Does anyone know how long after the committee meets that you get an email/letter in the mail?
the committee meets on Tuesdays. I received an acceptance email on that Thursday, but they don't do emails for waitlist/rejection. Acceptance you'll get an email within a couple of days and then a letter in the mail, anything just the letter, the timeline of which I guess would just depend on where you are.

Haven't gotten an email today so I am sure a letter will be coming in the mail for me 🙁

Hello all, OOS here with an interview next month. I am trying to figure out the best way to get to morgantown. So I guess the closest big airport is Pittsburgh international and then you can take the grey line to morgantown? The only problem is the grey line runs only twice a day at 10:00 AM and 9:00 PM which is making finding a flight where I don't have to wait 5 hours at the airport for the bus very difficult. I am from MI and the drive is only 5 and half hours so I am considering that as well. Any suggestions? I called the admissions department by the way and they were not very helpful...

There's unfortunately not a whole lot of other options if you don't want to rent a car from the Pittsburgh airport. Megabus goes from Pittsburgh to Morgantown, but it doesn't go to the airport so you would have to take a cab to the bus station, which would be really annoying. There's a small airport in Morgantown, but the flights are pretty expensive. I hope something works out!!

I do not recommend using the Morgantown taxi service; it is very unreliable.

Honestly driving is going to be much easier and less of a hassle. If you think about it, going to the airport, checking in, boarding, etc. will all more than likely take around the 5 or so hours so you're not really saving any time. Parking is very easy the day of and you just have one less thing to worry about that's out of your control for the interview. I was also a 5 hour drive and didn't even think of flying.

Does anyone know how the waitlist moves? Is it like a rolling type of waitlist, where applicants are numerically ordered based on interview day/waitlist date?

On my interview day they said there was no ranking and that they just periodically review all of the waitlist applicants and pull people off of the list depending on what they feel they need.

Waitlist letter this morning, OOS, Interviewed 12/3

Was hoping for better news, but at least it is not a rejection!

Rejected post-interview, OOS, interviewed on 12/2. I felt most confident with this interview; the letter was soul-crushing. Good luck to everyone else.

Ahh sorry to hear that, Shumway. That's a bummer :/ I interviewed with you on 12/2 as well. So I'll probably learn of my fate when I get home from work today or tomorrow

Any acceptances today? I thought I was told that they would be sending out decisions today.

I got an email saying, they've made a decision on my application but they can't tell me until I fulfill the remainder of my undergraduate requirements. ~ Looks like the waiting game all over again.

In case anyone wants an earlier interview date I had to reschedule mine until March, but it was Feb 8th!

Waitlist via snail mail yesterday, OOS so not terribly surprised, interviewed just a couple weeks ago

Accepted 12/22, West Virginia Resident.

Accepted 12/23! Interviewed 12/16 OOS! Literally took 1 week to get a decision

If he is the PBL coordinator then yes! And thank you for both!

Yes, it was all very laid back and felt like everyone really wanted to get to know me. Had a great time with my host and was able to sit in on a class and explore the town with her friends! Hoping for good news come Tuesday!

FWIW, I loved Dr. Hardy.

Been keeping up with this thread for a while now, but in case I missed anything... My interview is coming up soon and I'm beginning to prepare. Can anyone spare a few minutes please to quickly rehash their own interview day experience, helpful info/tips about the WVU program or the area, general advice, info about driving to/staying in the area, etc.?

Very excited but I don't know as much as I'd like to about the school or the area. Please and thank you!

so, it's pretty much confirmed that acceptances are by E-mail? I interviewed there early Jan and the admissions lady said that everything will be sent by the snail mail, nothing by E-mail. The assistant dean also said that decisions for my interview group were made this Tuesday, meaning I'm either rejected or on the wait list =[

They told us everything no matter what was snail mail. Accepted, rejected or waitlist would all be through the mail, no email.

Anyone here who interviewed last week have heard anything from the school yet?

A heads up to people since this winter seems to be repeating last winter: have a sturdy car and be prepared for snowy hills and terrible pothole-ridden asphalt.

Agreed. Don't think your Honda Civic will make it around these hills when it snows in the winter. No worries, though, if you're not planning to get a vehicle with all wheel drive. There are plenty of good apartments within walking distance of school and Morgantown is a safe place to walk around.

