2016-2017 University of Washington Application Thread

Hi! I'm wondering if they screen OOR applicants before sending the request for a statement about why we fit their mission? Or do they send it to all applicants

I got Verified by AMCAS on July 20th. I received an email the next day from UWSOM saying they completed a "preliminary review" of my application and then asked me to send the mission statement essay.

Hi! I will not be applying this cycle but for the next one as an OOR applicant. Can someone who got a secondary post their stats? Or does anyone know what the stats are like for accepted OOR? I cannot find anything online!

So I know many of you guys or gals express interest in the overall stats of admission, so I thought I would share with you what I have obtained from USNWR regarding the University of Washington.

Total Applicants: 8090
Total Interviewed: 825
Accepted: 291
Enrolled: 245

IS Applicants
Applied: 1321
Interviewed: 715
Accepted: 255
Enrolled: 228

OOS Applicants
Applied: 6769
Interviewed: 110
Accepted: 36
Enrolled: 17

Minority Applicants
Applied: 3294
Interviewed: 236
Accepted: 75
Enrolled: 59

Student Body:
Total Enrollment: 959
In-State Students: 92.3%
Minority Students: 22%
URM Minority Students: 8.9%
Non-Traditional Students: 85%

Hope this answers MANY of the questions you guys have in regard to admissions info. Cheers!

^ 85% non-trad seems pretty substantial - does anyone know off the top of their head the average across all med schools?

Hey all, can any OOR folks give me their timeline on the response to their missions statement essay? I'm still waiting on a secondary/rejection and it's been a little while.

I have also received an II and am OOR. My stats are nothing special, but I applied to this school because of its mission and its fit with my past experiences and my career goals. In my opinion, its all about fit and stats are totally secondary provided you are above a certain minimum. Hope this helps and good luck!

If you still have at least a year to go and this school is your top choice, consider moving to Washington state. If moving to Washington is not possible, you must find a way to prove that you are committed to the underserved populations. As an OOR, my stats are low ( lizzy 65-70) but I work with underserved population (the disabled, the incarcerated, the immigrants and the homeless) to address financial, language and cultural barriers. Hope this helps!

Thank you so much! I just stared my third year of college so I can't really move to Washington state but I will definitely try to work with undeserved populations. This was really helpful. Thanks again!

Still haven't got my residency verification yet. They confirmed the document arrived 8/15/2016. Frustrating.

Are all IS applicants required to verify residence? I'm marked complete and have not been asked to verify anything....

Yes you have to verify it. They should have sent you any email telling you to do it within a couple weeks of received secondary

Has anyone gotten an email yet with the date of their interview?

^ nope! Although I would bet they will arrive soon, as interviews start around or on the 1st of October

First days for interviews are normally in early October.

@BABSstudent Can I ask you some questions about UW AFERM mock interview ? Is it an in-person mock interview only? Do they have any online resources ?

Honestly, I'm not sure if they only do in person interviews. I never organized them but would occasionally do the interviews (all the ones I did were in-person). And I didn't seek them out prior to interviewing but that's because I went to WSU and didn't know about them.

At University of Montana there is a MCAT Prep Summit on Oct 29th. Agenda includes talk by MT WWAMI dean, Nuts and Bolts of MCAT, Myths about WWAMI and TRUST, the application and interview process.

If only Montana State had this.

Hoping mine comes soon (their emails seem to take forever to pass through my spam filter which is ironic considering i used my uw.edu email....)

i'm anxiously waiting to get my interview calendar too. did you guys get to choose your dates? are they within a 1 month period? someone told me that UW gives about 3-4 weeks notice for interviews, so i wonder if those who have late interview date gets their interview calendar later. good luck to everyone, though!

Rejected pre-secondary. OOR. I have to say that stung a bit. 🙁

Still no residency verification. Seriously getting my app delayed a month because of this... So lame!

II just about 45 minutes ago. OOS. Secondary submitted 8/31. Lizzy 71. I am shocked. Wow

It has been 5 weeks since I got confirmation that the residency verification office received my paperwork but I am STILL not complete... Should I email them? Their email said that it can take up to 6 weeks, but they also note that med students take 2-4 weeks....

Any help? 🙁

Is anyone getting the feeling that they are sending out batches of OOS II's, and different batches of IS II's? I feel like I keep seeing lots of OOS IIs.

If I was a gambling man, I'd say they're trying to filter through the OOR's first since they are probably harder to schedule
