Rejected post-secondary 513 MCAT, 3.97 masters gpa, lower ugpa, OOS, application submitted 6/30

Got a rejection here yesterday too. So weird how I'm only getting IIs from my "reach" schools and a "safer" school. Not getting any love from my "target" schools whatsoever. This process is bizarre as hell.

Hi all! I'm a current MS-1 and it's been lovely seeing some of you parading through the truly rank anatomy lab in your Sunday best. Haven't seen too much activity from Pitt students on here yet, so I figured I'd pop in to answer any questions you might have about the application process, Pitt, Pittsburgh(within the scope of a first year's knowledge) and just shamelessly plug this fantastic institution.

I've lived in Pittsburgh the past 8 years and went to pitt for undergrad so I can answer questions about the area too! (not so much about the med school)

But for real though, how cold does it get? Like, how does one go to the gym to workout? Do you just get super dressed up, then take it all off in the locker room? As someone who never steps foot into the locker room, it just sounds so strange haha. California for ya.

I am actually super excited for the cold, in an odd way.

From California, lived in Pittsburgh for ten years and went to Pitt undergrad. Tbh it can get real cold, and some days in the winter it can get warm out of nowhere. You really never know with Pittsburgh (unlike eternally 75-95 degree weather in CA). Yeah pretty much. Just put on a coat and jeans and then change.

I definitely understand. It was nice to have seasons for a change. Now I want to go back to year round summer 😛

Yeah it can get cold. The twenty minute walk to classes in a foot of snow and crazy windchill was not fun. Get a giant down coat (like the one that goes to your knees at least) and hats and scarves and mittens. Don't skimp money on them. Also need to invest in some good winter boots. This is only the really bad weather though, and you don't really experience it for the whole winter, just some patches. This past winter for example has been very mild. At the gym I would just wear sweats and my coat over my gym clothes and stuff them into a cubby when I got there and change into sneakers. At the Pete (the main gym on campus) you wouldn't even have to go down to the locker room.

I guess I'm a sweet summer's child as of now haha. Hopefully I get the chance to experience this next year! :xf:

Thanks for posting! So I've been interested in Pitt for a while, and I have a few questions about the school. What can you say about the student body about Pitt? What do students do for fun/what are the facilities like? What do you think of your academic experience so far?

Headless fetuses (fetii?) were pretty jarring but the anatomy professor had such a good vibe! 9/10 could totally see myself at pitt someday if i'm lucky enough to get accepted

Does this school accept post-secondary updates to application? On a side note, haven't heard anything for a month now...is this good or bad news? or somewhere in the middle...

Anyone know if UPMC offers campus tours? I only see undergraduate UPitt tours and open houses, but nothing for prospective medical students

UPMC is the hospital system, not the medical school. I don't think they offer official tours of the med school that's not during the interview day, but you can certainly stop by the admissions office if you're in the area.

II today! LizzyM ~73, decent ECs, OOS, complete mid August. Definitely surprised by this one! dates open as early as September and a ton in November

Congrats on your interview, glad to hear you're excited about Pitt! The folks I've met thus far are great, genuinely nice and wicked smart. I'm not surprised at all by how intelligent and hardworking my classmates are, but I've really been blown away by how friendly and supportive the student body is. Can't speak to how this compares to other schools, obviously, but Pitt's got a strong sense of community with lots of peer and faculty mentoring programs built in to really capitalize on that supportive spirit. Sports/exercise/outdoor activities (hiking, biking) seem to dominate in terms of extracurriculars, which is probably pretty typical at most schools, but there are plenty of artistically inclined students (music, dance, visual arts) with a smattering of other unique hobbies represented as well. Leaving facilities for last since there's less to gush about. For sure, Pitt Med had one of the least aesthetically pleasing buildings of the ones I visited and offers fewer amenities than some schools. After three weeks here I've totally forgotten most of my grievances with the facilities. Lecture is lecture whether your auditorium was built in 1950 or 2015, studying in a library carrel blocks out plenty of light already so who cares how many windows there are, and who has time to really use the gym that much? All the basics are covered, including a student lounge with three yes three microwaves. Quite a spending spree.

Thanks for your insight!

Hey all! II yesterday! Non-trad, IS! LizzyM 73.6 Complete 8/22

I had a question though. I noticed a minor mistake on my secondary where I didn't note that my physics courses had a lab component, which is part of their requirement. Do you think it's worth contacting the school about this because I meet the standard for eligibility? I just don't want the improper labeling to become an issue should I be evaluated for being accepted. Any help here would be great!

Do they not have access to your primary? I felt that many of these secondaries are redundant...

Yeah they do, but I just didn't properly label my PHYS courses as having a lab. Like I said, is this a big deal? Pitt is far and away my top choice and I don't want anything to get in the way.

No harm in emailing admissions now, but as far as I know they'll be going off the transcript you send in after acceptance to verify that you meet matriculation criteria.

Complete by 8/10, international, still did not hear anything back yet. Should I assume that I am already being rejected or should I still keep my hope up?

It's still super early, plenty of time left to get an II

I hear Pitt's interview cycle ends early. Around December or so? I feel myself getting nervous although I knew from the start I probably wouldn't get any interest.

I got an email about the PSTP. Is this something that we can apply for now or do we wait until after our interview?

+1, there is an optional session on interview day about this program. I think you can apply at any time, but it might be helpful to go to this information session first
