2016-2017 University of Washington Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Could someone please explain the "stat" 70, 77, etc. What does that mean and how does the committee compute it?
Adcoms don't actually use LizzyM scores. It's used on SDN (made by LizzyM). It's your GPA x10 + your MCAT (old score only, so you'll need to convert if you have the 2015 one). For example, (3.5 x 10) + 30MCAT = 65

SUC'd Spokane 🙁 Very disappointed.

"Since you are being considered for the Spokane cohort, you will receive another status update after the January Spokane interviews. A final decision about your application will be available no later than the end of March 2017"

Does this mean that all of the Spokane applicants that received the SUC email will possibly be compared to the Seattle applicants who have received a SUC, especially those who are willing to go to the Spokane campus? Just wondering

Submitted primary in June, just realized my secondary wasn't completely submitted lol do you think i have a chance at II if verified in december?
Email them, explaining what has happened. That sucks...

I remember reading somewhere that those who chose Spokane are not compared against the Seattle interviewees, it's one reason I picked Spokane ...

Ahhhh good luck. I forget how often they meet in Seattle but fingers crossed....

Thanks so much! Just delved through the old thread and last year there was an excom meeting next week. So looks like us mid-late November Seattle people could hear something then, crossing my fingers.

Hey, it's BABSstudent. Your friendly (I hope), neighborhood fourth year. I'll be answering any questions you have about the application process, the school or my experiences throughout medical school. Feel free to tag me by typing @BABSstudent and I should get a notification on my phone. I'll also periodically check in to answer any questions not specifically addressed to me.

Hey BABS, I have a few questions for you, if you have the time.
I read that UW will send me a financial aid package, should I wait t fill out my FAFSA until then?
When will I know my site placement (interviewed in Seattle), and when should I start worrying about housing? Do most students live off campus?
Is there usually an official class Facebook page, or do students make it?

Thank you!

Fill out the FAFSA when it opens.

Site placements come out in like mid May. Don't get housing before this point because you don't know if you will be in Seattle or Spokane. Even though I say this, every year tons of people ignore the advice and then are shocked when they have to break a lease. School starts in late August, so if you are in Seattle I would start to look around late July to early August. The latest I have heard a place holding the lease for you is 2 weeks. So pushing it as late as possible will save some serious cash.

The students make their own Facebook page and then usually post the link here. Word of mouth will normally fill the group. Each year will generally have multiple Facebook pages, one for the overall class and then every site gets their own page (including the Seattle branch) for organizing local events/communication.

Compared to other schools' interviews I feel UW is trying to fit way too much into the 30 mins. Have the feeling that other schools got a much better idea of who I am as a person in the time they allotted. Anybody else feel the same? Really liked my interviewers though, not their fault at all.

Yeah I said the same thing a while ago in this thread

I interviewed as an Idaho applicant last year. And last year, I received an invite to interview in October. This year, I haven't received any correspondence from them regarding a II, except confirmation of my secondary application. Has anyone else had a similar experience? What's with the delay?

How does Idaho notify you for an interview last year and how long does it take? I submitted my secondary on November 11th and still no word. I don't have a phone right now so I am hoping it is by email or mail.

They notified me by email last year in 7 weeks. But this year, I haven't heard anything in almost 4 months.

I'm from Idaho. I just check my email, and I got my interview invite from UWSOM on December 28th last year. That being said, I wasn't complete until November 30th, but it does mean that they send out interview invites that late.

It sounds like you aren't the only one that's had a slow response. I would venture to guess that they are focusing on Washington students right now since they are actively interviewing and accepting them. Maybe they are waiting to look closely at WWAMI applicants since none of them even interview until January or February.

I'm in the same boat. I got my secondary confirmation email 8/10 and haven't heard anything from them since then.

Not applying this cycle, but does anyone know the WWAMI residency requirements? My family lives in Wyoming but I'm a Texas Resident at a Texas university, so I'm planning on moving home with my family after school. Does anyone know how long I have to physically live in a WWAMI state to apply as a resident? It only takes one month to get a Wyoming ID and plates. Thanks!

Going by what's happened so far, tomorrow could be an excom day, will calls going out tomorrow/thursday, and SUC's this coming Tuesday. If they are scheduled the same day of the week (which the first two appeared to have been).

I'll be expecting an email Tuesday haha

Same. I received my II a couple months ago. I am a reapplicant and last year received my interview date toward the end of December.
