2016-2017 Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
There has been at least 1 SDN user to report being accepted via the portal without receiving a call in the last two years. I would assume if Dr. Q doesn't call his interviewees that are accepted they will just get a portal update tomorrow and no call beforehand. This is all speculation though.

Does anyone know what time they updated the portal in previous years?

The last two years they updated the next day. Updates weren't all at once but it seemed like most updates happened by noon.

How many physicians do interviews? There must be close to 30

i really wish schools would just do emails. i understand the notion behind a personal phone call, but it just means we all feel tortured for a full day-day and a half..why not just bite the bullet and send it all at once?

Most applicants aren't sitting on SDN and thus the intention is that the applicant will be pleasantly surprised by the call without the anxiety of knowing calls are going out. However, I doubt that schools will change their admissions behavior just because a place like SDN exists.

That is ridiculous Lol, no one is forcing you to use SDN to get admissions updates.

someone should show the last few pages of this thread to the faculty members.. LOL

maybe it will inspire them to stop the torture for next year's class

Sorry to bug you but also Wen did you interview?

Will probably move on at 4, more than likely most physicians have had 5 minutes to spare to make a call today

You never know! They likely have several calls to make. Don't give up hope just yet.

Accepted at 230 PM ET!

Did anybody else feel that they had an almost unfair advantage? I got incredibly lucky in that my interviewer seemed to be very into my story due to his own experiences matching mine. Didn't really get this at other schools.

Who'd you interview with?

I feel similarly, but wouldn't call it unfair. The same sort of coincidence is possible everywhere else. I simply feel incredibly thankful I had an interviewer who could let me be myself and show how much I loved the program.
