I received my II on 8/16 and have yet to receive a scheduling email.

They could be rejected because they applied way too late (not because of OOR) and then waste one of their 3 attempts at UWSOM

Can I PM you later today about an ethical scenario question I had received during an interview? And if the way I had answered it would have been acceptable by UW's standards?

My app was verified before apps were sent out, so I'm pretty sure that's not the case. Either way, I'm hoping to not have to reapply at all.

So today was the first day, and I have to say I was very impressed with how everything went. Everyone was very friendly, helpful, and wanting to engage. The office of admission staff has been one of the most pleasant to work with, and really worked to make sure everyone was comfortable and had all their questions and concerns answered. The interviews were split up throughout the day, and then in the middle there was some presentations, a tour with medical students, a chat with some staff, then lunch with medical students, and if time allowed we were able to sit in on a class with current students. The interviewers seemed to genuinely want to know more about you, and had clearly spent the time to get to know your application. All the other applicants were personable, and everyone seemed comfortable and interested in each others stories. Such a good vibe, and the new changes to the curriculum seem to be a clear change for the better. The student tour guides as well as the students at lunch left me personally with little doubt about how much the school cares about it's students, and why UW is one of my top choices (among many other reasons). The interview itself flies by, you wouldn't believe how short 30 minutes feels. All and all, just hope they like me half as much as I like them.
 
Hey everyone!

Verifying that residency form was a nightmare. Took about 5 weeks. My whole application was finally completed about two days ago. For in state applicants, how much time passed from when your residency verified to an interview invite?
 
Ugh still no scheduling email for Spokane campus (non trust).

They typically do every other year.....if the short drive to Missoula from Bozeman seems excessive, then I'd have to say you're not likely to be from rural MT.

Similar question - is there any way to explain this before a decision is made on your application? Or, if you're OOS/non-WWAMI, are you pretty much just out of luck? My family is from WA and most live there, and my mom and grandparents are just about for sure moving there once she retires in a few years. I've gone there for 1-2 months every year since I was born aside from one year. Serious dream school, but the prospects of acceptance are rather bleak.
 
So here's my thought, and I might be totally wrong, but I would say it's worth it to at least contact admissions and ask the question. My thought is this; they have an academic screen - but - if you are screened out, you can call and ask for your app to be reviewed. They normally have this happen with someone doing GPA repair or post-bac/master/etc work that doesn't get factored into their screen. That would indicate they really care about their process, and if you are willing to make an effort than they will take the time. As long as you approach it the right way, I don't think there is any reason why you couldn't at least ask the question. I don't think being proactive and seeking information is going to hurt you, it's not like you are calling to ask a question that is already answered somewhere on the website (I'm assuming - you should check first just in case, there is a TON of info and answers to FAQ's).

Question from an IS kid applying next year about the mission statement. It looks like the statement is broken up into two parts, one being the part about primary care and underserved populations and the second being the bit about academic medicine and 'advancing knowledge and assuming leadership in the biomedical sciences and academic medicine'. My stats are fine (LM 70-80, top UG) and my app will be primarily focused on the research/academic medicine angle but I'll be pretty scant on the working with URPs side of things, which seems to be the most important part of the whole application to many people here. Does that leave me completely screwed?
 
Do you have an interest in either of those things - primary care/undersevered? If yes, have you done anything to show it? While yes that is a big focus for them, it's not everything. They still match out plenty of subspecialists etc. Look at the prompts for the app and see if you feel you can answer them in a passionate and insightful way. Don't think of this process as a checklist, think of it as would you be a good match with the school and it's values. Can you speak to why you want to go there if not because of primary care then you should be fine.

Per the info on SDN, the adcom will know if you are really interested in URPs or primary care or if you are just trying to appear that way for the sake of admission to UW. So I guess the advice is be yourself.

If you think that was a nightmare, consider getting the interview scheduling a scarier nightmare. It took about 4 weeks for my residency verification to turn into an interview invite--which I received last month. I'm still waiting on the scheduling email though and I really hope it's soon...

I suppose the wait never ends. It's great yours turned into an interview though. Cheers to impatience and hopefully getting into one of the best med schools.
 
Got my interview invite more than a month ago, but finally got the e-mail to schedule it today! There seemed to be only one date offered for OOR students, so I took that. Less than a month away, ah!

Rejected IS pre-interview today, absolutely devastated. Thought I would at least get a shot at an interview with a high 60s LizzyM and thousands of hours of clinical experience. Pretty much feels like I've wasted the last 4 years of working towards a shot at this school. Geared my app towards them but I guess it's not meant to be.

My cycle ends much earlier than expected. Best of luck to everyone else.

Dang dude, that is super rough. The selection process there is such a wild one. Go in January for a feedback session and follow all their advice. It has worked for me so far, hopefully it will help you too.
 
Second that, they were so hopeful with advice, and I went from no interviews last cycle to 4 so far this cycle (and my app didn't really change a whole lot - mostly just how I approached some things). Out of all of the admissions offices I've worked with, I'd have to give them a 10/10 and rank them as one, if the not the, most helpful. And I know how hard that is, I went through it last year and was devastated. Just keep your head up, and keeping working to move forward. This is not all in vain, and if you keep at it, it will pay off in the end. I allowed myself to feel bad for a while (sometimes those feelings and letting yourself feel them is a good thing), then figured out what I could do to keep moving forward. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions, or even just want to chat. (I extend that offer to anyone, I know how hard this process can be - and want to do my part to make SDN less awful where I can haha)
 
Did anyone else get an email from [email protected] that is just a bunch of Chinese characters and random emojis?! LOL.

I'm wondering if it's a real email and my email is just glitching on my phone (a very real possibility - but the emojis threw me off)

The subject line was Interview Invitation which I already have but I hope it's not the scheduling email. Anyone else?

Jk checked my portal it was the scheduling email

Not sure how multiple very strange emojis ended up in my phone's glitchy version of it but that was truly an exceptional glitch
 
Did they offer you more than one date? Mine only had one available.

I'm doing Spokane this year so they only have 2 November dates total! But I remember last year in Seattle there weren't many more than that. From talking to folks at UW sounds like the limiting factor is working out the interviewers schedules and finding people to conduct interviews on certain days
 
How long did it take to receive an interview invite? I know the email says 4-6 weeks, but was it actually shorter/longer?
 
I got this too, I'm a non-resident.
 
Took from completion on 7-19 to II on 9-14 for me - which being that I submitted super early, most likely is shorter than further into the cycle
