dang. Okay thanks. Really hoping this school pulls through. I like the rural clinical opportunities. I wish I could tell them that before they read my primary haha

Did you express your passion for rural medicine in your primary? If so, you should be fine.

No worries! Primary was submitted on 8/10 (the day that I was verified), so at least the turn around time was pretty quick! Hoping one comes your way soon 🙂

Looks like interviews are starting this week! Good luck everyone! I was just browsing last year's thread and it seems like they mostly ask you questions about your AMCAS activities.

I'm in the same boat. My PS was about the catalyst that caused me to pursue medicine. I didn't have space to say why rural medicine or an underserved focus, but one of my volunteer experiences was with underserved adolescents in the foster system, I'm hoping they see that and give me a shot. I was thinking about calling to clarify or do something, but idk what will make the difference?
 
Interviewing here soon. Can anyone give me a quick run down on what each of the three campuses have to provide? Unique aspects of each?

Morgantown is the main campus. Pros: you don't have to move!, it's a pretty big hospital. Cons: there's a lot of residents, interns, 4th years, etc. that you have to compete with to get to do anything.

Charlestown is the second biggest. Pros: not a college town, less people so you get to do more. Cons: you have to move, there's not as much to do as there is in Morgantown, the hospitals are spread around the city.

Martinsburg is small, only like 10 people go there. Pros: very small so you get to do a lot, near DC, Hagerstown, Wincester. Cons: have to move, not many classmates there, very small hospital.

No problem! When in doubt, I would pick Morgantown. It's much easier to switch from Morgantown to Charleston than the other way around. Nothing against Charleston, it's just that most people don't want to move. Those that pick Eastern/Martinsburg are usually really interested in rural health and know that's 100% where they want to go third year. If you don't know, pick Morgantown because that keeps your options open for a trade when you start first year.

It's really relaxed. It's two on one and they really just want to get to know you. They focused a lot on my ECs and minor degree. Why WV and why WVU is a big one, especially if you're from OOS. Don't lie and tell them what you think they want to hear because they really just want to get to know you for you. It's not a very scary interview at all!

Interviewed here a few days ago. It was a good experience. Staff was kind, lunch was tasty, other applicants were friendly. Interview itself wasn't too bad either. Just be ready to answer questions regarding your application (both primary and secondary). I guess the worst part is the wait for a response, which is mid October. Oh well, haha.

So if I left home around 1 or 2 pm from new jersey to morgantown on a weekday, would I hit traffic at any point during my drive?
 
hey sdn friends! i'm OOS and just interviewed here today and seriously fell in love with the school, the town, and all the people. the whole day was just incredibly well organized and they really went out of their way to make sure you felt relaxed, not hungry, and happy. the interview itself was very laid back and casual. There were around 12 people there today, and they split us into two groups. 6 people interviewed with two interviewers and the other 6 interviewed with two different ones. They have brief bios of the interviewers with a picture and their name in the room where you will be waiting before your interview which you can review before. the interviewers have your AMCAS in front of them and will definitely ask you questions about your ECs. It's very relaxed and conversational. It's easy to say don't be nervous, but really don't be. They just wanna get to know you better and see if you are an honest and genuine person. It seemed like they had reviewed my application (including my secondary essays) pretty extensively beforehand because they had highlighted and starred things on my AMCAS. They also take a lot of notes while you talk, but don't let it freak you out! They just wanna make sure they can advocate for you as best as they can when they sit down with the rest of the admissions committee to make decisions. They told us they would let us know of their decision by October 15th for regular decision and October 1st for ED. Overall, the day was very laid back and enjoyable. I was very impressed with the hospital, the classrooms/sim labs, and the med students seemed happy. PM me if you have any other questions or wanna know more about the interview day. If you go by any cities you may. Morgantown itself can get some bad traffic, especially around rush hour.

II scheduled for 10/28. OOS from New York, no ties. MCAT: 30, GPA: 3.9. First II but third interview scheduled
 
Did anyone receive a secondary a not get an II? it's been almost a week since I submitted and haven't heard anything. Maybe because of the labor day weekend?

No, it's because it has only been a week. You may not hear anything for months.
 
For those of you who interviewed with me on 9/2, they make our decisions today :O ... we don't find out for a month or so but let's cross our fingers!

So should we expect to hear something on October 15th? Or does it sometimes take longer than that? I'm getting nervous/anxious already haha

I submitted mine over a week ago and still no II, I was getting nervous also because it seemed people in the past got theirs the next day. But no one on the thread has posted IIs since I turned mine in last week so that is a little comforting

You won't have to wait a full month. They say it'll take that long, but they're surprisingly efficient.

They literally told us that they can't let us know until October 15th. That's a day they repeated to us on interview day.

Ah. Didn't know that... then in that case let me rephrase...

For interviewees after 10/15, it won't take a full month to receive a decision. They are surprisingly efficient. 🙄
 
Received a secondary (12 days ago... but it got lost in my email, not in my spam folder either).

Edit: Just realized they have a strict 2 week policy. Guess I will be finishing this one today

Double Edit: Does this mean my LOR have to be in within 2 weeks as well? My committee letter won't be in until Friday

I just noticed on the secondary that they state your LOR must be sent in before your interview. Does this mean they don't consider LOR as part of their interview decision?

Don't worry, the LORs don't need to be submitted before the 2 week deadline, only before the actual interview. I received an II before my LORs were added to my AMCAS so you should be fine.

Phew, I am just about done with the essays/trying to submit tonight so that is definitely a load off haha

Must be something that they factor into the interview/final decision
 
For those who have interviewed already, if you were OOS and had to fly in, what airport did you fly in and out of and what shuttle service did you use/would you recommend it?