(And Mo-town is notorious for horrible potholes. It seemed every week for 1 month or so last year someone I knew lost a tire to a pothole. The town charges employees $4 a week in taxes from their paychecks for road repairs. We're not sure where the money goes.)

Its all about the snow tires. I have a Honda Civic and can usually get around just about everywhere! Doesn't help with the potholes though haha

Hello current WVU medical students! Can you give me some insights on the CCMD788(Seletive experience)?
Is it a required elective? If not, did you take it and why?

It looks like that's the name of the course you enroll in for 4th year electives so yes, everyone does this. The caption below explains it and 4th year electives a little better. Hope that helps!

Everyone takes exactly the same courses until 4th year with few exceptions: what you do with the summer after 1st year (some do externships, some do research, some do nothing, etc.) and 4 weeks of electives in 3rd year (2 weeks of surgical electives and 2 weeks of non-surgical electives. The latter will be new next year so you won't find much about it online).

Edit: the eastern campus does something significantly different for 3rd year. I forgot about that. It's still the same gist of what we do in Morgantown and Charleston though.

Does anyone know when there is movement off of the waitlist or if there has been already?

I am also wondering about this lol. Do they give you a final decision by March or is it possible until June?

Waitlisted via mail today. Staying optimistic though!

Does anyone have any idea what percentage of OOS interview applicants get waitlisted? It seems like not many actually get rejected post-interview. Also, I'm assuming they don't send out explicit rejections for waitlisted applicants until August (if any are sent at all!).

PS shoutout to Ben and Brandon! If I get accepted, I owe you both a round of brews (or coffee) for giving such an informative tour. Really down to earth guys.

I've heard the majority of OOS interviewees are waitlisted but that the waitlist does see a lot of movement. I don't have real numbers though, sorry!

As far as I know, most of the movement is in May with some trickling in the rest of the summer.

Most OOS interviewers get waitlisted (as was mentioned above). A few are rejected. They don't give out end of cycle rejections as far as I know. The school year just begins and you just assume you didn't get in. Kind of harsh, but I guess they want to keep their options open for as long as possible.

Does anyone know when they release their financial aid/scholarships package to accepted students?

Does anyone know when they release their financial aid/scholarships package to accepted students?
At least my year they didn't release it until late May/early June. It was a bit frustrating. The WVU SOM financial aid website has a good estimate though. Scholarships are few and far between and usually only around $5,000/year.

Does anyone know when they release their financial aid/scholarships package to accepted students?

From what I've seen, the people who get full-ride scholarships tend to be WV residents from a particularly underserved part of the state or with a goal of staying in the most rural parts of WV. And like Mountaineer12 said, those are few (like 1-2). There are a lot of other small scholarships available. If you look up the scholarships on the website and see that you qualify for one with unique criteria (minority, parent with kids, etc...) then contact financial aid. They won't necessarily know you qualify unless you tell them.

If you're not offered a scholarship but need additional help, contact financial aid. If nothing else, there's a WV loan that will get paid off for you if you stay in state a few years after completing residency. If you change your mind and work elsewhere, you pay it back with interest like a regular loan.

Aren't schools required to give you their financial aid package before so you can decide which school you plan to attend before the decision deadline of April 30th?

I've heard that, but I swear I didn't get mine until really late. I could be remembering incorrectly, but I feel like these was some reason they got them out really late and were just directing people to the WVU SOM financial aid website because that has estimates +/- a few thousand. I assume we would have known if we had gotten a big scholarship prior to this. I would ask the student services office. They'll know better than me. Maybe I just have a terrible memory (after almost 4 weeks on surgery I wouldn't be surprised! Haha).

Okay so I think I know the answer to this but I want to double check, does West Virginia accept extra letters of recommendations for applicants that are still on the waitlist?

Interviewed here recently and all i have to say is what a great experience. Unsure as far as what my chances are (OOS), but man, that interview was what i believe an interview should be all about, and this school is what i believe a medical school should be all about. It was a very humbling experience, and it makes me extremely proud to have been given an opportunity

Waitlisted via pony express the other day. OOS average stats and ECs.

Really loved the school and the area and honestly I felt like I bombed the interview so it was a relief to get a small envelope and not have it be a rejection. Fingers crossed for some list movement in the coming months!
