They promise a chunk of the class to other states. Then the remaining spots are highly competitive, even among what I would consider elite candidates because the school is rated so well. I haven't read the laws in Washington but based on the people who get in from WWAMI states, their in state percentage is much lower than other states, such as Texas which has a 90% minimum from in state. As I posted earlier in the thread, I was hoping to at least get an interview even if I knew UW was one of my reach schools.
Only kinda true, since WWAMI stay at their home institution - UW wouldn't have room for any more people anyway
"WWAMI Foundations Phase Students from Alaska, Montana, and Idaho spend the first 18 months of medical school at state universities in their home states: University of Alaska (Anchorage), Montana State University, and University of Idaho. Wyoming students will spend the first year at the University of Wyoming and spend the next six months in Seattle, at least until 2017. Washington students in Spokane will spend the first 18 months on the Riverpoint campus."
