2016-2017 Central Michigan University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
The interviews days will be taking place through March. Out of 16 interview days, about 14 or 15 are done, so one or two are still left and another member was indicating that she checked in with the Admins and they have indicated that not all IIs have been sent out thus far!
Thank you ! That gives me some hope 🙂

Since the admissions committee meeting is on Feb15th for an admissions decision, does anyone possibly have an idea of when the next meeting for deciding II/making interview offers would be ? Don't mean to be impatient, just curious 🙂

"I wanted to write a quick note and let you know of a change in our Admissions Committee meeting date. Originally, the committee was scheduled to meet on February 13th, but due to various conflicts we have rescheduled this meeting to February 15th. This date change will mean that we are not going to be able to provide you with an admissions decision until February 16th. Thank you for your understanding and patience. - Chris Austin"
Well... I've been waiting almost 10 months now for some positive results from this cycle so 3 more days of waiting is alright I guess... I'm getting anxious/nervous!
Was that sent to all applicants on the waitlist? I never received that message

Im
Well, I personally don't think uploading a thank you in your application documents is a very good idea. At the very least it should be emailed personally but really a mailed or handwritten letter would suggest the most well-planned thank you. Just my opinion. More so, I get the impression that the additional documents are for things specific to your application that they should know to enhance your admissibility. So a thank you note might not fit that category. As far as uploading an additional doc, I uploaded one but didn't get any sort of confirmation. I may call to confirm that it uploaded this week.

Honestly, I don't have a choice. I went straight to Africa following my interview...and I'm still here. Just going to hope for the best

Dose anyone know when the best time would be to send a letter of Intent? I have been reading early April or April 15.

Just got an II. See you guys on the 24th if you're going to be there. A bit apprehensive, but looking forward to the group activity!
I'm in your interview group! I will be staying at the hotel on campus.

There is hope! Last minute hope! I am everywhere but yet nowhere. :|

Is it just admissions decisions coming out today, or are we expecting II today as well? Since next Friday is the last Friday in Feb, I am guessing today is the last day to expect II ?

Thanks, trying to stay positive. I had the email come through around 10:45 this morning.

From what I gathered during my interview, a decent amount of interviewees held multiple interviews. Let's just hope these super stars, give us wee folks a chance :ninja:

I was also placed on hold. What exactly does this mean? Is this a silent rejection? Or are there limited spots on the waitlist?

From what I understood from reading the old thread (I was also put on hold in December) it's like one notch below the waitlist. You can go from hold to waitlist to accept but not hold to accept. But someone did say that the entering class this year had about 10 kids in it who were originally put on hold!

Yeah I believe that's correct. Being on hold is below being on the waitlist. But my thought was, can you get waitlisted before all the regular spots have been offered? I don't know if this makes sense but.... If all the normal spots haven't been offered, how can a "waitlist" even exist yet? Maybe some of the hold applicants will be shifted to the waitlist once they officially offer up all the spots?

Or maybe I'm just trying to be optimistic here.

Oh ok, well that's a little encouraging. I wonder how much movement they will have this cycle. I guess all of us on hold are feeling the same things, makes me feel less alone. The waiting is hard and I don't know if it's silly to be hopeful.

Yeah you can, because it's kind of like "well we don't like you enough to outright give you a spot, but if someone we like more than you drops, then we would be happy to let you have a seat", which is why people can be waitlisted along the way

I always expect the worst, so then I am pleasantly surprised if something good happens. So I guess expect the worst and hope for the best?

I think that's the largest disadvantage right now. I know I didn't complete my secondary until mid-October. Definitely could have negatively affected things.

When I interviewed back in early January one of the speakers said that a hold also sometimes mean the committee wasn't able to completely evaluate your application, like they ran out of time or something.

Sorry to hear about the holds and waitlists, but at least you all had a chance at the interview and probably admissions acceptance , you never know !! 🙂

As someone who hasn't received an II at this point, and my application status as interview decision pending but application complete, its been a looooong wait, however I just found out that II are going out until the end oF February. But being a Canadian student /applicant here and waiting for so long till now, and only a week more to go, it seems unlikely to get one 🙁 but still hoping for the best .....any other Canadians here waiting for an interview decision ?

Just got a pre-II rejection 2 minutes ago for what it's worth to you

Pre-II rejection, complete back in July. I knew it wasn't going to happen this late in the game and that I had a very slim shot as OOS. Oh well.

Maybe it's because we interviewed so late into the cycle?
Lol I was put on hold in December and interviewed on the 4th interview day...so they must have really not liked me

Did anyone from last interview get an acceptance? Someone in this thread mentioned timing of interviews doesn't really matter for Cmed, but I'm starting to think otherwise. Regardless im pumped for my interview tomorrow!!!🙂

Pre II rejection today, complete in July. Lizzy M 69. Can't wait to get some feedback from CMED, rather disappointed in this one.

Did anyone get accepted today? They said to expect a decision today, but I didn't hear anything back. Nothing on the portal either. Decision was originally supposed to come out Tuesday, too. So more delays, I guess.

I am still waiting to hear back as well. I never got anything either.

Pre-II rejection at 2:00 pm today 🙁 Good luck to everyone else

You guys with all these rejections, waitlists, and holds it makes me wonder if this school is doing something different this year? Has anyone been accepted? I'm guessing if you haven't heard back today you might have a phone call with an acceptance or II tmrww? Idk at this point all I have is hope to try again next year...I'm not giving up on my dream.

Three things:

1. A waitlist or hold likely means: the school likes you, and wants to wait for a seat to open up for you. I have brilliant and compassionate classmates who were waitlisted a very long time... and are now helping me study drugs. A hold might mean many things, one of which being they haven't made any decision yet.

2. There is no such thing as an interview being "too late" in the cycle. You have an interview, you have a chance, earn that chance by giving the interview your all.

3. Not hearing back about an interview result when everyone else got their email CAN be a good sign. Make sure your phone is handy tomorrow.

All that said, don't give up if you don't get in. You're a doctor, you just need to make it to the next step. Keep trying, your dream will only fail when you quit trying.

So is Hold for further consideration just a softer way of saying, "If we have any spots left after our last interview acceptances + entire Waitlist, then we'll get back to you?" =P

Do you know of any classmates who came off the Hold list?

Hi everyone! I received an acceptance today via email (no phone call)at 11:30 AM. My stats: 498 MCAT, 3.83 GPA, non-traditional student. I have done a lot of volunteering and research (organic chemistry) along with other extracurriculars.
Do not lose hope! :soexcited:

If I may ask was it something that came with you acceptance package? or something you got after matriculation
sorry for the late reply. something i got a few months after being accepted, but before i matriculated. was still deciding between CMED and UToledo
