth University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I interviewed in December and received the post-interview survey status a couple weeks ago. Today my status changed to this "The Admissions Committee has met to discuss your file. Your application is being placed on hold for possibleacceptance at a later date. We anticipate making offers around October 16, December 15, February 1, and March 16. If any of these dates falls on a weekend the offers will be made on the following Monday. Only offers of admission will be made on the dates above." For others who have interviewed is this a normal status? It's making me nervous
Yes that's the status I have after interviewing awhile ago.

Well, thanks to this lovely blizzard I'm being buried under, i have to reschedule my interview. Anyone have any insight how they are about that?

I doubt you'll have a problem. It's not like you're missing it because you overslept. I'd leave a message today just for CYA and then call again bright and early when they're open.

Second this...my connecting flight is cancelled. It looks like the Richmond airport is closed. Seems unlikely that I will be able to make my Monday interview. I emailed them and plan to call Monday morning. I'm sure we are not the only ones..

I also have the Monday interview and my flights have been cancelled twice already. I'm really hoping my third flight will get me there in time. Fingers crossed. Best of luck to everyone battling snow storm jonas. I'm sure the VCU admissions office will be understanding with the situation.

EDIT: Flight has been cancelled for a third time. I'm accepting my fate that I will not get to see Richmond on Monday 🙁

To my peers who have been wondering if they were still in the running if they received their secondary in the past several weeks: you are! Literally just got this status update.

"The committee's file review indicates that they are interested in your candidacy. However, due to the increase in the applicant pool this year, it is clear we MAY be unable to interview all the candidates at your priority score. If we do find that we are able to grant an interview you will be notified by e-mail."

Assuming you guys also got that call earlier. Ive never in my life heard to respond via text before! Guessing they were anticipating this. Richmond also got hit pretty hard. We ended up with over two feet!!

It took 16 weeks for me to receive my secondary. That was, oh, 3 months ago. And I STILL have not received a status update. **** this school.
I was complete at the beginning of August, and I still don't have a status update either. I feel like the school could have at least put the not interested status on the portal.

Same here! I was complete early August and nothing. Hopefully they'll get to us eventually... 🙁

Does VCU accept letters of intent?

"Does VCU accept update letters to applications for admission?
The only updates that we accept are grades from courses that were completed after an application was submitted and academic publication material that was published after an application was submitted. We do not accept letters of interest."

Thanks!

Any chance anyone has any idea how much VCU likes publications? A paper I am a co-author on just got published and I sent an update and I hope this turns into good news on February 1st!

Just got the third status update: "The committee's file review indicates that they would like to consider your file further." So we'll see what happens. (Complete 8/12) This school is really really slow at this.

Just got the "may" status after submitting back in July. I'm doubtful at this point that it'll lead to anything

If I get May status, or any status, in the next month. Will they still consider me for an interview while I am an MS1? lol

Been lurking on this thread for a while and it has been super helpful so I wanted to post for everyone still waiting. Complete early July with LizzyM <70. I got the second status last week and an interview invite this evening (their usual ~6:30 timing). They still seemed to have a lot of dates / times open for February. Good luck everyone and don't lose hope!

are the february dates the last possible interview dates?

For anyone who is wondering, I called admissions this morning and the nice lady said that they ARE still planning to extend potential acceptances on Monday, February 1!

Were they not going to give out any acceptances on feb 1st or something?

Their portal says "around" December 15th, February 1st, etc., so I wanted to know if they planned on sending out an update on the 1st (especially since the snow could have put them behind). Also, I hated waiting on December 15th for an update when it didn't come until the next day, so I wanted to be sure so I didn't have to live through that anxiety again.

Still haven't even been reviewed... there is only one month left... and Dr. Whitehurst-Cook just told me to wait it out... at this point... I am guessing it is a silent rejection 🙁

So, I interviewed over a month and a half ago and my portal still says that my interview is scheduled. I haven't heard anything about a post-interview survey or status update or anything. Has this happened to anyone else? I was really hoping to hear something next week, and I don't know if I should get my hopes up since I haven't heard anything yet.

Yes, I was in the same boat and felt a bit concerned! But I called the admissions office this morning and I think they just forgot to update it or something. The woman on the phone was pretty confused as to why I hadn't gotten the survey yet, she put a note under my name and said if it doesn't update within a few days I should call again. You could probably just give them a call tomorrow morning! Overall I'm hoping it's not that big of an issue. I don't think they've reviewed us yet. I asked if she thought I'd be reviewed before Feb 1, and she said yes definitely. I hope so, considered there's only a few days left! *Fingers crossed*

Thank you so much! I was beginning to think that they just forgot I interviewed or something haha.

I'm in the same boat. When I called last week, the person I spoke with assured me that I would be reviewed in enough time to be considered. It doesn't seem like VCU would do a silent rejection given that they have a rejection status in addition to a variety of hold statuses. What would be the point? Like you, however, I cannot help but notice that time is running out...!

First of all congrats!! What is the "may" status?

Thanks! According to SDN it's the second best status to get, but essentially it said "we're interested in interviewing you but may not have enough slots to do so."

All that waiting and nagging payed off 😉

Not sure what you're talking about because I have definitely been super patient and calm throughout VCU's review process.

Calling the admissions office every week it seems like 😛

I haven't gotten any status change except once in October but it changed back to the regular one. What is going on?

If one receives a post-interview hold can we assume we are being considered in time for the next round of offers?
