2016-2017 University of Vermont Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Sorry, one more question. Did you get the email this morning?
Yeah, this morning (might still be sending them today). But they do seem a bit slower this year, and I wouldn't be surprised if the October people heard back early december with a few November folks.

Congrats to all of you on your acceptances.
Great job!

Well looks like I missed out on another batch of decisions. Not looking too good for me

Well, here's to wishing you the best for next week. :xf:Yeah, this whole process has been nothing short of a whirlwind of randomness and anxiety for all of us. I'm still not sure how UVM decides to look at one batch of people over another, whether it be the pooling process to the post-interview decision round. With 7 II, I'd say you're a very competitive applicant overall, and I am confident you will get into a fantastic school at the end of this cycle.

As for the rest of us waiting, have a good thanksgiving. Get those grubbin' pants on. :hungry:

Both pools are the same temperature... Depending on how tall you are, the big pool takes a little more stamina to be able to stay afloat
I would think the kiddie pool would be a few degrees warmer... same reason I dont swim in most public swimming pools

Does anyone have recommendations for where to stay? Praying for no winter blizzards. Good luck to everyone waiting!

Burlington Hostel is cheap and a walkable distance from the school.

I go to Days inn for 70-80 bucks/night. Had to take taxi to the hotel and to the school.

But you can also check out Airbnb. There was a motel there available for 30-40 bucks not that long ago.

If I submitted early September, and if I am still not in "the pool", does that mean that I am not desired?

I submitted early October (I'm an idiot) and just had the kiddie pool status change. That said, I really wouldn't read too much into it. Some people get interviews having never been in "the pool."

For what it's worth, I submitted end of august/early september (can't remember which) and JUST got put in the pool today. Don't assume you won't hear back yet.

When they say "please respond to us within two weeks that you would like to accept or decline..." do we have to do an e-mail as well as the deposit?

That's a good question. I've been wondering about this.

My impression is that they need to receive the check AND be notified in writing that you will accept the offer within the 2 weeks (it would be easier if we can pay online...).

Maybe current students can pitch in...

And on top of that the whole "accept or decline" thing is making me a little antsy. Common SDN sense tells me that I can just say "I accept" and then withdraw later without repercussions.

You can, so just accept lol. I know you're a west coaster, so might be waiting on a school or two still. I get it.

You can try ask for an extension on the deadline if getting the check over there on time is an issue by the way. It's a hundred bucks, but sometimes living circumstances can be stringent, so I think they can understand...

Does anyone know how many October interview dates there were? So far 10/15 and 10/19. Interviewed early November so wondering if my group would be reviewed soon.
They'll probably be done by New Years if we assume a linear rate. However, even that is a bit presumptuous

Stupid question I'm hoping someone can answer: I'm filling out the pre-interview online survey. There is a section that asks for preferred pronoun. Do they means he/she or Ms/Mr?

Thank you!

Haven't taken the survey, but I'm pretty confident preferred pronoun refers to preferred gender pronouns (she/her/hers, he/him/his, they/them/theirs, etc.).

pronouns = he/she/them/xirs etc. prefix = Mr/ms/ etc

Thank you freak7! Any tips/advice?
Be friendly and always respectful. Please and thank you's. Also keep yourself open-minded to alternative points of view.

Oh and get there early if you can so you have enough time for breakfast because the food is awesome.

Just curious, what food did they serve?

OH MAN it was so good.

For breakfast there was quiche, sausage/veggie sausage, fruit, yogurt (maybe, can't remember), a couple different types of breakfast pastries, coffee, water, juice. Pretty good stuff.

They encouraged everyone to take some packaged snacks/protein bars for gamefuel for the day IIRC.

Lunch was Korean BBQ street taco bar. Lots of extras and sauces too. Everything was just so delicious.

They'll tell you the MMI relaxed and conversational. They mean it.
They'll tell you the group activity is fun. They mean it.
Enjoy your interview day and good luck!!
Yeah, relaxed, fun, and friendly. Absolutely loved the whole experience.

That sounds amazing! Miles better than the standard croissant and sandwiches. Though any free food is still the best food.

Yeah no kidding. They legitimately care for their interviewees and take all the feedback you give them to heart to make it better for the next round of interviewees.

Hey all, first year medical student here at UVM. I'm excited to see some of you at interview day on Saturday! Let me know if you have any questions.
