2016-2017 University of California - Los Angeles (Geffen) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I received the secondary last week and was going to submit it when I realized that I may not meet the prereqs...wanted to confirm that UCLA doesn't accept AP credits and that all courses must be fulfilled in college. I may have to withdraw my app if so....

I think you have until before you officially start school to meet the prerequisites. So you could take them the summer before, and I think you should be fine. Can someone else chime in?

I'm pretty sure. That's the whole reason I took calc again in college, when I already had AP credit for it.

Yeah, that really sucks. I'm oos too. Probably should've double checked before I applied here, and I already graduated, so prob won't be able to get the classes in at this point

Does anyone know if theres an area to store luggage in the admissions office?

Any post secondary rejections? Low key thinking of sending an update / plsInterviewMe letter

is anyone else still waiting for a secondary invite?

I got rejected pre secondary on 11/20 last cycle but I really improved my app/stats since last year so I'm hoping they'll send me once soon

Hey! CA resident here. I've submitted my primary the first week it opened....and still have not heard from UCLA (either for a secondary or a rejection). This is the only school I have not received a secondary from....very confused

yeah i've gotten secondaries from most UCs besides for UCLA and UCSF...i thought passing the screen at UCSD would mean that I would pass the screen at UCLA since i heard both are pretty rigorous

fingers crossed for the both of us!

It's very confusing and frustrating but all we can do is be patient, remain hopeful, and pray!

We might end up somewhere we have rarely thought we'd go but it may be where we actually belong.

I got secondaries from UCSD and UCSF early on in July, and just got the UCLA one recently. There's no rhyme or reason.

I received a Secondary recently, (Submitted early June), but I was wondering how one would withdraw their application. There's no email listed on the site, and there's one on the secondary that sounds like it's just tech assistance.

Just don't turn in the secondary...

when do we hear back with decisions?
plz don't start this lol...so anxious about this. Worst part is they were so ambiguous about it...they said they would TRY to send decisions earlier but who the hell knows what that means. Really just expecting decisions early next year.

Hopefully by Feb or March!

For anyone who has interviewed, is it 2 minutes to the read prompt / write down thoughts, and 8 minutes for the interview?

Last year, they went out in February and I think that's only for those who interviewed in Sept and Oct. I really hope earlier!

Also hoping for this! Can anyone who interviewed already comment on what they said about it this year? 🙂

For those of you that have interviewed here, what exactly are the MMIs like? Is it just a handful of scenarios or are there acting/partner prompts? Also, I've heard of MMIs that end in a 30ish minute long traditional interview with all of the "why medicine" and "why this school" questions; do UCLA interviews have such a traditional component as well?

You can't talk about it- a non disclosure statement is signed prior to the interview

Ah, I knew that the exact questions couldn't be discussed but I didn't realize that the NDA applied to the format of the MMIs as well. Thanks!

I just called. Apparently after you submit your secondary, it may take up to 4 week to process and then send a confirmation email. The receptionist said in that email there should be a form that allows for updates.

Did anyone ever find away to send an application update? Even when I log in to the application status page, I can only locate a way to update contact info. And they specifically say that they do not monitor their email inbox...

During the interview they said we could just email them...but apparently not?

Current DGSOM MS1 here--last year I did have a post-interview update, which I sent over email. They emailed me back to acknowledge receipt of it and added it to my file within a few days. I don't remember being told that they don't monitor their email inbox, but I suppose it's possible things have changed this year.

Good luck to everyone, and please don't hesitate to reach out with questions to any of us on this thread, or to your tour guides who gave you their emails! When it came time for me to decide between med schools last year, I remember bugging several current students from each school with a barrage of questions, and the DGSOM students in particular were very helpful with telling me what I needed to make an informed decision.

According to last years thread, rejections for post secondary people began mid November. So the guillotine should be plummeting sometime soon.

Got one from UCSF (surprisingly), they rejected me pre-II though. That's it. I'm also OOS so that probably doesn't help

Congrats! I got one from UCSD and UCR, rejected pre secondary from UCD and silence from UCSF and UCI (and UCLA)

Oh my god... I just received an interview.... I'm absolutely speechless. I didn't think I was going to get one from anywhere this cycle

Congrats! Time to prep for the MMI 🙂
are interview dates open to February now?
