2016-2017 Texas A&M Health Science Center Application Thread

Just curious where you heard this, looking at last years thread OOS applicants were receiving acceptances a week or two after Oct 15th. Either way hoping to get good news tomorrow!
I don't remember her name, but it was the admissions director! Maybe she meant soon after the 15th? But the gist was that's Iran pretty much all at once at the beginning of the cycle.

any fellow OOS people heard anything yet? wasn't sure if they would come out with decisions at midnight or once they open today, but I haven't gotten any news

All quiet over here

I emailed them and they said they've extended the OOS offers this morning, so admission will be rolling from now on. congrats to you guys who got acceptances!

Yup, they made it clear at Temple that she just got to the app first, and where you interview doesn't effect anything. I'm glad I got Temple, they had a great presentation! Side note, they also said they read this thread and the Lizzy M thing drives them nuts since it's not a holistic review of your app!

Can attest, Temple student who will see y'all tomorrow. LizzyM makes me lol

how and when do they choose which clinical site to send students to?

Why no love from you, Texas A&M? I interviewed here in December 2 years ago, so I was realllllllly hoping they would interview me again considering that my MCAT improved

Hoping to hear back from A&M soon 🙁

Submitted my secondary in early August, but still under review.

It doesn't make sense that they would interview you with a lower MCAT but not with a higher one! I'm sure you'll get a II!

Does anyone know around what time the mixer in Temple is at?

Trying to figure out if I can leave work early enough the day before my interview to make it!

6:00pm, but we're often there for an hour or two, so as long as you're there before 7 you won't miss much

How is the post interview acceptance decision made here? Is it purely deterministic by interview performance or does the application re-emerge and factors such as secondary essays, MCAT, GPA, hours, activities, etc. play a role?

They said they look at everything after interviews.

The good news is if you get an interview, you have almost a 75% chance of acceptance since A&M is picky about who they grant interviews to 🙂

I like those odds! Anyone know how many pre-match offers they normally give or what their process is for that?

Do you have a source for this? USNWR reports 54%.

There's no way it's 75%. I believe it's around 50%, from what I've read.

Can confirm, ~50% based on previous data of interviews/acceptances offered.

As awesome as it would be for this to be true, I believe the numbers from last year were a shade under 50% :/

I do have the theory I posted in another TX school thread that post-II acceptance rates for TX schools are artificially deflated due to the match system, but that's just speculation.

The match def has it's pros and cons. I would like if all schools were prematch heavy though, while still keeping the match.

Oh, it's nothing fancy haha. I was just thinking that because of the match, there are a lot of "acceptances" that don't actually get recorded as one. For example: You rank school A number 1 and school B number 2. School A has you on their match list, so you match. But, school B also had you on their match list, but you never hear of an acceptance from there because you already matched to a higher ranked school. So if a school only accepts 50% of applicants, your individual chances of acceptance might actually be higher than that, because the number of acceptances reported is less than actually would be given out if not for the match system. This is just my anxious brain being overactive before prematch though, so I have nothing to actually back this up.
