2016-2017 University of Washington Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Does applying to the TRUST program increase odds of being accepted? I'm an Idaho applicant interested in practicing primary care in a rural area where I can own livestock. Is TRUST a no brainier for me? What if I decide to go into neurology or emergency medicine? Would TRUST affect me in a negative way? Thanks!

Got a call from a 206 number again...

Corporate needed my I-9
I feel you! In the last week I got a call from University of WA asking me to complete a survey I signed up for for the School of Public Health. Then just Friday I got a call from University of WA....School of Dentistry.... reminding me to come in and get my annual check-up. The universe is bullying me I'm sure of it.

My heart is definitely leaping out of my chest whenever I get a call from an unknown 206 number. Got one last week that turned out to be the Pima Institute following up from when I inquired about their programs a few years ago (I was considering them to gain clinical experience during gap years). The woman on the phone said, "I just wanted to follow up and see if you were still interested in pursuing medical career." :wideyed: The universe has a sense of humor...

That. Is. Cruel.

Have any WA TRUST applicants heard back about an interview? I've been complete since the end of September but haven't heard any news at all.

I know that the interviews for the WA TRUST program aren't until February but does that mean that we won't hear about an interview until 3-4 weeks before then? Or will we hear sooner and then get the details about the interview 3-4 weeks before the actual interview?

Hey, so I applied to the TRUST program too and have already heard back. But my application was also complete in July, so maybe yours is still in queue to be processed. I wouldn't worry too much; it's only been 2 months for you.

They sent me an II email a few months ago but I haven't gotten a scheduling calendar yet. I suspect they'll send out dates something in January.

Just interviewed here this past Thursday(11/17) as OOR applicant. I must say, I absolutely loved this school and the city of Seattle. UWash is at the top for me and it would be a dream to go here. I wonder when we will hear back...Good luck to all 🙂

How come people who interviewed after me are getting acceptances. Shouldn't I at least be getting a SUC or rejection letter? Why silence? I'm guessing my EXCOM didn't attend the meeting.

I thought we still get at least a SUC even if they don't attend ?

I've thought so too, but then here I am...

It seems like the pattern goes something like this: EXCOM meeting meets, acceptances go out by phone call in the few days after the meeting, and SUCs/rejection/waitlists go out after the acceptances in one large batch. This is mostly speculation, but take a look back at this thread to get a sense of this. My understanding is that if your EXCOM member wasn't at the meeting, you will still get an SUC email, not just total silence. I also have heard that if you get an SUC, it means the committee hasn't even discussed your file yet. Once they discuss it, you will get either accepted, rejected, or waitlisted. So an SUC just means your file hasn't even been discussed. This can happen for a number of reasons... your EXCOM member isn't at the meeting, they're waiting to review your application next to other more similar applications, etc. I do not know any of this as fact - my source of information is last year's SDN thread.

Thanks or the input Fran, but I think you've got at least one thing wrong. The waitlist isn't formed until March. You either get accepted, rejected, or remain SUC letter until march. You won't be waitlisted until March, when they fill up the remaining 50% of the seats (from those who received a SUC letter and remained under consideration without being rejected during subsequent meetings) and rank the waitlist. Cheers.

But I think you're right about the calls first, emails later pattern. Hope I don't get rejected. Fingers crossed, best of hope for you all.

Sad to report that I interviewed last week and was rejected today. Good luck to everyone else still in the running!

SUC just now.

Sucks to SUC...

Is SUC continuing consideration?

Yes, in years past they sent a "Still Under Consideration" email that was abbreviated to SUC. Now, people still say "SUC" even though the actual emails from UW say "Continuing Consideration." They're the same.

So it looks like the meetings are most likely on a Wed. (Oct 26th then about Nov 16th) then notification of SUC go out on the following Monday or Tuesday, and acceptances go out the thurs/fri right after the meeting? It was pretty much exactly 3 weeks between first acceptances and second. And exactly the same for SUC

Man, they're being conservative.

Interviewed in Spokane today. I really like the Gonzaga campus. A shame we didn't actually get to see the building most the classes are in. The one student I got a chance to speak with at lunch was very honest about the program. I am very impressed with the school and would love a chance to go here *crosses fingers, toes, eyes*

I would love to end up in Spokane. I picked either for my location preference and I'm wondering if that's why I haven't heard anything yet.

Hi. I'm a current UW Idaho student and I wanted to give my input. Please don't apply for TRUST just because you want to live in a rural area. I don't think it increases your odds of being accepted and it CAN hurt you if you aren't qualified to do TRUST. I know a student who thought, 'I'll apply TRUST. Maybe it will improve my chances. It certainly can't hurt.' and he definitely regrets it. He did not have a solid background or experiences in rural areas (clinical work, volunteering, etc.), and they called him out on it in the interview. They asked why he wanted to specifically be a TRUST student, and "I want to live in rural WWAMI" is NOT enough of a reason. They asked what he knew about rural healthcare and what experiences made him qualified to be a TRUST student and he had no good answer. I honestly think he might have been accepted if he hadn't applied TRUST. He asked for feedback on why he was rejected and they basically told him that was a major reason why. Good news though. He applied again (not TRUST) and was accepted a year later.

Now, If you grew up in a rural community, went to school in a rural community, and have worked and volunteered in rural health (and can reflect on those experiences), then it's a no brainer. Do it.

You don't have to be a TRUST student to learn about rural health and be prepared to live and work in a rural area. We have the opportunity to get a lot of that in our education if we want it.

Is it true "if your EXCOM member wasn't at the meeting, you will still get an SUC email, not just total silence. I also have heard that if you get an SUC, it means the committee hasn't even discussed your file yet"?

"The Admissions Committee has reviewed your application and interview results, and a decision has not been made about your application at this time."
-SUC email.

So they've discussed it probably, just are unready to move on it.

Does anyone know when the EXCOM meeting is for Spokane interviews/ when we hear back?

Spokane fam - I hope today is the day[/QUOTE

Ooooh that would be great! For you guys and possibly for all of us Seattle interviewers who picked either for our location and have heard nothing back.[/QUOTE

That is great for you guys and hopefully for all of us that selected either for our location preference that haven't heard back.
